2000 ogre list leader advise

original thread ↗

So this is my "typical" ogre list I will be using in my stores next event in a couple weeks. Just a some what normal ogre list with my main preference, ironguts. I'm open to any suggestion about the army as a whole but what I can't decide us the lords and Heros thing. I need some veteran ogres help! First and formost with a fire belly I see a lot of people taking the ruby ring of ruin. I don't get or understand why? Doesn't he already know fire ball? Does this allow him to cast it twice? Is it just to protect him if he miscasts fire all? If some one could tell me that I would be thrilled. Okay next ;) I am very open to figuring a way to fit a tyrant or a slaughtermaster. Now both are really expensive so I'm not sure if they are worth it? I guess what I'm asking is if you where to add a lord which would it be, why? And would it be worth while doing so?

Thank you fellow tyrants for your assistance!

On the Ruby Ring, you cast that with a single dice or two so if it doesn't go off your FB can still cast spells.  Secondly if it does go off then you can apply the Lore Attribute accordingly.

I understand now finally!!! Okay that makes sense with the fire belly! As far as changing out the firebelly though for a lord. What do you tyrants think? I cut 1 group of lead belchera and the fire belly. I than add a lvl 3 slaughtermaster, with glittering scales gruts sickle and dispell scroll. Is it worth it to lose a squad of four lead belchers? Would a SM help that much or could I maybe just use a butcher to support my iron guts? So torn on what to do! Thank you!

The +1 leadership is pretty nice. I'm not a huge fan of magic and prefer the additional ogres myself, but missing that 1 point of leadership really hurts. You could go with a bruiser and a firebelly for the same points as the slaughtermaster (so you would still lose a unit of leadbelchers). That would get you the 8 leadership and retain the firebelly.
Yeah that is always a thing I'm kinda fighting with for points, but arnt we all. That just leads me into think should I consider a tyrant? Or does that mean I should totally cut the fire belly and lead belchers to add the SM. I'm not sure they are just really expensive and I don't want to cut ogres but at the same time I kind of want to because I like the buffing potential lore of the maw has. Thoughts?
I personally wouldn't bother with a level 3 SM, either level 4 or don't bother.  Also your magic items on him is a bit of a concern, you've got glittering scales on him which means you want him in combat to not take any hits and that's where it ends, then you've added Grut's and a scroll so leaving him pretty vulnerable outside of his toughness and 6+ armour save.
