MSU Ogres at Convic 2014 tournament

original thread ↗

Hello All,

Here's a link to my fairly poor performance at the Convic 2014 tournament which was held in Springvale, Victoria a fortnight ago.

I tried my hand at running MSU for the first time and thought that ogres had what it takes.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers - Bensome
Great write up mate, thanks for taking the time to do that.  :)

Do you think there is longevity with MSU Ogres?  What would you change about your list if you went in for another try?

Cheers for the kind words.

MSU Ogres is something that i'd like to keep attempting as i had a lot of fun running them. It is quite challenging and gets us Ogres thinking differently.

Changes I would make in my list. I'd probably cut down the 3 units of Gnoblars to 2 x 15 units. I found that with 10, they just don't do much, an extra rank probably would have helped.

I would drop the Yhetees (reluctantly so) to fit a Firebelly in there. Not having any casters probably hurt me in the tournament and the inclusion of a fireball flinger to remove chaff and damage the ever increasing number of elves.

I also feel that If i swap out Greasus for a more standard Slaughter general or choppy tyrant, the army will just flee off the board. Greasus' 18" auto rally is fantastic and his stupidity causing hex is great. He's tough to shift also. I feel MSU is suited to Greasus' rules.

Maybe I could drop a unit of Mournfang and pop in a lone Longstrider hunter.
All worthy points.  I've tried msu in the past and have documented a few games.  I love the concept of MSU but I personally don't have the intellect and patience for it yet.

Under the old rules msu was the way to fight with ogres.
Under the new rules I believe bigger blocks is the way to go, at least for the strike force.

Sure,  use msu for flank protection and as gap fillers but in the games I have played bigger blocks equates to bigger hits and more importantly more wound absorption.

You will almost always strike last against most armies and therefore need extra ranks for strike back.
