newbie list help.

so i've been on hiatus since the end of 6th edition, and figured im at a point in my life where i can start playing again. in other words i've ran out of things that require my full attention, so i figured i would give OK a try. i've been trying to compose a list that would allow me to get a feel for the ogres and make changes along the way. after reading some other posts, heres what im planning for my first 2500 pt list. i still need to read the rules a few more times to make sure everything is legal and im setting the army up in a functional manner.

i'd really appreciate any input on the list before i start buying too many more models. thanks in advance.

Slaughtermaster - 385pts
 -level 4, glittering scales, greedy fist, fencers blade (lotGM)

Bruiser - 188pts
 -bsb dragonhide banner, iron fist, heavy armor

Ironguts x9 -432pts
 -full command banner of discipline

Ogres x9 - 318pts
 -standard bearer, champion, bellower, ironfists

Maneaters x6 - 392pts
 - brace of pistols x6, poisoned attacks, sniper, standard bearer banner of eternal flame

Mounfang Cav x4 - 300pts
 -ironfists, heavy armour, full command

Sabertusk -21pts
Sabertusk -21pts
Sabertusk -21pts

Iron Blaster - 170pts

Thundertusk - 250pts

Total - 2498pts

i figured this would be an interesting list to play around with. any major problems and any advice on tactics i should consider with this or a similar list would be appreciated. of course, it will be some time before i can field this army, nows the time to make changes before i go too crazy with the models... i really do love the ogres so far lol.

It looks like an interesting list however some choices aren't 'optimal'.

Slaughtermaster must take Lore of the Great Maw with this list.  What units are the characters going into?

Highest Leadership in your army is 8 which isn't awesome.  Need to slap the +1 Ld banner on either BSB or Ironguts.  I'd get full command on the Ironguts.

Mournfang Cavalry are super tanky with Ironfists over great weapons, get a muso into them as well and a magic banner.

Get some Sabretusks as well pronto.

As Jimmy said some sabertusks for redirecting a cheep and more often then not one of the most effective units in the game.  Just remember to keep them 6 inchs away from your units in case they get destroyed they will panic your main blocks.

So I dropped the number of ogres and added 3 sabertusks, full command to the ironguts and mournfangs, banner of discipline to the ironguts.

I plan on the bruiser and SM going with the ironguts. Now I just feel a little low on troops. Should I drop the thundertusk in favor of adding more ogres? Or does the list seem viable as is? I really wanted to give the TTusk a try.

If you want to give the TTusk a try then leave it as is, give it a few games however against a variety of opponents, don't just get let down by the fact it gets killed first turn in a single game however.
