Maneater Minotaur Unit of Facemelting Death and Blood!!!

original thread ↗

Hi guys,

I wanted to give my thoughts on this unit of Maneaters I've recently started playing with and how well they've done. If you saw my gnoblog you know I'm running eight strong of beefy cow goodness. This is what they come with:

Maneaters x8
Captain (GW), Bellower/Standard (AHWs), AHWx1, GWsx2, Unequippedx2, HA, Banner of Swiftness
Been There Done That: Swiftstride, Stubborn

In keeping with the Minotaur/beastly combat vibe of my army, this unit is designed for slaying enemy units. Assuming they are at full strength, on the charge (with a good chance for an Ogre Charge, and actually making it thanks to Swiftstride) there is at least 4 S6 impact hits, 21 S5 hits at I3, 11 S7 hits ASL, and 4 S5 Stomps at ASL (assuming, again, that I can). Basically, if my opponent doesn't whittle them down beforehand they will crush face beyond compare. Except against Witchelves, but we don't talk about them.

I played a mirror match last week against the ogre gutstar netlist, and this unit beat said gutstar by a landslide. I mean it wasn't even close, I think I won by nine wounds alone! Granted he was Stubborn :| but oh man, the amount of damage I caused was insane. If I remember right half of my unit got wrecked too, but that didn't end up mattering hehe

...Of course I used a Stonehorn as chaff to get that charge, but I never claimed to be sane...

Now this unit comes in at over 500 pts and needs to be used right to get anywhere near its points back. I played at 3k in that game so had the points to spend. Backed up by two Stoneys, my own gut unit and MF, there was so much target saturation that they remained unscathed until combat. Anyone have experiences with a unit like this, playing with or against? Gimme your thoughts (and your limbs!!!)
It's a favorite of mine, though I typically don't bother with the champion or the great weapons.  What I DO occasionally add is a thundertusk sitting right behind them.  With only 2 ranks, the 6" ASL aura reaches over them quite nicely, and it is absolutely WONDERFUL when you get to see the look on a WoC player's face when 32 S5 attacks hit him FIRST
Oooh that's nasty! Definitely a great combo there, it might even make me bring out my thundy to try again!
I've used a very similar unit for the last 30-ish games, including 15+ games in  GT's.  The difference is that I run the Dragonhide banner instead of the Swiftness one and I give them Poison instead of Stubborn.

The damage output is incredible (ask Gutlord Inquisitor... they made a 9 inch charge into his Gutstar in game 5 at Southern Assault ... killed 7 Ironguts and a Butcher in the first round alone, as I recall).
