Hello again Belcher,
Thank you for your response. I'll answer your questions, in the order they were asked:
(1) Most mages are unable to wear magic armour, unless they can wear mundane armour. To the best of my knowledge, this only leaves (a) Chaos Sorcerers via chaos armour, (b) High Elf Loremasters and (c) Butchers/Slaughtermasters via Iron Fists.

Q: As Butchers and Slaughtermasters can take an ironfist, does this
mean that they can also wear magical armour? (p32)
A: Yes.(2) The CoC makes the user and his unit stubborn, so any tests can be taken on an unmodified Ld8 or Ld9 (with SoD).
(3) Fair point regarding the command options for the ogres and IFs.
(4) LOG = Look-Out Gnoblar.
(5) GWs on the MEs will give them S7 attacks, which is impressive. However, with IBs (S10) and IGs (S6), you have some hard-hitting units already. I guess it all depends on what you want the MEs to do, e.g. character sniping.
(6) Stonehorns are great on a charge, hitting at S6 (as do IGs) and cause terror. However, they are cannon magnets and a S10 shot wounds a T6 model as easily as a T4 model (2+). Some players allow you to use one model to represent another - check with your opponent first, however!
I guess it all depends on the enemy you will be facing. The general census on the forum discourages tailoring your list; I believe in the opposite.
If you take cricket as an example, the world's best batsmen adjust their shots based on the delivery bowled. Equally, the best bowlers will change their delivery based upon the batsman's stance.
