Ogre/Marauder army

original thread ↗

Hello,

I have been browsing these forums for the last few days and decided that I should keep a record of my army progress here.  I am far from a serious gamer or painter - I get a chance to play against my brother once in a while but spend most of my time in the hobby painting while my partner watches soaps on TV.

Planned army shot:

Here is the army in its current painted state:

The initial plan was to do a fairly typical Warriors of Chaos army but I found myself adding a unit of Ogres for my special choice and couldn't stop myself from getting further ogre models including some ironguts, mournfang and a hellblaster.  I know I will be adding to this collection further until the chaos becomes squeezed out and instead sits a decent sized ogre army.
Welcome to the Stronghold! Always nice to see new Ogre enthusiasts join in on the shenanigans on the site! :D

First off, a fantastic idea to combine the two armies. I've also been pondering on the multitudes of possible conversions for Chaos Ogres from our beloved kits, so you're not alone in Chaos :) But onto the more pressing matters, ie. your Gnoblog! :D

The group shots look amazing! I really like that you've got the before and after pics, even though not everything is painted. Even the horde of grey plastic is a daunting force to look at, and the painted one even more so! I can't wait to see the whole set in colour!

And your painting style is very crisp and clean. I like that very much. With Ogres, that kind of style works very well, as there are such large areas to paint in one colour. Messiness makes the model look unfinished, but you've got that covered! :) Also nice to see that the Ogre and Chaos models work very well together. Sure, the Ogres aren't covered in Chaos symbols, but the Ogre models thoroughly embody violence, so it looks amazing! :D

Like I said, can't wait to see the whole army painted up, even if the Chaos side does get a bit left to the side. :P And I'd love to see close-ups of your models as well! Keep it up! :D

You seem to be challenging me for the title of Smiley Overlord with all your smileys
Thanks for the lengthy reply, Loran. There is so much cool stuff on these forums. I have found keeping a record of my painting (and joining the monthly pledge) really helps keep me motivated and have the first addition to my growing force - a giant - perfect as it can be used in a chaos, ogre or combined list.

I would love to get the initial army of greyness painted up before Christmas (preferably sooner).
Always loved me a giant and nice job on the giant. On the note of painting take you time and dont rush yourself. Because sometimes you can burn yourself out so like the saying, slow and steady wins the race. I do look forward though to seeing more of ogres(or chaos) so keep up the good work.

Yeah, I'm in no rush but I am just really enjoying messing around with my ogres at the moment and really enjoy seeing the army come together.  I have completed my ironblaster:

And Butcher:

Any ideas on what to write on top of the sign would be much appreciated.

Then the Gnoblar competition got me thinking of different ideas and probably inadvertently plagiarising other ideas seen I decided to make a few more and before I knew it I had six separate Gnoblars on ogre bases. I have decided that these would work as counts as maneaters with great weapons and full command.  I then decided to do a mini Greasus that would act as my tyrant and a firebelly aka street performer on a unicycle juggling with fire:

I hope to finish painting these up before the end of the month as a bonus pledge.
Loving the gnoblars and the butcher is downright funny and awesome. Good job and keep it up because I can't wait to see all the gnoblars painted.
