Characters and Scouts/Skirmishers

If a character joins a unit of skirmishers, do they lose the skirmisher rule?  Same question with scouts.

I think they actually cannot join the unit unless the character themselves have the rule (either skirmishers or scouts). So, the character has to have either skirmishers to be with skirmishers, or scout to be with scouts.

So, if you're going to put any characters with our Maneaters, you can only give the MEs Stubborn, Poison, or Sniper as their two rules. The character would have to have ItP, Skirmish, or Scout to be able to join that unit. The character would have to have Vanguard or Strider to allow that unit to use the Vanguard or Strider rules, but otherwise the character can still join the unit.

If I recall correctly, that is.

Characters without skirmish gain skirmish when they join units of skirmishers.  This is nice for making wizard bunkers that are (mostly) immune to being wiped out by miscasts.

Characters without scout cannot join scouting units.  Scouts are laid down after characters.  A character with scout will be laid down after scouts, so he can join them.

Skirmisher is inherited by the character when it joins a unit with that special rule.

Scout prevents the character from deploying with the unit with that special rule, unless the character natively has the Scout special rule also.  Scout does not prevent characters from joining the unit after deployment.  A character with the Scout special rule may deploy as part of a unit without the Scout special rule, with the placement of the character occurring at the Scout stage of deployment.
