The Deamonbreaker Tribe - starter army list 1000 points.

original thread ↗

Here's my first 1000 point lists for the newly emerged Deamonbreaker Tribe. I'm a new WHFB player and as I learn I want to play in all phases so this list has a little of everything - magic / movement / cavalry / shooting.  If you've got any input on this list I'd love to hear it.

I'd have liked to squeeze in a couple of Sabretusks and an Ironblaster but at this points level I wasn't able to.

Heroes:
Firebelly - 205
Level 2
Dispell Scroll
Ruby Ring of Ruin

Core:
6 bulls - 212
Ironfists
Bellower
Standard

Core:
5 Ironguts (Firebelly goes here) - 240
Bellower
Standard
Gleaming Pennant

Special:
3 Leadbelchers - 129

Special:
3 Mournfang - 210
Heavy Armour
Ironfists
At this point lvl the ironblaster really is overkill and he will have very little prime targets.
Love the Firebelly at these lower point levels, that guy is golden! Here is what I would use (keeping your original list in mind ofc)

Heroes:
Firebelly - 207
Level 2
XHW
Dispell Scroll
Ruby Ring of Ruin

Core:
6 Ironguts (Firebelly goes here) - 308
Full command
Standard of Discipline
Look out Gnoblar

Special:
4 Leadbelchers - 182
Bellower

Special:
3 Mournfang - 235
Heavy Armour
Ironfists
Bellower
Gleaming Pennant

1 Sabretusk - 21

1 Sabretusk - 21

1 Sabretusk - 21

Total - 995

I trimmed the fat on your core choices (pun intended) to get some more special choices in there. Might be a bit to many sabres (can hear Jimmy say that you can never have to many sabres  ;)) So you can always drop 2 of them and give the MFC the Dragonhide banner.

Hi Evoluo - thanks so much for the input. Do you think there's such an advantage to dropping the unit of 6 ogres?
I really love the IG and the Ogres. But in smaller games you will want the IG for the disc banner. That thing will save your life when you do not have the points for a bsb.

And I am a little bias when it comes to our special choices, I just really like to play with sabres, MFC and maneaters. And in low point games the MFC really put the fear into your enemy.

Leadbelchers are somewhat odd, love the rules and ideas for them. But they have their good and their bad days. Rolling 6 shots for 4 LB is not a good shooting phase...
Evo is spot on about the Ironguts.  I think if Ogres could take a banner then you'd hardly see Ironguts in a main combat block roll but that's not even worth thinking about.

The only thing that concerns me about adding the DHB to your MFC unit is a few things, firstly they're taking up 25% of your list, I tend to only entertain the banner when they're at least 4 strong, that way chances are 3 will always make it into battle.

Check this out:

FB - Level 2, XHW, Scroll, Ring
6 x IG - FC, +1 LD
17 x Gnoblars - Trappers, Musician
Gorger
3 x Leadbelchers - Musician
2 x MFC - HA, IF, Musician
2 x Sabretusks

Hear me out.  We've turned the MFC into a two Ogre dart so they've gone from being able to dismantle a unit on their own to more of a support unit ideal for homing into a flank.  The Gnoblars are an addition to march at the biggest threat the enemy has (in terms of wounds for DT tests) to cause some trouble whilst under the fire of Fireballs and Leadbelchers who's role remains the same in chaff clearance.  Sabretusks we all know how to use well and of course the Gorger is an inclusion for a few reasons.  Firstly if your opponent has some warmachines or a shooting unit holed up in a corner this can force his hand, secondly with this army you probably should hug a flank during deployment this way your opponent can't flank you on one side and it gives the Gorger two avenues of approach.

Don't like the Gorger then drop that and add in the third MFC with SB + GP back into the mix.  Be patient with the list however and don't make the mistake of letting the MFC march right up away from the Ironguts who will be supporting them.

Hope that helps or at least gives you something else to think about.

Ogre Battles!

Tactica: Sabretusks
Tactica: Gnoblars
Are you really saying to give up a Sabretusk Jimmy  :o!!! ;)

Sorry to say this Jimmy mate, but you are 8,5 points over the 1000 point limit. (I checked it over 3 times, don't wanna make Jimmy look bad for no reason ;)

FB - Level 2, XHW, Scroll, Ring - 207
6 x IG - FC, +1 LD - 303
17 x Gnoblars - Trappers, Musician - 77.5
Gorger - 90
3 x Leadbelchers - Musician - 139
2 x MFC - HA, IF, Musician - 150
2 x Sabretusks - 42

Total 1008,5

Aside from that (just take 4 gnoblars out), I like the gorger in the list. They are not my favorite units because mine always seem to sit back and relax and wait a few turns to wake up (lazy slobs), but they are unbreakable and can be a real pain in the rear if someone does not deal with them quick enough. Adding the gnoblars can be pretty nice, not only for the reasons Jimmy mentioned, but also when you roll the terrible watchtower scenario (although rolling for scenarios at this lvl points seems a bit meh, just go for battleline or meeting engagement)

For me 1000 points lvl is pretty much shock and awe. So I just made up this list:

FB - Level 2, XHW, Scroll, Ring - 207
6 x IG - FC, +1 LD - 303
3 x Maneaters - FC, HA, XHW, Gleaming Pennant, Scout, Swiftstride - 203
3 x MFC - HA, IF, Musician, Banner of Swiftness - 245
2 x Sabretusks - 42

Total - 1000

The maneaters are a bit on the light side, but they are still tons of fun. If you still want some shooting in your army you might be able to find some points to give them ogre pistols, but as a unit of 3 they are better of smashing things. They will have different been there done that rules with guns ofc...

Oke that list was just a wacky idea at 2 in the morning. Hope to hear from you guys tomorrow.

This list is awesome! I would totally run it for 1k.
I'm being an idiot. What are FC and HA on the Maneaters? :-)
Full command and heavy armour? :)
Thanks for all your input, everyone.

Does anyone ever give their Mournfang Cav great weapons or is it more or less always Heavy Armour and Ironfists?

Cheers, Joe.
Always HA and IF. They are pretty expensive so you want them to reach close combat with as many as possible. The mournfang themselves are strong enough so no real need to sacrifice survivability for great weapons imo.
