What makes for the most fun?

original thread ↗

I am attending a small local tournament this Saturday at 2000 pts.  I kept trying to adjust my standard 2500pt list and have been unhappy as of yet, and I realized it is because I don't want to do a deathstar, I keep coming to the same builds and frankly I am more interested in having 3 good fun games for both sides than I am interested in winning.

That said, what does everyone think they just like playing?  You can post up a list if you have a suggestion, or just throw out ideas to build my army around.  One unfortunate limitation is that I do not have any maneaters, but that is mostly because of how awesome everyone says they are...too awesome for me!
Hunter, on foot, with a sabretusk.  Give him a shield of ptolos, longstrider, and dragonbane gem (and maybe a blood vulture, but that is your call).  You can set up your sabretusks on either flank, then put him with whichever one is in the best spot.  Then, use him to seek out and destroy everything in the flank (like war machines!).

Other good builds: armor of destiny and a great weapon.  Shield of ptolos with a sword of striking or a gold sigil sword.  Gutmaw and a dragonbane gem.

Also fun: thundertusk.  He's a fun bit of support artillery with a great aura.  If you fill up your core with regular ogres instead of ironguts, you are now hitting first against anything that isn't an elf.  Also, a thundertusk is a mournfang's best friend.
Well, fun is sort of relative, but if you want to try something different, why not try a themed list? Go for an ice-theme and run a thundertusk, a couple units of Yhetee's, and a Heavens Butcher/SMaster. Maybe do something silly like Gnoblar-spam (how many 10-gnob units can YOU throw down? :P), or even just a ridiculous amount of MSU (no MI unit larger than 3 models, characters even in one 3-man unit by themselves).

I dunno, there's a lot of ways you can make it sillier, but for the fun factor, that's gonna be up to you!
33 Gnobs! Over 3 Packs of Trappers! Woot!
Gibblet, Nibblet, Crunchybit (from Slaughtermaster achievement)

New book WLD: 20/10/2 - Yay tourney wins and random game win!

At 2k you can field 2 Stonehorns and a Hunter on Stonehorn.

Just sayin'.
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
If it's fun your after, then add a giant! These random numpties make for a fun game because they never do anything you want or expect! While your banging the giant in a list why not go for "big n small" list and add in a unit of Gnoblars. Of course they will flee at the first opportunity, but people ignore or write-off the lil' guys and while they are ignoring them they have failed to spot the sabre tusk sneaking up on their flank.

Giant=fun!

After you grab your sabers, take a giant unit of leadbelchers!  Sure, 10 or 12 d6 worth of shots will make anyone's eyes bug out, but it's actually not that hard to deal with, and it will let you roll so many dice you'll have trouble holding them all to roll!

Rolling more dice = fun :)
Play in all phases, but combat and movement are the most fun phases of the game for most people.
668 The Neighbor of the Beast
At 2k you can field 2 Stonehorns and a Hunter on Stonehorn.

Just sayin'.
Yeah, and though that sounds like something I would do, alas I only have 1!
Let us know what you settle on Havoc for the tournament?
"Nec sorte nec fato"

Ogre Battles!

Tactica: Sabretusks
Tactica: Gnoblars
By my reckoning the tournament was today...so what did you go with in the end?

*fingers crossed and eyes closed; please go Giant, Giant, Giant, Giant......oh, 2 Stonehorns and a Hunter on a Stonehorn  :( *

Can't wait to hear how that Giant got on  ;)

Ha!  Unfortunately, the tournament was canceled... I drove down, waited, but apparently it was a bad weekend for too many of the fantasy players around my area, and enough of them saying they couldn't make it influenced the others.

Luckily, I still got a massive game in (4500pts) and, frankly, I had a blast.  Even better, at that point level I was able to play with most everything I wanted/had with me (there are some things I still want to try, but they were at home on the painting table).  It really was a blast.  Hunter on a stonehorn, Giant, all the big creatures, SM and a Tyrant, masses of ogres.

I wrote up the battle report here:
