Help! 2k all comers list.....

original thread ↗

Hi guys, I'm trying to come up with an all comers list for general play. This is what I have so far, tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tyrant: Giantbreaker, Sword of Swift Slaying, Armour of Destiny, Iron fist 315

Bruiser: BSB, Armour of Fortune, Sword of Striking, Ironfist 184

Firebelly: Talisman of Endurance, Great Weapon, Level 2 196

6 Ironguts: Bellower, Std, Standard of Discipline 293

6 Ogres: Full Command, Ironfists 222

3 Leadbelcher: Bellowed 139

4 Mournfang Cavalry: Full Command, Ironfists, Heavy Armour 310

2 Ironblasters 340

Total: 1999

The things I'm considering changing are:
1. swap the Tyrant for a Slaughtermaster
2. Change the Tyrant's kit to Glittering Scales, Fencing Blades and Talia of Endurance.
3. Switching the Firebelly for a Butcher.

Hope you can advise.
My suggestions:

1) I would add two sabretusks kitties.
2) At 2k, I am not a fan of a Tyrant + FB. I think you will find the magic phase much more enjoyable with a lvl 4 slaughtermaster instead. Personally, I play a lvl 4 slaughtermaster with gruts sickle. Then I can pretty much two dice any spell. Really powerful.
3) I like to give my bsb a 4+ ward save and not any extra offense. I would give him the armor of destiny or talisman of preservation.
4) I'd give your mournfang a banner. Either banner of swiftness or gleaming pennant.
5) If you switch from Tyrant + FB to a slaughter, you will have some extra points. I'd use those points for an extra leadbelcher or two.
Well I'am all up for sending a Tyrant on the rampage but you do only have a 1 x level 2 currently and most will advise a slaughtermaster here.

The main thing is that you lack re-directors.  You need some sabertusks.  They are cheep and really good at what they do, at least 2 if possible.

A tyrant is a pretty bold move a 2k, I would recommend the SM just to get a foothold magic wise. I agree with most of what Nells said. (gruts sickle is nice, but I seem to roll double one a lot)

With a 2k all comers list I think that the 2 Ironblasters is a bit much, take one (because they are really good) but with two ppl will start to hate playing against this list. It's also good to get used to having one of them because in most comped tournaments you will not be able to take two. Will post one of my all comers list here when I get home.
Beardington,

Sound advice from Nells, Zolas and Evoluo
I have tried to keep most of your army the same as possible. Below are two lists I would run:

List 1 – Tyrant
Tyrant (312pts)
Great Weapon, Armour of Destiny, Crown of Command, Dragonbane Gem

Heroes (389pts)
BSB (195pts)
Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Ironcurse Icon, Talisman of Preservation

Level 2 Firebelly (194pts)
Great Weapon, Lore of Fire, Talisman of Endurance

Core (512pts)
10x Gnoblars (25pts)
10x Gnoblars (25pts)
10x Gnoblars (25pts)
9 x Ironguts (437pts)
Full Command, Standard of Discipline, Look-out Gnoblar

Special (450pts)
3 x Leadbelchers (129pts)

4 x Mournfang Cavalry (300pts)
Heavy Armour, Ironfists, Standard Bearer, Banner of Eternal Flame

Sabretusk Pack (21pts)

Rare (340pts)
Ironblaster
Ironblaster

Total = 2003

Pros
(1)   Tyrant’s offensive capability increased with GW and 2+ ward against flaming attacks.
(2)   BSB also hits harder and has a better ward save.
(3)   COC boosts inspiring presence to Ld 10.
(4)   Increased size of main unit (Ironguts). They will be joined by all characters, in 4 ranks and 3 rows. Choice of moving all 3 characters to the front providing a T5 “wall” or relegating the BSB to the second rank.
(5)   LOG added to give more protection to characters and  Ironcurse Icon to give a cheeky save against war machines.
(6)   MC now have flaming attacks
(7)   Added units of Gnoblars and Sabretusk to act as chaff and redirectors.

Cons
(1)   Tyrant and BSB armour save decreased by -1.
(2)   No bellower on the LBs.
(3)   Magical offense and defence weaknesses could be exposed.
(4)   No magical weapons means that relying solely upon FB to deal with ethereal.

List 2 – SM
Level 4 LOTGM SM(385pts)
Dragonbane Gem, Fencer's Blades, Forbidden Rod, Ruby Ring of Ruin

Heroes (359pts)
BSB (180pts)
Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Crown of Command

Level 2 Beasts Butcher (179pts)
Great Weapon, Dispel Scroll, Dragonhelm

Core (502pts)
10 x  Gnoblars (25pts)
10 x Gnoblars (25pts)
10 x Gnoblars (25pts)

9 x Ironguts (427pts)
Bellower, Standard Bearer, Standard of Discipline, Look-out Gnoblar

Special (412pts)
4 x Leadbelchers (172pts)

3 x Mournfang Cavalry (230pts)
Standard Bearer , Banner of Eternal Flame

Rare (340pts)
Ironblaster
Ironblaster

Total = 1998

In comparison to list 1:

Pros
(1)   SM adds a lot more defence to the army through augments than a Tyrant and can regain lost wounds.
(2)   Lore of Beasts and LOTGM work well together through augments. Can still access flaming attacks via the MF unit and Ruby Ring. MF now have flaming attacks
(3)   1Added units of Gnoblars and Sabretusk to act as chaff and redirectors.
(4)   Much greater magical offensive and defensive capabilities.
(5)   Ethereal units pose less of a problem.

Cons
(1)   Ld9 as opposed to Ld10.
(2)   SM has lower S, I, A than a Tyrant.
(3)   One less MF.

Thoughts/comments welcome.
