Commander Panda's Ogre Odyssey

Hello! And welcome to my Ogre Gnoblog.

First off, I would like to apologise for the massive pictures. I am not sure how to resize them in the blog. I have an Imgur Album, which I am uploading my Ogre pics too. Second of all I would like to establish that I am not a good painter. Thirdly I am becoming a bit of an Ogre fan. This is despite, or perhaps, because I do have a Mantic Orc project, a Lizardmen project on the go and not to mention a mixture of Mantic Elves and old GW Dark Elves gestating in the back of my mind and attic.

Even though there is a massive backlog of things to paint, in a natural process I have got an Ogre army as well. This army is actually making headway, and the ratio of painted to WIP to unpainted minis is highly favourable. Ogres are ace, the low mini count means things get done*!

I have already a fairly developed fluff for my Ogres....in the Kings of War universe. Ogres take over a human mountain kingdom basically, with GW Ogres as an aristocratic elite class and Mantic Ogres as "commoners". I am working on a background for them in WHFB but as yet beyond ginger hair and some names taken from the Ogre Name Generator I haven't got much. A big issue is reconciling the slim big-guns Mantic Ogres with the beer belly bullies of GW's Ogres. I'm sure I will work something out, and if any one has any ideas to start me off feel free to let me know!

I have painted my Mantic Ogres with purplish skin and ginger hair. This is because purple is my favourite colour and my wife is a ginger. It is quite striking on the Mantic Ogres which already have this scheme, and I do rather like it. I will apply this scheme to the GW Ogres I get. 3 Leadbelchers are currently marinating in Dettol to be stripped and cleansed ready for my painting efforts. I have some Mantic Trolls which will be part of the army, mainly because I have them and they are about the right size for an Ogre army. Just don't mention their tiny legs. They are kind of defensive about that!

So there you have it, my dabblings in the world of fantasy Ogres. I will continue to document my efforts here, when I get time. My daughter has recently changed her sleeping pattern so I seem to have even less time than usual for hobbying.

*The first person/company to make a pill that overrides hobby magpie syndrome will be rich, so so rich. Imagine all the completed and painted minis!
