Horny Blokes [Ogres]

original thread ↗

So I've been milling about with ogres long enough and I want to turn that into a solid & cohesive army. With every army I make they have to have some sort of theme. It doesn't have to be revolutionary, just something to give them a little character. So while I haven't really set on any specific theme yet I've been tossing around the idea of making them all horny. Animal horns mind you, not the other kind. Although ogres will always have their lust for food. :D

Theme Brainstorming:
Animal horns, protruding bone structure/spines, Partially scaled, animal teeth.

To start off I have a battalion which I have clipped and cleaned. I haven't started gluing or painting yet simply because I haven't settled on a theme or thought out all of the conversions yet.

Supplies to Make:
20 Bulls
4 Ironguts
4 Leadbelchers
1   Ironblaster
2   Sabretusks
1   Hunter
1   Wolfen Pack leader varghar
24 Gnoblars
Collected Armies:
Iron Warriors
Dark Elves
Ogre Kingdoms
Trollbloods

Sounds like they've ventured a bit too far north and have suffered some mutations.  Looking forward to seeing some models come together.

I figured people would point towards chaos mutations, but that isn't really the feel I am going for. I'm thinking more along the lines of a more feral beastial tribe, evolved to be... i dunno, half ogre/ half beastman kinda deal.

But it's still all on the drawing board atm, so i'm pretty open to change if it comes down to it.

Were-Ogres? Lots of howling at the moon, some on all 4's etc - inspiration from Confrontation's Wolfen.

Oh wow, some of those confrontation models are really nice. I didn't plan on having them full were-ogres but this opens up some pretty awesome conversion opportunities.

Thank you Komone.

Randomly I have a stack of wolfen in my bought for a project and never used box. Probably 8 - 10 guys in bits. Lower torso/ legs separate on quite a few. Will get some pics for size comparison when I dig them out.

So I went on a buying spree at Ebay over the past week or so and picked up a few auctions to bolster my forces.

14 Ogres
1   Ironblaster
2   Sabretusks
1   Hunter
1   Wolfen Pack leader varghar

Not a terrible haul for 80$ USD. I paid nearly as much for the varghar as I did for a lot of 8 ogres, but he is oop and I really like the model so, meh.

Also everything is built except the varghar so I could technically play a game without proxies the moment they arrive. However I will be doing a substantial amount of work on them before I am satisfied.

I will first remove their bases, then I will strip their paint. Then I will go to work with my green stuff and bitz box ripping off arms here and bulking up ogres there. (I will likely need to supplement my bitz box since I don't have the original sprues, gonna be on the lookout on ebay for those).

Bold work here on buying the already built models...hope it pays off.

This army could be awesome if you manage to stick with this concept throughout. I'm looking forward to seeing it develop!

Thank you blechfist. The only issue I have with buying pre-built models is they never come with the extra bits you normally get when buying a pack. Other than that I feel competent enough to dismantle anything I don't like. Although thinking of how much sculpting work I want to do, I think It might be time to get some more greenstuff. :)

The ebay models have arrived! Woo! Now I plan on converting a fare few of these and repainting them, but they will be the last models in my army to be changed since they are already complete.

Nothing like a quick boost to the army size.
The nice thing with your theme is anything you don't like on theses models can be broken off and any thing that doesn't come off cleanly can be greenstuffed into something chaos like.
