Gotrek & Felix series

With the mention of Gotrek in the Nagash book combining nicely with the fact I had recently finished another series of novels, I have decided to begin reading the Gotrek & Felix series. Do any any of you have any first hand experience with the series at all and could recommend them (or not?)? I read Trollslayer very quickly and quite enjoyed it but I found the writing style to be repetitive and ever so slightly boring at times. However I'm already enjoying the characters. Skavenslayer is much better as it appears to have an overall narrative that was missing from the first novel.

Anyway, I know the writer changes halfway through the series.

Have any of you Ogres read them?

The first novel was essentially small stories from Felix's travels with Gotrek. In the later books there is more of a story development, although there are still some boring and repetitive themes (love lives, main enemies, to name a couple without giving spoilers).

They're wonderful Warhammer-fluff rich stories and I absolutely recommend them to any fantasy player, just be warned that they will have some parts that are slow to get through.


P.S. Ever read the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Essentially the same way; Beautiful fantasy story laden with periodical boredom, but not NEARLY as often with Gotrek and Felix.

Perfect. I'm sold on your description and comparison alone. If any others wish to discuss the series please do as I'm sure I will come back and post my opinions and take part in any discussion!

As mentioned above there are some rough patches and uninspired plot features, but just churn along and in a few pages it will be better. I don't have anything to discuss, but I just want to throw out the fact that I love the series. To the point that I'm working on my third/fourth time through it (some of the earlier ones I've read more often) and am slowly but surely collecting the models to make 2000 point dwarves vs daemons karag dum themed armies.

The series has its ups and downs and like many pulp style stories the characters and themes can be a bit repetitive at times but overall they are enjoyable. The William King ones are the best. I would stick to the main storyline first. The collections and other one offs are just not as good.

Also read them all, plot is not that surprising in the next books (Gotrek slays and slays from skaven to undead to dragons and deamons. His battles get bigger an bigger. The read is quit quick as you already experienced and in places not so good or even boring, but overall it is fun and when you love the characters they are good reads. I can find myself in the pulp comparising as well. Have fun reading!

Daemon Slayer is one of my favorite books ever.

I am on a business trip and this thread gave me the idea to bring 'Trollslayer' with me. I'm loving it so far. Thanks for the suggestion.
