Army help for a newbie

original thread ↗

I'm new to warhammer fantasy (actually all mini war games). I picked this army really based off models I liked and felt would be easier to build and paint until I get comfortable with the hobby.  It's 1500 pts because the gaming store near me hosted 1500 pt game nights but has recently closed. Fortunately there is another game shop fairly close.

I have two questions now. First is this an OK army for casual play? And secondly what would you add to get up to 2000 pts as the people at the store I go to now supposedly prefer that size army for games

Thanks for the help!

Looks good. I think there a lot of ways to play, and so I don' thave any suggestions about the troops, rares and specialists. I also don't have tons of Ogre experience yet, but I do have some general advice about the characters.

A Battle Standard Bearer is really useful, especially at 2000 points. It's easy to lose a combat by a wound, then have your expensive unit die while fleeing. The Rerolls the battle standard gives you make a huge difference.

Also, I'd bring the slaughtermaster to level 4. The extra spell and the bonus on casting/dispelling are better boost than it seems. You might also consider some magic item to that improves his armor or gives a ward save, he's nearly naked out there on the battle field with just an ironfist.
Hey there!

Before I get into anything, I don't recommend posting all the individual points cost for items and upgrades, (GW doesn't really like it) so instead just keep it to the total points for a character or unit.

Okay, I like your list a lot, but there are a few things that I'd suggest. First, I would prefer a butcher in the place of the Firebelly. It gives us a chance to have a Level Four Wizard with either Lore of Beasts, Death, or Heavens. I usually take heavens as it has a lot of strong Augment spells and Hexes to help break through, also the Lore Characteristic can sometimes knock a dragon out the sky.

I'd also probably change one of the units of Ogres into Ironguts. The guts do a lot of work against heavily armoured units.

I hope this helps!
Thanks for the in put guys. Definitely getting a BSB and still tooling around with iron guts and such to get to 2000
