Firebelly Tribe

Just bought a new army box of ogres so I have only two boxes for my army.I think I will convert another butcher (I have one converted and painted). I also converted a bull into a Leadbealcher using a Dwarf cannon. So far my army consists of 8 Leadbealchers 40 Gnoblars 1 coverted Butcher (one on the way)    12 Bulls and 6 Ironguts (my previous army box did not contain any Ironguts heads or weapons sprew ( I still have to get in touch with GW) so I am forced to convert 2 Bulls to Ironguts from my newly purchased box. I still have to purchase many other models for a complete army but in the meantime I use my buddy's Chaos models to represent Tyrants, Hunters etc. I also have a butload to paint (for I have only two models painted). So please give me some suggestions on what color schemes to paint them ( their skintone will be a green skin type). Thanks

I'm sure everybody's thinking it, but nothing says big hulking monsters like green skin with purple pants. I nearly went down that route myself!

On a serious note, we might be able to give you some better colour suggestions if you give us a bit of fluf: Why is their skin green? for example. If you want the skin to be the most prevanet part of the model, then keep the clothing subdued, earthy natural colours. they will complement the green and make it stand out at the same time

I have already painted my homemade Butcher, his skin is Timberline Green and I used acrylic paint. And my friends love that skin tone (they said it is what the color of an ogre's skin (in their minds) should look like and I made a good choice of color) that is why the skin tone is going to be green?All the Bull's skin will be that color. But for the Ironguts I need a different skin tone and also for the Leadbelchers. For the Gnoblars I am in a bit of trouble as I see it (40 of the lil guys). Some suggestions for the last 3 units would be most helpful.

I finally got the ogres put together (conversions included) still have to paint and prime some though (still thinking of the fluff). Next I will put together the Gnoblars.

I can't really make out the details in the skin tone of the butcher (at least I THINK he's painted, hard to tell...).  What kind of camera are you using?  If it has a macro function (a little flower is the symbol) than use that.  Also check out this guide to taking pictures of minis

it is hard to make out the details but I like what I see. The Horns on the Butcher to the far left look really good, as does his giant cleaver! Have a look at Dtrik's photo guide though as clearer photos will help us to give you more contructive comments

The horns look good, are they the horns of a standard in the bulls?
I was thinking of doing that to my other butcher im converting also . Nice but you need to get better details!! I can hardly see it its so blurry lol.

And yes Tri, they are the Bull standard horns. If you want to make Giant Cleavers it is very simple and you probably already have the stuff you need- one extra parts of a Bulls swordhand and a plastic orangejuice container (preferably a one and a half gallon container which the plastic is thinker than a gallon of milk container). All you have to do is take the swordhand part and shave the sharp side of the blade flat then carve the plastic from the container into whatever shape of blade you like as long as the bladehand and the container shape meet flush (don't forget to sharpen your converted plastic blade). Then all you need to do is use your superglue to join the parts together, prime and paint. Then nobody would even know that it is a converted weapon. If you need plastic converted parts I suggest using old orangejuice containers, they work pretty well. The Butcher with the horns bib is also made of orangejuice plastic, I just heated the plastic and bent it a little.

The Fluff

They are a small unknown tribe that resides near Fire Mouth in the Moutains of Mourn.
Their tribal name are the Firebellys.They got their name for their skin tone and constant burnteating habits(they like their food well done) and they consider eating uncooked flesh a sin and any Ogre that eats it a blasphemous traitor toward their fire god (they worship the volcano in the Fire Mouth) and therefore they are traitors and are treated as so.
The leaders name of the Firebellys Tribe is Skullgor a glutinous tyrant for he has a bottomless gut that needs constant filling.
Every year after the Great Feast has taken effect, Skullgor takes a small army and hides near the base of the volcano, waits and watches countless other tribes bringing their heretic Ogres (bound and carried) up towards the volcanoes mouth and discarded, and after the other tribes have left, Sullgor and his accompanyists march up to the mouth of the volcano and retrives the fried Ogre with long metal cables with hooks attached to them. Sometimes Skullgor and his convoy retrieve as many as fourty Ogres.
When Skullgor and his companians return to the rest of the tribe they have their own little feast (Nut'en like a free cooked meal, Skullgor always comments after the trek up to the volcano).
The Butchers of the Firebellys Tribe have got the only differtent colored skin of this particulare tribe it is green (some Ogres think that's the reason the Butchers have a resistance to poisons) and the rest of the Firebellys Tribe skin is a redish color.

Nice fluff but i'd really like to see some clear photos and quick!!
Other than that i think your army will be great.

Feuw (wipes sweat off eyebrow), I finally got my Butcher with horns painted and photographed! Also I have a parcially painted Firebelly Irongut. Now only 25 1/2 (painting takes me so long) Ogres left. And I don't even want to think about all the Gnoblars.
I have borrowed a cam. but my Brother forgot to give me the adapter. I'll post the pictures asap.

I like the horns, but I think the giant cleaver really needs to be toned down a bit. It looks a bit silly, as it is almost as big as the model. Its the sort of thing that might look good on a Tyrant, bt not on a Butcher.

looks nice. I'm not a fan of texturing the contours of a base but to eac his own. I do think the top of the base could use a bit of colour, maybe some static grass? It would complement the green skin tone nicely. The Green does work well for ogre skin, looking forward to seeing more of them!

He is a butcher/slaughtermaster so when he wields the giant cleaver he uses both hands but for just packing it around he only needs one.
and I was going to add some snow to his textured base. I have no staticgrass.
But for seeing more of them with greenskin that is not going to happen (atleast for a while). All the other ogres are going to have a red skin tone (hence the Redbelly Tribe), sort of chaos like. I have got one Irongut finished and the skin tone on a couple of the remaining Ironguts. As soon as I get the unit of Ironguts done I will post them. Thanks for your good/bad comments!

Gnoblars are the easy part!! The way i painted them was: All metal done the rusty way as described in ogre kingdoms book. Skin catchan green. Eyes blood red. Tongue a pinkish colour. Shoes if they have any bestial brown. Bandages drybrushed bleached bone. Clothes bestial brown then drybrush heavily with bleached bone. All i did then was dip the whole model in Wattyl woodstain varnish that was mixed 50/50 with metho and was then given a dullcoat. That can be used as a guidline and is how i painted my gnoblars. If you want them to stand out more i reccomend the woodstain and dull coat as it adds shadows to the model and looks pretty good. Look in my gnoblog and that is how my gnoblars turned out.
You don't have to do the woodstain dip as you probaly have never done it but trust me it improves your models greatly . Also you can choose whatever colour of woodstain you want darker colour the darker shadows etc. The woodstain i got was about $15 just 250 ml which is heaps but my dad paid for it . The dull coat was about $8, which was a small can that lasted me 25 fighters 10 trappers and about 5-10 of my bros models so it should be enough. You don't have to do that but it provides effective shading in a very little time One more thing! The woodstain dip you should be able to get at a local hardware store and dullcoat at a local hobby store. Hope that helps.

Now on the note of your skin... Have you been drybrushing your skin  . No offense but it could be improved upon. For skin i suggest doing highlighting not drybrushing lol. Sorry if that was too harsh but drybrushing skin dosn't look the best and highlighting will make your models look a lot better! Same goes with the pants  . Lots of painting to do!

I would like to enter him in the B.B.C. but as you can see I can't take good pictures (I tried to follow the instructions that were gave to me, thanks by the way). My brother inlaw does pictures for a karate mag. and he is going to visit very soon so I'll see if he can show me how to take a good pic.

Have you got a digi camera?
If you do use the macro thing. You can see small details clearly.
If you don't have a digi camera i'd expect them to look like that anyways. I just use my mums and dads digi camera

Got my green stuff yesterday and I converted a old school Chaos daemon into a Hunter (it looked like a chopshop on the table). First time I have ever used green stuff so be nice, also the picture is just a snapshot with webcam, I will take decent pics. when I get done painting him. Boy does that picture suck.

The pose looks cool but that's all I can see, any details are indistinguishable. Im looking forward to seeing a more detailed pic though
