Hunting Beast

original thread ↗

Under the rules for the stonehorn under the rules for hunting beast it says that ANY shooting attack will with the stone horn on a 1-4 and the hunter on a 5+ does that mean that the hunter can avoid cannonballs.
I still find it stupid that a cannon ball can change direction mid flight and hit 2 targets
Ogres, cause whats better than livin in the snow and drinking. All praise the the Great Maw. praise be to Skrag
Yes. the cannonball will hit either the stonehorn or the hunter
Yes. the cannonball will hit either the stonehorn or the hunter

This is incorrect.

Page 105 under "Templates" of the small rulebook. Both character and mount are hit as the cannonball counts as a template weapon for these purposes. It says

"If you use a weapon or spell that uses a template against a monster mount, both the riders and the mount are automatically hit if the monster's base is touched by the template (note that this includes bouncing cannonballs!)"

Stone Throwers have a funny rules which follow after that quote where only the Rider or Mount can be hit by the S9 whilst the other takes the S3 hit however Cannonballs hit BOTH the rider and mount in the event a Stonehorn w. Hunter is shot by a cannon.

Oops. yep that is correct i apologize for my mistake, perhaps I should have looked at my rulebook before I posted.
Bit of thread necromancy here.. I'm failing to see the point of this special rule

Scenario 1 with an elf on dragon without hunting beast rule:

40 arrows are shot, 20 hit, randomise: 1-4 on dragon, 5-6 on lord.
cannonball hits both.

Scenario 2, hunter on stonehorn with hunting beast rule:

40 arrows are shot, 20 hit, randomise 1-4 on stonehorn, 5-6 on hunter
cannonball hits both.

outcome is the same. I feel something hasn't been communicated accurately for this rule.
Here is why the rule exists.

Its because the model also has the Beast Rider rule. Its slightly redundant, but if they hadn't put the Hunting Beast rule in, then a Hunter would never get hit while riding a Stonehorn. You'd have to kill the Stonehorn first.
Current win streak: 10
