I'm throwing the question to the community, curious to see your opinions.
My current league is a sudo-escalation league, where after every game you can choose one upgrade to relax the restrictions. The restrictions are as follows (modified by my current upgrades):
2400 Points
Army Restrictions:
◾350 points Maximum in Lords
◾350 points Maximum in Heroes
◾350 point limit on a single Core Unit
◾300 point limit in Specials
◾300 point limit in Rare
◾Special characters are allowed as long as they do not cost more than the player is allowed to use
◾4- Levels of Magic
◦Units that cast magic count as their own level.
◦Rune Lords, Warrior Priests and Rune Priests count as a level One (1) magic-user.
◦Units that give power/dispel dice and cast spell(s) count as a level one mage (Hurricanum, Anvil, Casket of Souls, etc.)
◾55 points on any single magic item, including Spites, Blood Lines, Big Names, war machines, Virtues, Gifts, etc.
◾1 War Machine (Skaven weapon teams have their own sub-rule, they may take one Warp Fire Thrower, one Poison Wind Mortar, and one Ratling Gun, before taking another of the same kind)
◾1 Model with the Thunderstomp rule
◾300 points Maximum on Chariot(s)
◾1 Unit with the Ethereal rule
◾Allies: You can take Core units from ONE (1) other army book. Allies are at -1 Leadership, cannot be joined by Characters, cannot use the Generals LD, or the BSB re-roll ability, nor can they be Augmented with friendly spells.
◦The 350pt cap for unit size applies to ally units as well as your own.
◦Only 600 points may be spent on allies.
So, I have 2 remaining upgrades before the Finals (assuming I'm in them), and there are two ways I'm thinking about going with them.
Option 1: I take an additional magic level and another +50 points in Lords, allowing me field a fully kitted Slaughtermaster, along with a butcher/firebelly as a back-up caster and/or hellheart/scroll caddy.
Option 2: I take an additional +50 to Rares and an additional +50 to chariots so I can grab an additional Ironblaster.
For the record, I simply don't have 1200 points worth of Core-models, so I've been taking Allies in every game. Usually Khorne warriors of Chaos, but sometimes Longbeard Dwarves and Quarrellers
