Wet muddy bases

Hey guys,

I want my guys to look like they are fighting in the driving rain with slushy festival mud underfoot, any ideas/tutorials on how to create this effect?

Also anybody tried to make their models look 'wet' as if they are fighting in the rain?

There are two ways I would go with this, for making muddy bases;

First; bog roll! Toilet paper is our best friend, anything (and I actually mean anything can be made out of it). One of it's better uses is for mud.

Get some non-patterned bog roll, not that gourmet quilted shite, and soak it in PVA glue. Properly soak it! This is very messy, but worth it.

Then apply it to the base and poke it with a stick or tool until it looks the way you want it to look.

The other route is just do your base as normal and add water effect to it.

There is something else though. With the "wet look" thing, just use gloss varnish. It has always worked for me for water, slime, wet blood etc. Works a treat.

Don't buy the toilet paper theory? Ok, I made this volcano entirely out of toilet paper and a cardboard box;




Mind that was 6-7 years ago...I reckon I could do much better now!
