The 100 game pledge

original thread ↗

History:
I have played in 4 and attended 6 ETC's.
The last two as non-playing captain and coach.
Our team (The Netherlands) is still improving itself and this year we could even almost match last year's winners.

I have been struggling for a goal, something to get me back in to Warhammer again apart from the occasional tournament or Thursday night at a friend's house.
The strangest thing was, that during the ETC I refound my spark.

So that means, I'm going to apply for the team as player next year.

This will be my main goal of this year and to get there I have to play games.
Lots of games.

The pledge
100 games to pledge doesn't seem to be alot in countries like the UK, where there are many 2 day tournaments to rack op the tally.
In the Netherlands, however, there are mostly 1 day tournaments and you hope to get one every month.

The end date of this blog will be 8 or 15 August depending on the date of the ETC next year or when I'm desillusioned by the fact that I didn't make the team.

So on average I have to play 2 games a week with of course tournaments helping me boost that or catch up with the numbers.

I have found 4 tournaments of 2 days I can attend, and a couple of one-dayers I have already found/ attend every year.
Doubles tournaments will be counted too, and I have two of those to attend at least.

I will report my games and progression here.

Game 1 - Ogres vs Skaven
So first start with game one.
I went to a friend's house yesterday to play game one and as we both just wanted to have fun and not get tactics in the way, it became a straight forward game.
He had a list with lord with fell blade, grey seer, two assassins and toys.
I myself had the usual gutstar, death lord, and some sniping maneaters and scouting maneaters.
Basically it went down to his stormvermin charging my gutstar with no buffs on either side and bouncving off of it.
As his mages and BSB were in the slaves unit behind it and it would be my turn to charge I gave up.
I played TERRIBLE but it is better to be lucky then good in this case.
I grade myself a 1/10 for skills, 10/10 on luck and  my opponent 10/10 on fun

See you next time.

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

Hi Lexy

Sounds like great fun, but hard work as well.

Best of Luck to you and keep up the dedication.
Minds are like parachutes. They work best when open.
Best of luck Lexy.  I committed to documenting a 'Journey of 100 Battles' on Ulthuan.net back in February 2012.  It more turned into a love/hate relationship with Tomb Kings if anything but damn did I learn some things about that army.  It currently stands at 141 games with full battle reports and commentary and its still growing.

It serves as a great tool to see how your game improves, inspires others and is great to pull snippets of information out of for various articles.

Looking forward to following this.

Thanks guys,

I played game number two yesterday.
The Dutch GT is coming and it is 2200 points no comp with some scenarios.
So yesterday was the first practice game with my army.
It basically stands like this:
Level 4 death with earthing rod and 4+ wardsave
Level 1 gutmaw with hellheart.
Level 1 firebelly with scroll
BSB with runemawbanner

10 ironguts with full command and banner of discipline
3x 10 gnoblars

6 maneaters with banner, musician, all have brace of pistols and poison, sniper
2x1 sabretusks

2 ironblasters

The reason for this setup and the maneaters in particular are that special characters are allowed and they normally tend to be less protected then there unnamed characters.

Yesterday I played the champion of last year's GT and this time he brought Warriors of chaos.
I deployed in the corner and tried to get him in waves in and not all in one go.

Main points were: my purple sun misfired, his killed 4 out of 5 maneaters after they had killed his lord.
If it was the other way around, it would have been a big win for me and now it was a big win for him.

I played so much better, the the game before and made only some small errors in deploying.
Again a fun game where alot went wrong on both sides.
24 maneater attacks with poison in combat is not a thing any opponent wants to face

Right, game 3/100
Testing for the Dutch GT and I'll tell you this:
Vampires are still hard, when you don't have magical weapons.

I lost everything by playing not at my best against a very good opponent.
I'll have to adjust my list to get some magical items in there.

To help my sniping maneaters I need some characters who die from them 8)

I despise playing VC as my list used to be pretty light on magic weapons and even magic at times!

Great to see you making a large commitment to the game. Something like this needs to happen to me soon...it may be the end times sparks it off.

I have every confidence you will make the team and playing 100 games varying from all out for victory and just for fun should greatly increase your knowledge of your army, opponents and importantly keeping that balance between wanting to win and it still being fun!

Team is still a 50-50 (I'm in or not 8))
The rest is a bit dependant on me making the team.

I had games 4-6 last weekend in a doubles tournament.
I normally don't like doubles, but I was invited, so why not.

We had dark elves and ogres.
1000 points per army, most notable units in our team:
Ironblaster, 9 leadbelchers, 2 units of 5 warlocks, witch elves.

Round 1 vs double empire (double steamtank)
Their steamtanks couldn't kill my ironblaster and I had too many targets.
In the end we used terrain to get a 14-6 win.

Round 2 vs VC and high elves.
The VC players mate couldn't make it, so their team was a little awkard, but still won their first round.
We killed everything but a unit vargheists and a unit phoenix guard for a 17-3

Round 3 vs empire and dark elves.
Another steamtank and warlocks against us.
The steamtank got himself 3 wounds and then I smelled blood and killed it in two turns.
In the end they had their dark elf peg hero still on the table and we the two units of warlocks and the ironblaster.
Epic game with a 12-8 win.

Because the number 3 after 2 rounds massacred the number 4, they got first and passed us.
So still second, and quite happy with the way we played.

After that garlic spare ribs, Yum.
