Pantat's Fat Boys!

Hi all,

This will be my first gnoblog but more importantly it will be my first blog of any kind too actually and I am looking forward to showing you my ogre army as I go along and finish it off (and probably others too!).

I will be taking many many pictures of my ogres over the next few days and uploading them on to the rest of this post as a showcase.

Please feel free to comment and tell me what you think of my work - any and all comments and criticisms are welcome!

So my first update is just to show you guys what I have recently completed in the month of May and what is currently on my painting table:

So here are a few pictures of what I have been working on this month:

 (These are the models that I received with a bad paint job on them and I didn't want to strip them or respray them - explains some of the grey on them). Skin is complete on all of them at the minute and the green has had a wash - will carry on with them tomorrow!

I must admit that I am actually very please with how the sabres turned out and am looking forward to getting another one to do it again!

Looking good so far. The Sabres look great can't fault them at all (especially as I have tried and given up painting kitties in the past) the markings are great.

The cracked earth stuff looks good too, I have yet to try this out (though I do have some) question though; does it not flake off at all or is it pretty solid?

The Agrellan Earth has actually surprised me and worked quite well. None of it has flaked off, it seems pretty solid. I've even painted over some on my Malifaux models to make it look like cracked ice and worked quite well. I think that if the cracks are too large by leaving the paint too lumpy then that will cause the problems.
Also, I have gone through almost 3 pots of this stuff already!

Three pots?  How many models is that on? I originally bought it because I was going to use it to create flaking paint on 40k vehicles...but never actually got round to trying it.

I figured that there would be loads more uses for it rather than just doing cracked earth...but three pots sounds a bit extreme unless you have done like 80 models with that.

Ok actually that is not as much as I thought! Problem is ogre bases are so big and the thundertusk took LOADS

Well you have confirmed my suspicions now! If you look at the picture of the 2 sabres, there is actually some dead grass on there but I thought it was too light. The majority of the rest of my bases have actually got rocks on them, but thought that grass would be easier.

Those are some awesome Sabres bud. Really top notch!

Good on you getting that ironblaster blaster all done up too. Its easy for people to look at, but as all ogre players know, they are daunting projects to say the least.

Love those Sabers matey.  They look really good.

Im told Agrellan Earth can also be used to give a sort of cracked skin for thing like trolls or something though I have not seen any examples of this thus far. 

So work I have done over the last 24 hours - basically just finished off all green on the models and painted the metal on and started to rust it up!

The rust is looking awesome; green theme seem's to work too can't wait to see this army come together.

Ok done just a little bit of work on it over the last few days as I have been caught sick by a fever - boooo real life!

My 'maneaters' are just about complete now. Just need to add blood effects and do the basing. I find that eyes are definitely my worst part of a model! Anyone have any easy/helpful tips for improving them?



And the current state of my slaughtermaster/butcher:

I would say that he is almost done as well, just need to add blood effects again and highlight the guts around his wrist a little bit.

I'm going to my gaming night tomorrow and will be take all my ogres with me to get some nice pictures of them all on a decent surface instead of my painting table. Once I do that, I will update my first post to showcase them all.

Also can anyone tell me how to make my pictures smaller?? Thanks,

I'm not too certain ho two make the pics smaller on the forum, but if you have aerogramme like Lightroom, photoshop or even Paint you can relatively easily make them smaller.

However, I don't think you need to make the pics smaller, they're perfect as they are!

Thing is I'm uploading directly from my phone to the photobucket app and then just using the laptop to copy the link over and pasting into here. It doesn't particularly bother me, I just felt they were a little on the large side and that I felt a bit over-exposed with models being so zoomed in! 

I actually like the pictures this size. This way you can easily see what your paint process was. Loving the models, keep up the good work!

Right, I actually managed to win my first game with ogres! Yes! Only been about 10 losses in a row before that haha. Then, like buses, I won 2 games in a row.

Anyway, thought I would post up some pictures of the victorious army!

I used these maneaters for the first time and they are definitely the reason that I won - I will never not take them now I think!
These are almost finished and just need a layer of agrellan earth on the bases and some blood effects to go on them.




Level 4 Slaughtermaster on Lore of Beasts also finally helped me to win (again still needs the base and some blood):




And of course some mournfang to wreck face (need some rocks/grass on their bases still to do):

So as you can see, I've been a busy boy over the last 3 months! Still got loads and loads to paint but happy to say that I have a (almost, give it 2 days or so ) fully painted 2400 points army. Hope you enjoy the pictures and any C&C is welcome!

If I have one teeny bit of advice to offer it would be re the stones on the bases. This is in no way a criticism, but if it were me I would be tempted to give them stone as wash of Agrax earthshade.

Looking at the pictures the stones seem to "stand out" a bit. They are varying shades of grey whilst the earth around them is dry and cracked dusty brown. To try and tie the two things together I would be tempted to make the stones a little more brown-ish so they fit in with bases.

The other way I would consider doing this is painting the very bottom of the stones (the bit nearest the bases) with the cracked earth stuff so the join between base and stone is seamless. This may also have the effect of making the stones look as if they are "in" the ground rather than on it.

Having said all that, I honestly believe this army looks really good, the colour scheme really works and they are a very imposing site on the table...as your enemies are already starting to realise!

I beat lizardmen and then dwarfs, sabretusks and maneaters won it for me both times.

I really enjoyed painting this model actually but I am annoyed that my chaintrap has now broken in transit somehow and will look to fix it at some point.

I need to redo the base, but unfortunately this will probably mean ripping the model off and sticking it to a blank base, as I am unsure how to get rid of the grass and sand otherwise - any tips??




That's basically it for all the rest of my painted models! There are a couple of ironblasters that will make an appearance at some point too as well as some more leadbelchers and a stonehorn.

I'm going to have a go at non-drybrushing these next models (as I have basically EXCLUSIVELY only drybrushed everything so far...) and see how it turns out and you can all let me know what you think too!
