basic 2500 list

original thread ↗

Since I'm getting my feet wet, here's my list thus far:

Slaughtermaster lvl 4 - maw magic enchanted shield/channeling staff/talisman of preservation/crown of command
butcher lvl 2 - death magic armor of destiny
bruiser BSB standard of discipline
9-ogre block w/crusher  banner/musician
9-ogre block w/ crusher banner/musician
10-ogre block w/ crusher banner/musician
3 kitties (all separate)
4 mournfang w/ crusher banner/musician great weapons'
total points 2485.
2 iron blasters
I'm more or less interested in making this list work- but if not possible, I can modify as needed.  The whole idea was to run a HUGE mass of fat guys with long range support and chaff control with kitty cats.  I'm open to suggestions- tell me what you've got!

Its a good list, quite similar to the basis of most of my lists (I usually run a unit of leadies or maneaters instead of MFC).  I do have some pointers, though.

1.) A level two of death isn't worth it.  A level 2 doesnt have a good shot at getting any particular spell, so level 2s are taken more with an eye towards using the lore's signature spell, in case you roll some stinkers.  Spirit leech, while a great spell, isnt a good one for Ogres since our leadership score typically sucks.  If Death magic is a integral part of your tactics, than shift your SM to death, but I wouldn't recommend this lore for a level 2.  I DO recommend a level 2 of Beasts, however.  Beast's sig, Wildform, is fantastic, and combines  amazingly well with the spells from Maw, AND works great on big units of Bulls, plus it's easier to cast on MFC and Ironblasters.
2.) Pull the AoD off your level 2, regardless of what lore you plan on running on him.  The level 2 should never be in the front rank unless you're specifically planning on going for the Wall of Characters.  Keep him in the second rank, either with a 5-point magic weapon, or a great weapon.  The first in case of ethereals, and the later provides some nice armor punch or reliable wounds against a monster.
3.) Great weapon on the BSB.  Keeping him cheap like that is a good idea, and all you're losing by keeping him in the second rank is 1 attack.  Might as well make his other 3 S7 :D
4.) I'd consider dropping the Enchanted Shield and Channeling Staff from the SM.  My personal favorite kit for him is a GW, the trickster's helm, and the ToP.  However, if you're set on running the CoC, then keep it, the ToP, and then go either the dispel scroll (though personally I'd put that on the level 2), or the Sword of Swiftness.  Again, it helps against any Ethereals, but it also strips rerolls from elves or other ASF characters.
5.) I'm going to assume you did and just didn't write it down, but put Ironfists on all of your Ogres :D

Hope this is useful!
I did forget to mention that yeah, the bulls do have the ironfist.  Thank you for the feedback- I have since taken the MFC out and replaced it with a block of 8 leadbelchers, swapped out the butcher for a firebelly (still on the fence about this one)- your thoughts on a butcher with beasts and just go pure augment and just become a wall of 'steel' fat.... I like it.

thank you again for the feedback!
