building my tyrant

original thread ↗

so i decided to try and build my own tyrant from almost scratch, using some bits on parts I didnt know how to make.
So I started with a wire frame with bits of sprue to buff out the parts I wanted fatter. I then covered the whole thing in brown putty, doing each piece separately to give the layered look, well at least I hope it worked out.

I used arms from the ogre bulls kit, I cut them and added putty to make them fuller and longer.
I used a black ork hand for the armor and the larger hand. I used the bottom foot piece, I cut it and lengthened it so it had bigger feet to match the rest of the body.

I made a bigger belly plate added shoulder plates. Added a neck and lead belcher head.
I cut a orc bow in half and added it to the belly plate, also added a space wolf tail.
I used a strip of putty to make the top of his pants using my hobby knife to make a torn cloth look.
I also added an ork iron gob and tusks from a mournfang to the iron fist to buff it out.

This guy looks good. You modelling skills look pretty spot on in regards to using putty/ greenstuff.

If you are looking for comments on this guy in the form of critique then I am sure people could offer some.

The human body is made up of proportionate examples of equality. That is to say most things measure up against each other for example;

Your forearm is as long as your foot, your head is (roughly) the same size as your belly, your arms are as long as the distance from your shoulder to your groin and your arms are the same length as your legs (give or take an inch).

This will generally make up the proportions of a human body. Ogres on the other hand are not that well proportioned, probably because they are more fantasy based.

Whilst an ogre's arms are probably as long as their torso, their legs seem to be a little shorter than they should be. With this in mind, the model you have made is a bit "leggy". Even by human proportions the legs look to be a bit on the long side. The head looks a tiny bit too small too.

This gives the impression that he is rather long as apposed to being big and fat.

I feel quite bad saying this, but if it were me I would rather someone said something rather than nothing at all.

It is a very brave and bold move to make a tyrant from scratch; so full marks for even attempting that! looking at the work you have done here there is no doubt in my mind that you have some excellent modelling skills. I would suggest taking a Tyrant model and just looking at how it is proportioned and then try and recreate that in the pose of your choice.

Don't get me wrong, what you have done is great, but it may need a little tweaking to be "on the money"
