I like my ogres. But sometimes I just wish that some of the other choices in our book was more competitive (and some less). You want to field those yhetees, but you also want them to perform properly on a regular basis.
What simple point (and other) tweaks would you suggest to make some of the OK units more viable?
I was think along the lines of:
Point reductions:
- Yhetees 35 points/model
- Gorger 70 points/model
- Stonehorn 225 points
- Thundertusk 225 points
Point increases
- Ironblaster 220 points
- Mournfang Cavalry 70 points
- Scraplaunher 150 points
Other
- Scraplauncher uses big template
Me and my mate would do things like this to his OnG's (making orc boyz and black orcs cheaper for example). And just use the point tweaks occationally.
It would really make it harder for me to decide what to bring and make some different lists more viable and fun to play.

I don't know about changing the points costs; it could work if all players agree to it.
The current consideration between me and the guys I play with is the "bring the whole book-afternoon of slaughter" game.
Simply put the idea is to bring one of every unit in your army book (to the minimal number, so ogre bulls would be 3, Gnoblars 10, Yhetees 3, Mournfang 2 etc) and see how they fare against every unit from another book.
The only stumbling block we have all come across with this is quite simply not one single person actually has one unit of everything in their book. I have fallen short with all the characters; No Greasus, no Skrag, no Golgfag, no Bragg, etc.
Turns out that most of the other guys are the same. This does beg the question why these units are even in the army if no one ever uses them. I mean, Gresus...who ever uses that guy?
The gauntlet has now been thrown down between us to get this sorted so we can give this idea a try.

The models are there for the collectors Tom Kirby thinks are the biggest buyers of models for the company. I struggle to see the point in spending $69 on Greasus when he'll just sit on my shelf for the next twenty years but to each there own.
Anything can become balanced if you cost it appropriately, just look at Banner of the Stupid Dragon. Is 50, should be 75 or more. The idea that IBs need to be increased in points is harder to argue now that Khannons do what we can do but with fire, more range a better chariot and for way less points. The whole DoC book is a disaster for internal balance, possibly the worst for it currently. I digress. An example of poor costing is beasts vs fiends, fiends cost more, must be taken in at least 3 and fight worse than the beast where imo their unit size and point costs should be reversed.
Another component is the purpose of the unit we're balancing; is it not taken because of the points or because what it does isn't needed? A good example of this is harpies in the dark elf book, fairly priced for what they do, but with warlocks and dark riders their role is quite overshadowed.
For an example of both look at the once mighty anvil of doom. It went from being an expensive force multiplier for the dwarfs to a bound spell jukebox that has 3 spells, 1 awful 2 ok. The folks at Bugman's even asked if given its current set of rules if it was even worth taking it as a free upgrade and several said no! I could go on forever about the absurd drop this unit took but I think my point has been made.
For Ogres, Yhetees are fall into both camps, we have maneaters and mournfang to be flankers and smaller combat blocks and they are too many points.
Gorgers are mainly hampered by ambush being a mandatory rule and one that limits their use until T3 at the earliest realistically.
Mournfang are fairly priced given the other types of MonCav they have to face down, chicken knights and skullcrushers being the obvious betters.
Stonehorn and T-tusk suffer from GW playtesting telling them that anything with a 6-6-6 type statline should cost 200+ points despite any other limitations the model has on it
Game's the same, just got more fierce.

The thing with Ogres is that we're pretty much in the middle - we're relatively fairly priced. It's that a lot of other armies are either overpriced, underpriced, or both, in varying degrees.
I think our monsters need to be cheapened a little - and Giants a LOT (seriously, 130 points. We'd all take them)
Thunder and Stoney could lose I reckon 50 each. But this is because nearly every GW monster is overpriced apart from Chimeras and possibly the DE ones.
Yhetees sadly need a new ability more than price drops - you need a reason to want to take them.
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?
