Death of 40K

original thread ↗

Is 7th Ed the death of 40k. With these malefic daemon powers over 2000 pts of free daemons can be summoned before the end of turn 1
If GW doesn't put a cap on the "power dice" in the psychic phase there is going to be a whole load of trouble.
This new rule book seems like a $140 FAQ and me for one are not going to bother unless things change.
While yes the game has become more mobile you dont need to be mobile when you can do this.

I played a quick game against my son today.  Granted neither of us took the Demonolgy psychers, but I found this new edition very playable and fun.  The tactical objectives add a lot to the game.  Makes it much more interesting.

This conjuring stuff may be OP but I think I'll face it before I make a judgement.  Daemon Princes aren't that difficult to get rid of with the proper tools (I'm looking at you Quad-gun).  Would be cool if folks could talk about any experience they get against that.  Also, much like our Magic Phase, the Deny the Witch is much better now.  If you bring enough Psychers to the game you can have enough dice in your pool to deny the conjuring.
My 40k obsessed friends have yet to fully play-test this new rule system, but over the next week they will. They have a good mix of armies; SM, Orks, Nids, Necrons, GK, SW (pretty crap and in need of an update), Tau and Eldar. I have asked them to give me some idea of the rules in 7th.

As it stands at present I am not optimistic, but I am open to suggestion. Sadly it is too late for me as 40k is a bird that has now flown as far as I am concerned ( I have sold all my 40k armies) but I am always interested to see how the new rules pan out.

When I have a bit more feed-back of the lads, then I will comment.

As it stands they have fixed some of then OP stuff such as tau eldar battle brother alliance. And characters joining MC's. After reading the various forums it appears the tournament community appear to be starting to tone down some of the OPness such as a possible cap to the warp charge dice to stop summoning spam.
However these objective cards are still unbalanced as some of the objectives are unwinnable in certain games and something needs to be done. I was surprised to see this self comp as the 40k community in general seems to avoid comp systems in tournaments, leading to some ridiculous combos.
As gnoblar_herder said i'm not optimistic but I may be surprised.

The main problem is that they didn't fix the psychic deathstars (which were the most over-powered), and opened up a bunch of new ones.  Heck, I play CSM/Daemons, and I'm looking at this askance.
It would appear that even games workshop themselves have admitted that the current rules set is noncompetitive.
They have put restrictions on there own events. While it doesn't stop same of the spammy armies it does tell that that GW realize there mistake.
Full set of restrictions can be found here

I have watched a batrep of another 7th ed game whilew this one was alot more tame in terms of lists and powerlevels. It just goes to show how inherently unbalanced the card based objective system is.
