Yo Ogres,

This is my first topic on the ogre stronghold after recently getting back into painting ogres, I have been in this hobby for nearly two years now and mainly just paint the miniatures that Games workshop produce. I have never played any of the games but may start think about playing if I get an army together.
I have painted ogres before as I have painted 6 ogre bulls, an Ironblaster and a thundertusk but sold them a few months ago.
So this gnoblog will be starting from scratch and hopefully by the end of it I aim to have most if not all of the ogre kingdoms available built and painted, that's the plan anyways.

The models I have at the moment are the scraplauncher which is a work in progress,

I am using warbosstae's tutorial to paint it but will be adding my own touches, the rhinox is complete and I used conogres youtube video for the tusks which I think turned out quite could with such a simple technique.
I added 'ardcoat to the rhinox's teeth and nose to give the effect of slime and slaver.

Here is two of my ogres from my battalion but will be stripping them off because I'm not too happy with them as I painted them quite a while ago.

And finally my ogre Lord and heroes, which are the ogre tyrant, Firebelly, Golgfag Maneater and Bragg the Gutsman.

Anyways let me know what you think, and any advice will be welcome.

Thanks for looking,
Gav  :D
Here is some more of my work which is the imperial knight I painted, this was all panted by hand.

Thanks for looking

Gav.
I know exactly zero about the round base game, but that model looks great!

Thanks for the kind comment mate  :)
I have to say that robot thing does look awesome like a mini titan from FW. I gave up playing 40k a year ago so I am not up on the latest models, but I am assuming this is one of the models that is party to the idea that you can "bring a nuclear warhead to kill a mouse".

None-the-less you have done an amazingly clean job with the painting, the iconography on it is really nicely done. More over the "wear" on the white part of the helmet looks really sweet and top-notch work. I would be tempted to "dirty" some of the other white areas on it so they look a bit worn. In fact I may be tempted to suggest that a bit of wear and tear all over might look a bit more natural.

The overall impression is that this model is as if it has come straight of the production line, which in itself is not a bad thing. You have done an outstanding job with the painting on it so you should be proud of it.  :)

The Rhinox looks really good too, I am suspecting that if we get to see some more of your work it all has this crisp clean style with attention to detail. I look forward to seeing more!

(although I would add I personally look forward to seeing more Ogres, as I absolutely hate Space Marines with a passion unbeknown to man...it's a long standing personal thing :D . It is not one shared by anyone else here; so keep them models coming!)

Welcome to the Stronghold!

Clearly you some skill with a brush indeed.  The rhinox is looking great as are the ogres.

The Imperial Knight is just brilliant.  Have to say that gold has come out exceptionally well how did you achieve the effect?

Kind regards Zolas.

Wow thanks for the long reply G_H,

The titan is a newish games workshop miniature, I'm glad you like it.
I totally agree with you that it could have done with weathering up a bit, but didn't trust myself at the time not to over do it. :)

I am quite pleased with how the rhinox came out and will hopefully get some more pics of the scraplauncher soon as all I need to do is the gnoblars.

I understand where you are coming from with space marines as they seem to be everywhere and that's all you see with 40k nowadays haha :)

thanks.

Thanks for the warm welcome Zolas.

Hopefully there will be more pics soon of my scraplauncher as it is near completion.

Glad you like the knight, the gold was done with liquid gold from Vallejo and once dry I used Seraphim Sepia watered down to wash over it like a glaze. I am quite happy with how it came out in general.

Thanks,
Gav.
Ah space marines, the old GW poster boys! The knight is a great model and your paintjob on it really makes it stand out. I think we should get used to these massive face-smasher giants as I think there will be a few appearing in WFB very soon (Nagash anyone...).

Your ogres looks great, a really nice colour scheme and you've managed to paint white trousers which look great for which I will hate you forever (I jest of course, its one of those colours I really struggle with - if you'd care to share how you did it...). They look almost like some kind of empire faction type ogre, almost miltarized. I look forward to seeing some more.
I will be keeping an eye on this Gnoblog for sure. If your Ogres end up looking as good as your Imperial Knight, it will be a pleasure to keep track of your progress.

Very good start on the Rhinox. Now paint more and bring is more pictures :D.

Thanks for the kind words mate,
The Nagash model looks so cool I might have to pick it up haha (Dam Games Workshop and there good looking models) :)

The white trousers I painted a while ago and if I remember rightly I just got a good coat of white on them and then picked out all the recesses with watered down nuln oil wash and highlighted back up. If I was going to do the white again I would probably go with a really light grey for a basecoat and wash it with nuln oil and highlight back up with the grey and leave the white for the last highlight to give a bit more scale effect.

I like to give my ogres a bit more of a random colour scheme when it comes to the clothing as when they are looting places for clothing they aren't going to be exactly the same colours.

thanks,
Gav.

Glad you like the progress so far and the knight mate.
The scraplauncher is nearly finished just need the gnoblars to do and then pics will be posted.

Thanks for the comment pal.
This is some phenomenal painting. Especially if that is all freehand and not transfers on the knight. Welcome to the Stronghold! You will be right at home here I think! I look forward to watching the rest of your projects develop!

Thanks for the welcome,
I wish could paint free hand like that, but they are transfers apart from the black and white pattern on its shoulder pad.
thanks,
Gav,
...they are transfers...

That would explain why the iconography is so nicely done then. It doesn't detract from your painting skills, but I just assumed you painted the icons on him too... my bad

Thanks for all the comments and welcomes guys,

Got some more done on my scraplauncher this week and it is almost finished just needs the gnoblars painting and I think I need to add more weathering to the metal parts as they look too clean to belong to an ogre army,
Here's some pics

And here it is with some more additions to my army which got delivered last week.

Thanks for looking,
Gav
that scrap launcher looks great. I agree that the metal is quite 'clean' and doesn't have the dirty/rusty look of other ogre armies but I actually think it fits in quite well with the ironguts you've painted. You're tribe look like quite a well equipped bunch with access to newer weapons and equipment. I think this is a nice look and sets your tribe apart from others, personally I wouldn't change it, it all goes together really well.
Thanks for the nice words mate,
I think I will take your advice on this one and see what the rest of the army comes out like first and then decide whether to dirty them up or not.
Cheers.
Gav.
