Slow Smoked Slaughter

original thread ↗

I've decided to combine two of my passions, cooking and Warhammer, and create a culinarily inclined Ogre force. Being a big carnivore myself, I felt it only right to bring my southern heritage into the fray and lead my horde with a BBQ Pitmaster (I will use parts from various models but he will play as a Slaughtermaster).
This is my first foray into OK and my first time painting with any sort of proper knowledge and technique so I readily welcome any tips and constructive criticism! In addition, if anyone has any ideas for culinary themed conversions please speak up!!
I have just started painting some of my models out of the battalion box and I will be posting my progress as I go.

Here's my first three Bulls. I think I'll call em "Dishwashers," because they do all the gritty work and don't get much credit. As always please give me any constructive criticism and advice you might have.

Although I haven't decided what to field, the units I have at my disposal, all appropriately given restaurant/BBQ based nicknames, are as follows;

12 Bulls (Dishwashers)
8 Leadbelchers (Busboys)
6 Ironguts (Line Cooks)
4 Mournfangs (Delivery Men)
2 Sabretusks (Servers)
1 Hunter (Meat-man)
1 Maneater Paymaster (Manager)
1 Tyrant (Host)
1 Ironblaster (Food Cart)
1 Stonehorn/Thundertusk *haven't decided please help!* (Food Truck)
1 Slaughtermast (BBQ Pitmaster)

Hi and welcome to the stronghold!

Well looks like a great start to me.  I really dig your mournfang fur with the contrasting fur colours.  But those purple trousers!  Wow just makes mt think of the Joker from Batman!

Keep it up.

Kind regards Zolas.

Thank you very much! I went with the dark purple because it's my favorite color.

Really liking the Paymaster Manny there. This army is really shaping up to be pretty sweet, keep up the good work.

Thank you!  I got all of my new (tyrant and fire belly were already built earlier) chars in the mail at once so I had a conversion extravaganza with the pieces. They aren't painted yet but I'll upload pics of the conversi one anyway.

Not as much painting going on in the last few days due to outside interruptions, but I did put together my second box of bulls and Leadbelchers as well as do some more conversion work for my characters. I decided to have two bases for my Slaughtermaster; he is attached to a regular size ogre base for table play and that base will then be able to attach to a larger base featuring Skrags meat pot and this will serve as a display base. Below is the Slaughtermaster on his game base.

Those fella's are looking great I love the swapping around of bodies and heads etc.  Your BSB particularly is lookinf great.  Really love the use of Skraggs body (and head) to get your BSB a much nicer dynamic from the standard ogre poses.

Great work.  Keep it up and look forward to seeing more.

Kind regards Zolas.

Thank you! Actually though the BSB only has Skrag's head, the body comes from the Slaughtermaster/Butcher kit. Skrag's body is being used my Slaughtermaster. In the attempt to make the models as unique as possible I tried to lose a few parts from the same kit on each model as I could unless it just really worked well. For instance, my hunter, whom I've converted even more, has his original body, head, and arms. The changes are to his weapons and additions of bits to himself and his base. I'll be posting a new pic of him later this evening.

My Slaughtermaster general is complete! I understand I'm not the best painter and I've only been at this for a little over a month but I'm still proud of him.

Dont put yourself down, having only painted for about a month. This is good work. Most importantly is that everything looks consistant and thats what turns models into armies. Keep going it will be worth it

Agreed.  Just keep at it.  You will only improve as you go.  I'm still improving as I go and it just makes you feel better.  :D

Due to the difficulties finding material suitable for culinarily inclined conversions I've decided to drop that theme for my army and am looking for new suggestions/ideas. The three constants throughout my army are the uses of rust, purple, and plenty of blood splatter, but other than that I'm stuck. Love to hear what y'all have to say! Also what should I do for my army's standard?!
Maul. Eat. Raze. Repeat.
Probably one of my favorite conversions! The Paymaster head and pistol from the Mournfang kit are two of my favorite pieces. The base is the pirate maneater but I felt a pirate captain deserved a bigger sword than the broken one they gave him, so I turned an Irongut sword into massive scimitar and replaced his anchor hand weapon with a pistol like every good pirate should have. He's got some hooks hangin from his belt and an extra dagger as well. Threw in an empire shield on his upper arm too cuz why not. With his stance I had plenty of room to add some character on the base too :) and yes I'm gonna drill the gun barrels

Loving Maneater 2 there. Nice base additions and dynamic pose; cant wait to see him finished.

Love the look of that maneater! Think I'll have to shell out for the Mournfang box soon if bits like that are to be had in it!
