HOLY S**T!
Your kidding me right? These guys are absolutely amazing! Seriously, on the first couple of guys here did you model the bellies with Greenstuff and then spray the (like plastic) grey? They just look seamless as if they were "out the box" GW models.
Amazing work mate, can't wait to see paint on these guys; I will definitely be watching this Gnoblog, mate. Take a cheeky little Gnoblar from me for these guys!

Thank you for the kind words but all credit goes to 2blackdragons
The plan is to play a big campaign versus my main opponents Dark Elves Khaine cult. The whole nine yards, rich background, custom terrain, custom scenarios and a few campaign special characters
In short the war is going to be the Ogres are going to be defending the isles of Senkaku off the coast of Nippon.
One special character i was thinking was:
Deathmaster on flying carpet?
Thoughts? Ideas of your own?

I play Hell Dorado and have never considered using this guy as a Death caster. I'll warn you though, he's a fair bit smaller than the average GW Ogre. He's still fairly big but not quite as large as I'd envision a Slaughtermaster to be.

What we think?
Spin my nipple-nuts and send me to Alaska; these are some amazing models and the army itself looks absolutely amazing. I do have one tiny question though;
You commissioned someone to make these models? I don't know how they go about making them, but as there are two identical Ironblasters I am assuming there is some form of reproduction or mould involved yes? If this is the case, then how do the company who make these models not get into trouble for copyright when it comes to things like the original sculpts that presumable GW own?
I ask because it is quite clear that the "ogre" end of the Ironblaster Cannon (for example) is quite clearly the original sculpt a la GW and the other end is the companies sculpt. As they have re-produced this, does this not contravene some form of copyright law?
If not, then I may consider doing some mass-production of some converted OK models myself. I love converting stuff and would happily mould and cast them for others.
Just so we are clear; I love these models and I am in no-way making any kind of judgement about teir work relating to GW, it makes no odds to me at all.

Not a single piece is a cast of an original GW model! Each and every one is a single unique conversion only using original GW parts and sculpted additional parts There is absolutely no reproduction of official GW material which clear to see

Dont Worry it is on its way, along with some other cool stuff
This leads on quite nicely, as my Tyrant is obviously the best Samurai in Nippon ;-) I need a build for him that resolves around Fencer's blade. I have been thinking Glittering Scales and Mawseeker. Lots of being hit and wounded on 6's. Thoughts?

As well as an army i want themed terrain for them. A lot of tournaments i attend require you to bring one piece of themed terrain. A google search followed by trawling through all sorts of peoples blogs i have found something that might be suitable and would appreciate peoples thoughts on using the following as a watchtower:
I think that would be aesthetically appropriate, though I don't think it will fit size wise. If that is a human in front of the building it doesn't look like an ogre would fit inside? Unless the intent is for Gnoblars to staff it?
The army looks breathtaking btw. Utterly blown away.

Well its designed for 28mm/30mm gaming. My army is to be situated in Nippon so it can just be Nipponese scenery. But you are right, i think maybe some custom terrain is in order too then

Noisy Assassin25 Nov 2014
It looks pretty good, but it is scaled for humans rather than ogres. Also seems rather expensive for the materials it is made from (only the doors are resin, the rest is various stuff that is easily and cheaply acquired)
Gutlord Inquisitor25 Nov 2014
I have bought and made that building, along with the arch and the bridge. It's plasticard and very expensive for plasticard. But it is very nicely made and pretty cool all the same. I can post pictures next to an ogre if desired.
Your army is amazing! I did a similar theme but clearly half-assed it in comparison. This stuff is just superb. What did you use for the mournfang? How about the ironblaster dragon head? How much is sculpted?

I am getting the impression that the scale is an issue for a majority of people. Its what happens when you go all out for an army, half measures for terrain is to acceptable

Here's my display and the building, bridge and torii are all from the above manufacturer and all made out of the plasticard.
Note that my samurai in front of the building are massive compared with a normal ogre, built on the scale of the GW minotaurs. I'll try and get you a shot with the building and a normal sized ogre.

Well looking at your army so far I would probably like to see a VERY unique mask on him with some super unigue weapon of some kind. The main thing with this opportunity is to get a Dynamic pose to really make him stand out from the our standard ogre body build.
So I would first establish what pose you want him doing. Also do you want him elevated at all? Any detial on his base, Blossum tree perhaps? Japanesse are fond of those.
Kind regards Zolas.

Thank you for weighing in Zolas. I to agree that the pose is everything so i have been trawling through google images and found the following, all of which feel would look awesome as a Tyrant
Any thoughts on any of the above?

Zolas30 Dec 2014
I would say either picture 1 or 3. Or a combo of both. Having a sword about to strike or striking is awesome. Plus you can show of the face with both poses. (reason I'm not fond of picture 4, your tyrants face should be on show! Or mask!)
Well that's my 2 pence to it. Hope this helps. Either way go with what your gut tells (and YES that was deliberate! we are OGRES after all!)

Thank you, i am glad i can be of some inspiration
Group photos will eventually follow but a display board is unfortunately in the distance, as i have big plans for this force so the size of the force weighs heavily on what i want from the display board. Do i want 2x2 for armies on parade style that can display just percentage of my army or do i want a display board that shows off my whole army or do i just want a gaming table that can be used to display my army with the terrain set up correctly. A lot of questions, that i do not have answers for yet

Here we are, the last of the first batch
Ironguts (The symbol on the banner is Japanese for Discipline)
So what is next, well in the immediate future the reins need to be put on the ironblasters and then a few group shots. In a few weeks i hope to post up pics of the next batch, Bruiser/Tyrant, Maneaters and GIANTS (note the s). At some point in the next few weeks too i imagine i should receive the Zsoulness sculpt for my tyrant (it looks great so far so go check out his log). I also want to add a BaneBeasts Terror of Fortriu to count as my Mountain Chimera Transformation and a Raging heroes Manticore. After that i had plans, that i have dropped hints too but a lot will depend on time and the arrival of 9th. This army will go ahead as planned until 9th edition is released then there maybe some tinkering involved. Have a good night everyone

This is bananas. These guys look amazing, both in sculpt and in paint! It'd be a good day being eaten by these beauties. Dunno if you want the comment, but the Ironguts are a bit monoposed. Since they have the same armour, they don't stand out as much. Maybe they should all have had back-banners? Not much to be done now, but there are also several large japanese weapons to be inspired from, thought that would add a lot to the workload.

No i do not want this comment ;-) In all seriousness i appreciate your comment, it gives me food for thought with moving this army forward. I will challenge the idea of them not standing out as much by asking Do Ironguts stand out significantly more than Ogres do? All your ideas are good but bit too much work for now, as for several large japanese weapons. You will be surprised how few of them that can easily be translated to fantasy and even fewer that can be translated onto a model and look like a great weapon. Even if anything an ogre uses fluff wise can be a great weapon

Nice to know I can give at least something to think about! I agree that normal Ironguts don't really stand out much, but I count that as a flaw with the GW sculpts. These sculpts are amazing, and I don't like the idea of someone not seeing who's who! Maybe a different colour scheme (more black laquered armour rather than all red?) could work. But they look great, and there isn't really a need to change them, it's just easy to be picky when it's someone else's amazing work! As for reasonable great weapons, you're probably right. Haven't looked too far into it, but finding good nipponese great weapons that aren't also a pain to get working does seem like a lot more work than giving them all giant blades. I've always had a slightly romantic view on modelling possibilities, and very little concern for time and effort There's definitely no doubt that these guys are wielding great weapons though.
And congrats on the army showcase! Your army deserves it.

This was/is my problem. The main reason why my Tau army is taking so long to really make any traction on. The colour scheme is inspired by WW2 German 3 colour camo with white wash for winter operations, then heavily weathered. Basically Ogres are generally dirty i have made clean and crisp. Tau usually crisp i have made down and dirty
And the models you've used in the kitbash, like the green beasts are amazing

It's a simple does not suite the aesthetics and style decision and would ruin the overall image

And i am going to try work around this by probably introducing Gut tattoos. Only difficulty so far is coming up with symbols that match the maneater and can be put on the gut
Edit: Maybe something like this on the Monkey King
On another note what do people think of the idea of an overtyrant of Nippon luxuriously riding into battle on top of a War mammoth. Roofing like my ironblasters and an overtyrant, sitting comfortably in his throne (I am thinking something like the Mongolian Khan from MarcoPolo)

I shall propose this idea to my regular opponent (Dark Elves) on two front; 1. Jimmy said so and he is a legend and 2. You always seem to hit me on 3+ so now we are even. I think it will be well received

Elves don't get sick, so no worries! The sculpts are simply fantastic. They are totally new level and I can only admire rich imagination and perfect execution.
It is really an inspiration even for those who have other armies. I would love to have access to alternative miniatures of such quality! The good thing is that inspirations often produce some novelty work by others so who knows, the most important thing is to keep creating new ideas!
Keep up the great work!

Whilst I love the giant MG, I can only pick a single fault and that's his weapon of choice. He should have a shinai not a blade in this instance but I'm the first one to stick my hand up and wonder how on earth that could be achieved modelling wise but if someone can imagine it then it can be done. Incredible work as always. I think your models are to me as my battle reports are to you - inspiration.

But why is that a fault? Why should the model not use Bokutō? Blades make more sense then running around on a battlefield with bamboo sticks, it is simple to do but has no logic in fantasy setting and seeing as there is a second one on its way why not mix and match
Jimmy05 Feb 2015
I think you are quick to take offence. Take a look at what I wrote, you've created a model in kendōgu so naturally I was expecting him to be armed with a shinai. That's all I'm saying. Also on a Giant model I disagree about the blades aspect as it's normally tree trunks they're armed with anyway so I figure any piece of wood would be suffice.

No worries there is absolutely no offence taken, I asked a question why it is a fault and why should he not have Bokutō and fight in nitō as it also belongs to a kendōgu.
Who is to say that this is not a kenjutsu warrior? if you prefer, this is fantasy not real life.
But why should a giant only be armed with a tree trunk, rather simplistic and bland do you not think? So many other possibilities out there or if you want paint the sword brown
Also as there is a second one following, which will be armed with a "shinai" in sword form why not offer as much variation as possible Exactly the rule of cool as the boss says!!

I am kinda excited to see Ogre Kingdoms merge with O&G in the next end times book (For full disclosure i dont like O&G). I think it opens up a lot of conversion possibilities and i want to run these ideas past you to see what you think
Head Honcho counts as goblin big boss
Gnoblar su chef count as Goblin shaman
Gnoblar Giant Kitsune (Fox) riders count as Goblin Wolf Riders
Gnoblar Giant Kitsune chariot count as Goblin wolf chariot
Gnoblar Kamikaze pilots count as Goblin doom diver
The Kamikaze is my favourite idea out of them all but i can see the Kitsune riders being the most beneficial to me in a game
My other thought was to change all Gnoblars to halflings to better keep OK seperate identity
Of course this is all only speculative at the moment but its one o the joys of the hobby
Thoughts?

BoredHighElf10 Feb 2015
Many a long moon ago (3rd edition) - there was a Nippon army listing in the main rulebook. They had a unit similar to Goblin Fantatics that ran out of the unit holding dynamite and simply exploded. I could imagine a Gnoblar being pushed out, holding a bunch of bombs working in a similar way.
Kitsune are a cool idea I'd probably have gone for a Tanuki, myself.

Its a great idea but as the person riding the Carpet will be a Sumo (Firebelly) those ideas maybe hard. It has been settled that a firebreathing sumo will be riding a wingless serpent

Random mutterings #2
So some of you may know that i have been toying with the idea of my Slaughtermaster descending into the Dark arts of Necromancy with the Lore of Undeath. I feel it would be a shame if the undead part of my army wasn't up to the standards of my regular one. So thanks to a few friends and Uprising an idea was formed to use the Lore of Undeath to represent the summoning of Yokai (Japanese Spirits).
So i started by compiling a list of things i want to definitely be summoning:
A necromancer Banshee 20 skeletons for cheap chaff 1 to 2 boxes of spirit hosts 1 box of hexwraiths 1 to 2 boxes of vargheists - Tengu Casket of Souls Terrorgheist
Necromancer - Onmyōdō Onmyoji are humans with yokai powers. Almost necromantic. Conversion: Unknown
Banshee - Yuki-onna or Kitsune Yuki-onna appear on snowy nights as a tall, beautiful woman with long black hair and blue lips. Kitsunes are Fox-spirits that takes appearance as a women Conversion: Unknown
Skeletons - Unknown
Spirit hosts - Far too many option to label here
Hexwraiths - mounted shinigami Shinigami are the race of extra-dimensional beings who survive by killing humans to extend their own lives. Conversion: Unknown
Vargheists - Tengu A wise bird-like demon. Conversion: VC Vargheist bodies with commissioned replacement armies (Feathers) and HE Rok head. In essence closer to the image of an Indian Garuda (What Tengu can trace their lineage from the mythical creature is found in stories in India long before it ever reached Japan)
Additional ideas Bone Giant - Gashadokuro literally "starving skeleton"
Samurai Ogres of Nippon
Minigiant09 Mar 2015
As for the Japanese spirit idea that has changed slightly. Currently i am trying to force mythology into things that just do not work. I think i am better off sticking with what has already been done: take [model], add [cultural reference]. So I'd just take [skeletons] and add [jingasa hat] for example. However some ideas did fit, Tengu as Vargheists etc so i will be taking a Hybrid approach. When Mythological creatures fit i do that, when they do not i take VC/TK models and add cultural reference. Skeletons in Samurai armour anyone?
But in other news it has finally arrived
I hope to write up a small review in the coming week or so, but my first impression is that it is a beautiful book

Batman Miniatures Rulebook Review
Earlier this year Knight Models released a hardback rulebook, where it had previously only been available via PDF. Having just started getting into the game, the PDF was full of holes, translated directly from Spanish and difficult to understand. So you can see I was a little worried about this at first.
There were two Rulebooks that were available, the standard Batman cover and the limited edition Joker cover. I went for the Joker cover simply because it was limited edition.
What makes a good rulebook?
I would say there are four components that make a good rulebook, the order in priority is personal taste Looks Glossy pages, Beautiful pictures and artwork Clearly written Accessible Completeness
Looks
Knight models have created a simple but stylish look to the book. A great use of full colour artwork blended with their characterful models and great scenery and set ups. Below demonstrates all these factors in one simple factor
Clearly Written
As I mentioned the PDF version was frustrating at times, for numerous reasons but I do believe Knight Models have corrected these flaws with this one. I believe this is down to the hiring of ex-White-Dwarf editor, Mark Latham. Mark Latham has helped create a joyous rulebook to read, with sentences that no longer make you scratch your head in confusion. The rules are written in a way that allows you to absorb them and move onto the next, so you build knowledge of the game up in layers; simple to learn, difficult to master.
Accessibility One of the most infuriating things about 95% of the big company rulebooks is that it always proves difficult in finding specific rules. Once you have learnt the basics, you want to be able to flick through the book and find the advanced rules
Knight models have included a well thought out and well-designed index. The index complements the individual rules perfectly and in many ways is a testament to how well written they are.
Completeness
This can be answered with one question: Is the BMG rulebook all you need to play the game?
Almost, the miniatures come along with their relevant rules, all that is still required are Counters; Damage, Action, Knocked Out, etc Objectives Sewer Lids and Streetlights
The book does provide a page of templates to be photographed; I cannot see why they would not provide another page for these. I understand it is nice to have some good looking markers but there are players who prefer spending money and time on models rather than terrain.
Overall
Apart from the whole counter thing, Knight Models have outdone themselves with this product and now the Rulebook finally matches the quality of the miniatures. It is clear that Knight Models have long term plans for more great releases and have kept the door open for a large scope in possibilities, more from the Batman Legendarium but hopefully more crossover with other DC stuff; they have already added the Watchmen (My gang). At the end of the day, this product captures the Batman universe near perfectly and I can only ever highly recommend.
