i always thought that even though yeti's had the option to take a champion none of them really stood out as the leader of the pack , most units (bulls/ironguts/leadies/ect) their champions are easily distinguishable either by being bigger or having better weapons or a fierce expression on their veteren face but not yetis. So when my friend said that he had a semi-built scyla anfingrimm model that was missing a head and a couple of spikes for his collar that he was either going to chuck in the trash or give it away my creative juices started flowing and an idea for a yeti king (unit champion) was born, so i took this somewhat tortured headless model off his hands and set to work making my yeti king ....

the scyla model was on its origional 50mm base which is too big for our 40mm yetis and it was fixed to the base with super glue so there was no point trying to hack it off so i decided to cut out the base around the feet and whack him onto a 40mm (which just about fit)

Then i decided that the king of the yetis should have a suitably large and imposing weapon (the yetis have weapons so why shouldnt he) luckily the raised clenched fist of the scyla model was perfect for holding a weapon as the shaft from the ogre standard bearer standard fit very snuggly into the little indent created by the curled fingers i then borrowed a couple of savage orc spear heads from a friends bitz box and after much debate about how many spear heads it should have on (2/3/4) i settled for 2 to keep it simplistic before covering up the rope bparts of the spear heads with greenstuff made to look like the spearheads (but instead of stone they will be ice obviously)

After the weapon was decided it was onto the small problem of the headless yeti king , what could be a suitable head ... so i dove into my bitz box searching for the right head and after being stabbed by goblin spears and pricked with chaos swords i happened upon a resin gorger head ... perfect ... i tried it on with blue tack and it looks suitable fierce , obviously ogre-ish yet vicious enough to be more animalistic than your average ogre

After that it was a simple task of greenstuffing all of the casting flaws and holes and bubbles (aswell as the gaps left by the missing spikes for the collar) aswell as filing off all of the chaos insignia on the model (of which there were a few) and its done ! ...

Well it would be done only i have a small dilema , as you might know the scyla model comes with a badass tail  with an almost dragon like head on the end which was already super glued to the model and base when i got it so i left it on and only when i finnished my rather simple conversion did i realise that yetis dont have tails and i have been debating whether or not to lop it off and cannot for the life of me come to a decission so i decided to turn to the wisdom of the stronghold for help , ill put some pictures up so you guys can see what i mean , but what do you think , tail or no tail ?

I vote no tail. The tail is the biggest/only indicator that this would be a different species to the models he'd be stood next to!

I am tempted to say keep it. (well that's how I voted).

For me allot of what we do and allot of what can be achieved is all about painting. If all your army is grey plastic and resin then; yep I agree with Beasty lop it off, but I don't think an army is that simple.

You can make an ogre look like an Orc just by painting an Ogre green and maybe changing his head. It must then go to follow that you can make a big-ass tailed model look like a yhetee just by putting it in a unit of Yhetees and painting them all the same colour.

This model looks pretty cool; if you paint it the same colour as a unit of yhetees then it will come good (I am sure). Allot of what makes an army look cohesive is the way it is painted and I am pretty sure that this will apply to this unit/ guy too.

If it were possible I would take something from the Yhetee models and put it on the new boy...a head or what-ever, just so they are so interracial that they automatically "fit" together, The painting will then seal that deal.

Just my opinion though.

I could either way with this. I would likely cut the tail off but it does make the pose look much more exciting.

I had voted against the tail personally because, to me, it didn't feel quite like a "yhetee" tail and would look slightly off in the unit as a whole as such an amazingly done model would draw the eye within the unit. Plus, you would have the cool dynamic tail as a bit for when you do something that would really benefit from it or look awesome with it.

However, all that said, I don't believe it would take that much away from the model by keeping it and painting it to blend into the unit. Especially if you have a chaos theme to any of your units or army as a whole then, once again to me, it would work as well.

I know I sort of just contradicted myself, but that is good because it IS ultimately up to you and whatever you think!  :D
Tail off. the thing on the end doesn't fit unless your going chaosy ogre style.  :D

Vote for NO tail.

I think the model looks bad ass for a Yeti King but the tail detracts from the rest of it.  You did a really nice job with the conversion.

Cheers!
No tail and awesome idea and looks. Kudos!

My Campaign Idea: Have a look and feedback!

thanks for the feedback guys this has helped massively (and with a whopping 7-1 victory for lop it off its a pretty obvious choice) now does anyone have any words of wisdom on how i should remove it without damageing the rest of the model or the base (its apparently stuck on with a superglue, plastic glue mix 50/50 dont ask why its just my mates way of doing things :P)

I would just use clippers to get the majority off then shave it down with hobby knife.

If it is a metal model...good question.
well the tail is off and its very comfortable in its new home (my bitz box :D) obviously need to clean up that area where its been cut off , maybe sculpt some fur over it but what the initial reaction to the tail-less yeti king ?

I would have gone with no tail and to be honest it looks like my initial thoughts were spot on! A littel bit of green stuff fur to cover the tail area and some TLC and he is going to look utterly sweet in a unit of Yetis!
 I liked the tail...

it was a cool tail no doubt about that but it didnt fit the unit and it tied it back to the origional scyla model way more than i wanted it too so im afraid it had to go , BUT ! dont fret G_H that taill WILL be making a reappearance in the near future [watch this space] ;)

Looks great without the tail.  A little bit of green stuff fur over the lopped off tail and you are ready for some paint.  Nice job!
Much, much better. Fits your theme better, and as mentioned he ties to the original models re much less obvious with its disappearance! Looking forward to the progress!
