Wolfish Sabretusks

original thread ↗

Hi there,

Basically, the theme of my Tribe is Norse in origin, using names of giants, titans and gods for the names of characters and units in the army.
The only units in the army that I find to be somewhat inappropriate to the lore of the Tribe are the Sabretusks.  I've simply named them the Spawn of Fenris, so as you can assume, I'll be using wolves to represent them.
While the wolves of the Goblin Wolf Riders seem to be vicious, in my opinion, they lack the necessary bulk and energy in their sculpt that a Sabretusk (or its wolf-equivalent should have).
So, I need some ideas to help me choose models to use as Sabretusks.  Again, in my opinion, the sculpt should be energetic, yet bulky, with considerable movement in the model to represent the speed of the beasts.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

Why not Fenrisian Wolves?

Yeah those models are great! I don't like the look of the sabretusks, and the fenrisian wolves look hungry and energetic to me.
Those are what I use
I've been using Fenrisian Wolves ever since I trod on one of my Sabretusks and exploded it into about 7 pieces. They are cheaper, similar size, more dynamically posed and the best part... PLASTIC!! Plus you get 5 of them for roughly the same price as 2 Sabretusks.

Everybody should be doing this!
You guys almost make me feel ashamed of just using goblin wolves from the old wolf rider kit... but talking about price those are winners ; )

Heh, probably should've done my research a little better.
Loving the dynamism of the figures too.  Should fit the theme nicely.

I wouldn't feel bad Joakim, they were going to be my first port of call before asking here :P

Have to agree about the fenrisian wolves as an alternative to Sabretusks, also SpaceWolves Thunderwolf cavalry makes a good alternative to Mournfangs.

Not at all. I have 20 of them between my goblins and my vampire counts armies. And I got mine when they were 25$ for ten!
