Gorgers?

original thread ↗

So i want to experiment with Gorgers. What are the best ways of running and using them? How many of them should i take?
Samurai Ogres of Nippon

I've only taken them once.  It was my most recent game vs wood elves.  They were fantastic.

I took 3 gorgers (since I wasn't taking Skrag).  2 came in on turn 2, and the other came in on turn 3.  2 of them were a major menace to several groups of archers, and the third learned first hand that a treeman wizard has tree whack.

I was quite impressed with them.  I'll be trying them again in the future.

Best advice I have is to make sure you bring them in to threaten the flanks and rears of squishier units.  Gorgers are tough, but the lack of a save means that poison and mass fire will end them.
One gorger tends to show up late and attract shooting that has run out of better targets, thus even if he does make it into an enemy unit, he's lost a few wounds.

I would recommend if you're going to commit to gorgers, really commit. Take three as LawGnome said and hopefully have them show up en masse and allow them all to hit the enemies lines as a coordinated hit.

Gorgers have no defense beyond tough 5 and the fact that they should be hitting flanks/sides to reduce their incoming hits, so be very careful on their deployment.
Skrag + 10 Gorgers... Done!
I am thinking of taking three Gorgers with me when I play at the club. If my opponent is aggressive, they get the double Iron Blaster. If they are friendly they I leave one Iron Blaster in the box, and take out the Gorgers instead. I am considering getting these "Flesh Reapers" to serve as my Gorgers:

I generally take 2 Gorgers but 3 is also viable.

They have a range of uses
1. Firstly they can force your opponent to react to them. The opponent may deploy differently than usual to deal with the Gorgers. They may also babysit their Warmachines or have a unit cover the rear of their lines.

2. They are quite good at tieing up and killing War-machines like Elvish Boltthrowers.

3. In Tournies where there is comp, 2 of them can replace an Ironblaster.

4. I have charged the rear of units of archers and 2 Gorgers have beaten quite large blocks.
