Tyrant Build?

original thread ↗

Tyrant -305pts
-Greedy Fist, Giantbreaker, Sword of Swiftslaying, Enchanted Shield
   -Heavy Armour

Anyone used a build similar to this? ASF Strength 7, and a 3+ save. Would this work well?

Certainly more viable now with the 50% lord allowance from the Nagash book.  :D

Kind regards Zolas.

Although do bare in mind that the 50% ruling is only if your playing the Nagash supplement rules!. The Nagash book is not a change to the rules, more an expansion or supplement that could be used if you choose to do so.
WFB rule book still stands as the main rule book.

(The reason I say this is I have heard people, not here as such, around and about saying that the Warhammer FB rules have changed, which is not actually the case. just to be transparently clear).
I've been trying to figure out a way to make Greedy Fist seem more tempting.  I think this is it.  Looks nice!
Hey hey, you you, I don' like your gnoblar!
No no, no way, I think ya need a new one!
Hey hey, you you, I could be your gnoblar!
Na na na na na na na!
For tournament/competitive close lists I would give him the Rock eye aswell. Just a nice little bonus to get a step ahead of any nasty suprises.
I'd rather have the potion of speed for that one turn where you really need the rerolls. I4 doesn't get you too many ASF rerolls anymore.

Thats a really cool idea with that build to be honest.  I would second that one!

I was forgetting his low Ini. Potion of speed would indeed be better.
Tyrant -285pts
-Greedy Fist, Giantbreaker, Potion of Speed, Enchanted Shield
   -Heavy Armour

Comments taken on board. That also cuts his cost by 20 points!
Also, forgot to mention the Greedy Fist's properties. So in total he has Strength 7, I4 (7 for a turn), 3+ Armour save, 6+ ward. If he saves a magic weapon's attack with the ward he renders it nearly useless, not to mention the pain he brings to Wizards in combat.

We all have the Ogre armybook so we know what is does m8  ;)

And we meant for the potion of speed to go with your original build. So keep the sword of swift slaying in there.

You can pop the potion of a round where you really need the extra ini to get some rerolls with ASF.
I know, I was just summing it up :P

Oh right.. completely forgot about ASF rerolls!

Instead of dealing with the one turn that you might get rerolls, what about just taking the sword of striking?  Hit most things on 2s, tough things on 3, nurgle DPs on 4.

You still get hit first by most things, but you are not reliant on one turn of potion use.
Huh, interesting.
I was also thinking about taking a powerful build like this but on a Slaughtermaster instead, for the Level 4.
So

Slaughtermaster
- 370pts
 Level 4
Dispel Scroll, Greedy Fist, Sword of Striking, Ironcurse Icon

Damn, just thinking that the Sword of Striking won't be as effective on the SM, as he's only WS4.

On a slaughter master, my favorite build is fencers, glittering scales, greedy fist. Str 5, hit on 3, get hit on 5 or 6, extra attack, and still have a ward.
Well, Sword of Striking is cheap and tends to mean you're hitting most things on 2's really with a Tyrant. Enemy characters goes to 3's (on average) which is still nice.

Sword of Swift Slaying is odd - you'll get re-rolls against half the things out there (Lizzies, Dwarfs, Orcs and Gobbos, certain Undead, Ogres, etc) but not against the other half. HOWEVER, you will be denying Elves their re-roll from Always Strike First (and certain Daemons and Warrior builds too), which is also a tremendous deal.
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
I see a lot of Elves in my area so I think the Sword of Swift Slaying to negate their re-rolls is really valuable.
I'm constantly seeing giantbreaker in the tyrant builds, but doesn't the forced challenge kind of negate a lot of his killiness?

Not every unit has a champ, and most people want the strength boost while still having a specific magic weapon.  I like having the sword of striking, but want to still be a can opener.

The forced challenge doesn't hurt too much.  You can get overkill on most champs, and you want to be in combat with characters anyway.  Great weapons work too, if you are worried about the challenges ruining your plan.
In this thread, there seems to be an assumption that Giantbreaker forces the tyrant to accept challenges.  This is not correct.

From the Army Book, pg 61:  "A character with the Giantbreaker name has +1 Strength on his profile.  He may never refuse challenges, and neither he nor a unit he is with may choose to flee as a charge reaction."

Not being able to refuse a challenge is not the same as being forced to accept.  Just run the Giantbreaker tyrant in a unit with a champion and maybe another character (maybe a BSB with 4++).  The Giantbreaker is not forced to offer a challenge, and if the opponent offers a challenge, then you can accept with the champion (and then the BSB).  A Giantbreaker should rarely be in a situation where the inability to refuse a challenge actually matters.

The restriction on fleeing comes into play much more often, and it would be wise for a player using a Giantbreaker to also make sure they have plentiful and effective chaff.
