Next Purchase for my Ogre Army

original thread ↗

Hey all.

I am a new Ogre Kingdoms player, having just gotten my third game with them under my belt (all wins!).

My group doesn't play as often as I'd like, so despite my paltry number of games, I have been collecting ogres for about 6 months.  Ever since I got into this army, I've been all over these boards, seeing what the experts have to say and trying to take advantage of your collective expertise.

So before I ask my question, I wanted to say thank you!

Here it is, then.  I'm up to around 2000 pts worth of Ogres right now.   I started with the battalion box (12 ironguts (some proxied), and 4 belchers.  Since then, I've added: 1ironblaster, 1 stonehorn, 1 Slaughtermaster, a BSB, 2 sabretusks and a unit of 2 mournfang.

My question is, what should I buy next?  My meta consists of a few friends who play Skaven, Dwarfs and Lizards.  I'm trying not to be a min/max power-gamer, so I don't necessarily need the "optimum" choice for my army.

At first blush, I thought I should get another box of MF, as I'd like to end up with 2 units of 3 whenever I get up to the 3000 pt mark.

I'm also considering just going whole hog and getting another battalion box...though the idea of painting 16 more ogres is pretty daunting just now.

Very interested in hearing what all of you have to say.  Any and all suggestions are certainly welcome!
That is definitely a good start.  I would do one of the following:

Buy another box of MF, as you said.  Mournfang are fun.

Buy a box of regular ogres and convert them all into maneaters.

This! Solid advice right there!

Other worth while investments could be another Slaughtermaster/Butcher so you can dabble with different types of magic. Additionally a Firebelly is a pretty badass character for his cost. He excels at lower point games and is a really effective character in larger point games too. Perhaps some more Leadbelchers as well, they are pretty awesome at clearing chaff units and in larger groups they can prove to be a considerable threat to larger units as well.
Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.

I've considered maneaters in a lot of my lists, but there are so many cool toys in our codex...I always struggle to find room for them.

I just ran MF in my last game for the first time and they are pretty awesome.  Next time I hope to try them with the DHB!

Two units of two mournfang in a 2200-ish point list...how does that sound?

Maneaters are the cool toys in our lists. If you look you will find lots of current discussion about the pro's and con's of Mournfang over maneaters...if you are looking at a 2500pt list then you should be able to have both.

If you don't play as regularly as you would like then this implies that you know what armies you will be facing for most of your games. This will help when deciding how to kit out your army.

The two units of Mournfang will work at the points cost, it does depend what you are planning to use them for in comparison to the rest of the units you have added into the army. I would still feel that there may be room for Maneaters in there, depending on your opponents.

Anyway, the list that you posted up right at the top is excellent! It is exactly what you need for a good core ogre army. All bases are covered for an all-comers list. You can always benefit from more core (of your choice, guts or bulls) and then it's more about what you want for your army or who you will be fighting.

G_H
Don't forget, the Mournfang kit, assuming you assemble them the right way (Hand Wep and Ironfist), will leave you with 2 Great Weapons, an arm with an Ogre Pistol, and a separate Ogre Pistol. Very handy for Maneaters/Ironguts!
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
