August is officially the month of the "Gnoblar Hero" and to mark this occasion here at the Ogre Stronghold, we are going to be running our Gnoblar hero competition.
Not the most renowned of heroes, nor the biggest, not even remotely hero-like to be honest: The Gnoblar Hero is none-the-less an integral part of any Gnoblar horde.
So here is what we would like you to do;
For this part of our Gnoblar Hero competition you will need to build and paint your own Gnoblar hero!
Then we would like you to tell us how this half-pint hero managed to rise to his position of glory amongst his kind.
You will have until August 29th to assemble and paint your Gnoblar hero and write a short explination of how he rose to fame.
Why August 29th? Because this will be the day on which we commence our
GNOBLAR HERO ARENA OF DEATH CHALLENGE
This will be the place where you can test your Gnoblars metal against his peers (more details about this part of the competition will follow).
Let us not focus on the Gnoblar arena just yet though! First off you need to have a Gnoblar Hero to field!
Your Gnoblar hero should be mounted on a 40x40mm base (the same size as a standard Ogre bull) this will allow you to be creative with the base that your little hero can have.
Members of the Stronghold Guard will be judging all the entrants and awarding prizes/ Gnoblars/ scraps of meat and (recently dropped ) shiny things to the best of the fluff, models, painting and ultimately the overall Gnoblar hero at the culmination of the Gnoblar Hero Arena of Death.
So Fellow Ogres now is the time; Write his tale and build the little guy!
THE CLOCK IS TICKING!

Question!
Does the Gnoblar Hero have to be on a 20x20 base? Or can he be, say, made on a 40x40 base to be treated as a unit filler for future use? (I have a great idea for the latter if that's allowed, otherwise I can work with the normal base ).

What's the stat line for a gnoblar hero?
Gnoblar_Herder04 Aug 2014
For the purpose of this competition the Gnoblar hero base will be;
40x40mm
the same as your standard ogre bull. This will allow for some creative modelling and additions to the base. I will add this into the original post to clarify.
On the Gnoblar hero stat line; I will get back to you on this. At present it is not as important as getting started on making the model. The stat line will become more prevalent when the Gnoblar Hero AoD is announced by one of the other Stronghold Guard members.

It'd be kinda awesome where we'd get a set number of points to actually "build" our own character's statlines... But, that'd get complicated lol

I agree, it would be good, but we are not going to do that. A stat line for the Gnoblar Hero will be posted shortly after some discussion with all the 'guard. We have something in place for this, we are just ironing out any creases. Trust us we are onto it.

Shame it's a 40mm base otherwise I totally would enter him! But I have good plans for my next Name my Gnoblar already! stay tuned! Though I could modify a 40mm base to let him slot into perhaps?

Zolas; you could always insert him on his 20mm base into a 40mm surround.
It's 40mm though, so maybe a new Gnoblar? If he is as infamous as young catnip then he will be prolific!

First post, but I've lurked here for 8 months as I've grown my Ogre army. I've recently fallen in love with Gnoblars, finished painting #30 last night. I would love to sculpt a gnoblar hero. I'll see if I can pull this together.

To show willing I said I would have a go too. So far I have been working on a little base for my hero and at present (though it is far from finished) it looks like this;
(and with a flash)
Once this is finished I can bung my lil' hero on top.
How is everyone else doing?

Well I have made some progress rummaging through spare bits I have managed to create this:
Note: the second picture is blue tac into place to give you an idea of what he will look like.
While somewhat based on Skragg a little I just could not resist giving the little fella a meatcleaver! That reminds me I have to add a second cleaver to the pot! I wanted to have a gut plate in the bottum of the pot to have a maw in a maw sort of thing also to give the dude some more hieght. The little buddy in front is there to pull my little hero around Added an extra base to main base for extra height which I will green stuff into a little mound. I plan to add some "troll guts" into the maw pan too.
Hope you like it.

Neezy - who's to say that isn't your gnoblar champion with his ogre bodyguard who never leaves his side? (Who happens to be so stupid it's painful - he takes no part in combat due to his utter 'special'-ness which would explain the stats for the arena and he strikes enough fear into other gnoblars by just being there for your little man to be champ...

You could always use dwarf slayers if you have some laying around or lacking that you could try to sculpt it. I personally think it would make it look cooler with a plume (you were right its called a plume). The decision is yours so go with what your comfortable with doing.

Gnoblar_Herder11 Aug 2014
Oh truly nice work there Spike_akers that guy looks awesome!
On the subject of weapons; we (the guard) are currently looking at using the Gnoblar horde rules from WD for the AoD battle. I could post a link (which the astute could find pretty easily if they tried). We would be looking at using just the rules for the head honcho character. We have yet to decide if we are going to use some custom magic/ weapons or just stick with the original's. It is because of this that we have been vague about what the details of the Gnoblar Hero AoD character can have rules/ weapons-wise.
We are hoping to make it a decent and special match, but we don't want to make it so hard for ourselves that it isn't fun for everyone. We thought that having our own weapons/ magic as created and described by your very own MOD team would be fun, but at the same time we don't want to make things too hard for everyone to understand.
For clarities sake we (the MODs) are looking at this as a basis for rules for the AoD, there are no secrets here, so your thoughts are welcome...(but our word is final )
Remember though, it's head honcho, not the periphery stuff.

I had to promise to name him after the m8 I got him from, will think of something with the name Onno

I may not get this done in time, but I'm determined to have a go - especially seeing as how much I enjoyed reading the battle of the tyrants! It won't be as grand as some of the entries I've seen so far due to a very constricted (and variable!) time scale and a huge lack of ability but hopefully it will be a bit of fun and provide me with a nice unit filler for my Gnobs.

Meet Oxy, reluctant participator but eventual victor in the inaugural Gnoblar Games. The rules are simple, you must be the last survivor as you face hundreds of your own kind as well as all manners of wild beast.
Witnesses differ in their accounts - some say he cowered, waiting for the competition to do all the hard work, others say he used his cunning to time his involvement in the contest to perfection once most had been wiped out, whilst some see him as an opportunist, he happened across the fatally wounded beast and stood on top warning all others off who soon fled in fear and were crushed on the outskirts. All that we can be sure of is that the Rhinox was no more and Oxy was the last remaining Gnoblar left alive.
As Victor, Oxy was given his name, awarded with the head of the beast, his own Barrel to sleep in and a space on the wall-outside the settlement of course but a space to call his own all the same.
Evoluo19 Aug 2014
That is a good looking Gnoblar m8!
Small difference between opportunist and perfect timing, all that counts is surviving for a Gnoblar!
I will be starting my gnoblar on thursday, still figuring out what to do with him.

Thought I'd throw my gnoblar into the mix. Front image back image
Nagel was a young gnoblar with ambitions to be the best trapper in the tribe. He found the best hunter in the tribe and stuck as close to him as possible. Nagel did everything he was told, and learned a lot becuase of it. The best advice he ever got was "Everyone is looking for the free meal, so you don't always have to beat the beast just out smart the one who did". Taking this advice to heart Nagel started to see hunting in a different way. Now instead of rushing the beast first each time he waited till the beast was all but down or untill its would be hunter was.
Nagel's master was Hunting a particularly gruesome beast, little to his knowledge so was a group of dark elves wishing to enslave it. The dark elves attacked just as Nagel's master had trapped the beast. Nagel's master was out numbered and out matched but he fought on, the fight didn't last long as a dark elf spear found home in his chest. Nagel seeing his opportunity stabbed his masters killer with his rusty old knife wounding but not killing him, then scurried away hoping to survive the day. Long after what was left of the group hauled off the beast, Nagel returned taking the things he thought he would need from his masters corpse. Before Nagel left he removed the spear from his masters chest and broke the top off Vowing to forever fight the elves for what they had done.

So please bear with me on this one.
Here we have my Gnoblar Hero. I left their spear in the left hands intact, but I gave the bottom guy a shield and the top guy has replaced his weapon with a torn off tail from a Skaven rat. DSC_0195 by Evoluo, on Flickr
Here we have a picture from the back. I put some skaven throwing stars in to the shield. DSC_0192 by Evoluo, on Flickr
And then we have the base. The Gnoblar Hero will be standing on the defeated skaven on the ground. If you look closely you can see that he has no tail, wonder where that might have gone And another skaven is already trying to strike the Hero. DSC_0188 by Evoluo, on Flickr

Well here he is, Gnobtrek the Giant Slayer, official gnoblar drill sergeant for Gutreths Villans and an inspiration to the many little green guys that are part of the tribe.
Life however has not always been as high profile for Gnobtrek however, here is the story of how he achieved such a lofty position:
Bogrot was a particularly cowardly, unlikeable and weedy little fellow, even by gnoblar standards and was often the butt of the other gnoblars tricks and pranks. One day, whilst battling an incursion of beastmen into the Villans territory, Bogrots unit came face to face with the monstrous form of a chaos giant, intent on pounding every last one of them into the ground. Whilst the rest of the gnoblars jostled each other forward, throwing all manner of sharp objects to try and halt the giants ferocious charge, Bogrot chose the only course of action he deemed reasonable in the situation and found a smallish hole in the ground to dive into and hide. As the giant jumped repeatedly up and down, squashing gnoblars asunder, Bogrot pulled his old pal Grimsnot over on top of himself and cowered.
After several minutes of repetitive thumping, followed by a particularly loud thump, all went quiet. Composing himself, Bogrot pushed the body of Grimsnot, which now had the consistency of a cold pancake, out of the way and had a look around. In an incredible stroke of luck, the giant, in the excitement of squashing so many small creatures, had taken a tumble and fallen flat on his face in the midst of the dead gnoblars. Not only this but the amusingly phallic standard that Bogrots unit had created had gone through the giants eye socket and penetrated his tiny brain killing him instantly.
Never one to miss an opportunity, Bogrot climbed on the massive form of the giant, proclaiming himself its vanquisher, and proceeded to spend the rest of the battle trying to hack off the beasts head. After the beastmen had been driven off and the fatties were busy finding the best bits of beast for the pre-fight feast, Gutreth and his ironguts came across Bogrot and his prize. Being begrudgingly impressed with Bogrots feat the ogres decided not to eat Bogrot, but instead put him in charge of training the new gnoblar recruits and showing them how to fight proper and even letting him have a few trinkets and weapons he found on the dead beastmen.
To cement his new important status as the most important gnoblar in the tribe, Bogrot decided a new name was in order. He remembered the tales the tribes maneaters told of a mighty dwarf giant slayer with orange hair and stripy trousers and hence Gnobtrek was born. To this day, Gnobtrek insists on having the decaying, and quite frankly foul smelling, head of his prize carted around with him to demonstrate his prowess to the others, and also the wafer thin form of his old pal Grimsnot, who he now affectionately calls Felix.
If you got this far, well done!!

Didn't want to miss this one, so have made some time this weekend to fit this little fella in:
Background: The Hunter Olbag One-eye, after visiting an old grizzled tribe deep in the Mountains of Mourn, was impressed with the success of the tyrant's luck gnoblar; particularly as during the feast the tyrant survived no less than three challenges and a bout of food-poisoning brought about by a year old carcass Olbag had overlooked at the bottom of his haul.
Feeling somewhat lucky to be beating a hasty retreat the next day, Olbag determined to obtain a luck gnoblar for himself, and use it in the pursuit of a stonehorn. It didn't take long to find a small gnoblar colony, and after tasting quite a few, he settled on Grabbit as a suitable candidate.
Grabbit then spent an uncomfortable few weeks stuffed in a small bag at Olbag's waist, popping his head out only occasionally to see how much colder the weather was getting and beg for a morsel of food, as Olbag made his way high up into the peaks, in search of his quarry.
Just as the new snow was beginning to fall, Olbag found his prize. Stomping his feet and hefting his mighty spear, he bellowed his challenge to the great beast, who slowly turned his head as he began to register the noise. Olbag increased his ruckus, and waved his spear around threateningly. Bit by bit, the monster turned his whole bulk to face the annoyance, snorted a great cloud of icy fog, and then pawed the ground with the speed and purpose of a bulldozer.
As the behemoth charged, Olbag planted his feet firmly in the snow, and set his spear against the charge, aiming for the minute black target, almost hidden beneath the beast's thick brow. The ground shook with the charge, but Olbag held fast. At the last minute, Grabbit popped his head out of the sack to see what the commotion was, and was treated to the sight of a Stonehorn in full flight, bearing down upon them. Terrified out of his tiny wits Grabbit leapt from the bag, and as he did so the beast turned his head a fraction in puzzlement to watch the new appearance's flight across the snow. Olbag missed, and the Stonehorn overran him like a Steamtank.
Hours later, freezing cold, Grabbit crept back to the mangled corpse of his former master, and finding nothing of interest left on the corpse, he was about to sit down in the snow and moan himself softly to death, when he spied Olbag's harpoon launcher, leaning against a nearby boulder. With all his strength, he hauled it onto the crisp snow, and looked at it thoughtfully. After several minutes, he resolved his thought, hopped onto the shaft, and kicked off with his legs. The launcher shifted in the snow, then slid, slowly at first, but picking up speed as it went downhill. Very quickly it was too fast to be stopped, and Grabbit held on for dear life as it bumped and slid him back down the mountain to warmer climes.
When he later discovered it could also be used to fire sharp things over great distances, he thought that Olbag must have been right about him after all.
*edit* helps to use the same name throughout ...
Bulls have grey skin. 'Nuff said.

@Baron Your gnoblar Hunter looks awesome mate.
Here's Gunny all painted up....just waiting on some snow basing to arrive.
Gunny has spent a little too much time around leadbelchers and has an unnatural fascination with gun powder. He is renown amongst the gnoblars for his ability to make the loudest, most spectacular traps. Due to his time spent around gun powder he is just slightly mad and can often be seen shouting "BOOM" and chuckling to himself.

Shouldn't be a problem but it will of course be a first come first served basis if we have 50 entries haha. I will be posting my entry later this evening...
An ancient enemy of the world has returned this day to the world of Warhammer, and ancient evil, resurrected (from the depths of my gnoblog!). Some might call them the end times... No, I'm not speaking about Nagash or Archaon! Gnoblar Overlord Extraordinaire - it's the return of Weaklip Craphoarder!!!!!!!

Weedsey the Fishslayer, spends his time on his giant lucky rock by the shore eating his favorite food, seaweed( hence the name weedsey) and remaining on constant vigil for deadly chaos fish that would eat him or the gnoblars of the nearby shanty town, but mostly him. Life wasn't always so good for weedsey though, early in his life he was ridiculed for his love of seaweed and spent most of his time by the shore. One day while exploring for food along the shore he happened to come across a giant blue rock the size of an ogre. As he was climbing the rock he saw infamous chaos fish,Silvergill the Glowing washed up on shore flopping its way towards him. Frightened by the sudden appearance of the dreaded chaos fish he fell off the rock and became stuck in rocks and sand that covered the beach. Not wanting to be eaten by the floundering fish before him he started grasping at the giant blue rock to pull himself up, but to no avail. Suddenly as the fish was about to latch its jaws on the the helpless gnoblar, he accidentally broke off a large jagged shard of the rock and impaled the fishes tail, prolonging its misery and ending its reign of terror. It was from that day forward the made this lucky rock into his home and the shard into his favorite weapon. Seen as a hero that slayed the fish that had eaten so many of his fellow gnobs he was declared the Fishslayer and battles other terrors that prowl the shoreline waiting to eat a fellow gnob or wash up helplessly on shore on shore.
As a side note the chaos fish never grows beyond the size of a human leg, while a fearsome opponent for gnoblars it is nothing but a joke to the ogres that live near by.

Just spend the night with my gf at a friends house. He used to play skaven, but now he's more in to 40k (don't hold it against him he's a nice bloke)
He gave us a basic paint tutorial and we could borrow his paints and brushes. So here is my Hero Gnoblar (not completely finished, because we ran out of time).
I will add their fluff tomorrow. It's getting late right now.
PS. My gf painted up a Leadbelcher and he looks alot better than my paintjob... (she is more the artistic type I guess )

Woohoo Just finished mine so here one pic. I will put up more on my Gnoblog. I will sort out fluff for the fella tomorrow as I have been really tierd due to my son starting his terrible 2's!
Weenie Todd Was just a regular Gnoblar like many others. Just happy to be still be alive and not an ogres dinner dead in some unpleasant and descriptive manner. One day he caught the eye of one of the slaughter masters of the Thunder Frost tribe. Luckily for Weenie Todd he did not end up being a tooth Gnoblar like some unlucky fellows, but was used as an assistant for the slaughter master! Turns out he had a knack for getting the best cuts of meat, flesh, giblets and organs alike. This please the slaughter master sooo much that he even gave Weenie Todd his two best meat cleavers, "Slice and Dice!" With these unique cleavers (name) became even more professional at carving up prime cuts for the slaughter master.
As time went on Weenie Todd made quite the name for himself. The Slaughter master was so pleased with him he decided it was time to make a mobile "Work station" for Weenie Todd so the catapult of a destroyed scrap launcher which is made in the image of the Great Maw was recycled as Weenie Todd chariot and butchers bench as an all in one. The Slaughter master ordered 1 of of his other Gnoblars to pull Weenie Todd so that no time can be wasted from his carving duties!
So now Weenie Todd is pulled into battle by a fellow Gnoblar such is his skill with with the Cleavers "Slice and Dice" he does a fantastic job of carving up the enemy should they venture too close. Having providing only the best cuts for the Slaughter Master who magic now thrums with extra potency, Weenie Todd now is starting to show signs of magical ability though only very slight and minor these sparks of power are growing. Who knows how much this power will grow only the Great Maw can guess. But certainly this is a Gnoblar to watch indeed.
Kind regards Zolas.

I'm not likely to participate in the game but this thread inspired my paragnob hero
Some fun experiments that I'd do differently but lots of fun.

Alright everyone... if you are ready with your Gnoblars here is another way to earn some points in Gnoblar Hero competition... the Junk Pit Arena of Death!! First 15 to get me their entries are in!
So here is my late entry!!! Apologies for the lateness - I have been swamped to say the least. He was actually conceived (created and painted) about 6 years ago so the standard isn't exactly as high as I would like and the photos are AWFUL! Hardly the standard a mod on the site should be setting so apologies for that but the idea should be clear.
Weaklip Craphoarder
Weaklip Craphoarder Weaklip began as all other Gnoblars in the Ogre Kingdoms, violently and humorously. He thoroughly despised his family as do all Gnoblars and schemed and fought against his siblings on a permanent basis. His antics are fondly remembered by the Ogres of Belchfist Beastkillers tribe - he once attempted to prove his value and strength by choosing to fight a baby rhinoxen that was being kept for food by the tribe. Upon dramatically losing the brawl which ensued (the baby rhinox growing tired of gently nudging him away) he decided to attempt setting it loose upon his brothers. This failed miserably; finally angering the beast - ending with a very pleased on-looking crowd of both ogres and gnoblars and a serious concussion that gave him a major superiority complex. At the age of 4 he was proud to announce a growth spurt of 2 centimetres, which he took great pride in, as it put him an inch closer to all the other Gnoblars. From this point he declared himself Greater Groinbiter and bossed everyone around. Fortunately for him, Gnoblars are fearful, spiteful creatures and most obeyed his every command, just because he sounded like he knew what he was doing. Those that didnt obey him, were swiftly shifted to tooth duty with the tribes Butcher. This continued for at least a few days by which point Weaklip began to consider himself both strong and superior, like his Ogre masters (though in truth he was no stronger nor superior to any other Gnoblar!). He held an arm wrestling contest to establish the four strongest Gnoblars in his unit of Fighters, to discover lackeys to carry his newly created palanquin around for him. This he uses every minute of every day, created of broken shields, old skulls and standards discarded by the Ogres and held up with sticks by the Gnoblars; he believes it gives him power over his inferiors and status even to talk to an Ogres gut. Weaklip can generally be seen leading one of his many units of fighters into battle alongside the armies of the Ogre Kingdoms - usually bickering or causing arguments within the unit and causing great mirth when he flees from the least frightening of opponents, even amongst other Gnoblars, who also find it just as hilarious and chase after him mockingly.
