original thread ↗

Not very good at writing but got 10 days off work so i thought i would start a gnoblog.I have been playing warhammer for about 14 years and have had many armies, empire, dwarves, chaos warriors, beastmen, vampire counts and tyranids in 40k.I gave up the hobby 3 years ago dont know why just got bored and got rid of everything.Big mistake as a year ago i felt the urge to start playing again.Luckily a friend at work was getting rid of some of his armies so i got the deal of the century when i bought his ogre army and skaven army off him for only £50.

I have been busy painting and playing ever since and have decided that i prefer the ogres so much better to play with and alot less models to paint i mean after painting 200 odd skaven it gets a bit repetitive.I have been very succesful with my ogres probably winning 80 percent of my battles. We have a small group of 5 people who play as often as we can at one anothers house.

Currently building a battlefield as well as trying to paint the ogres.I would love to put a few pictures on here but i am useless with computers and have no idea how to do it.Would greatly appreciate any help.

My army atm consists of 16 ogre bulls 11 ironguts 8 leadbelchers 6 mournfang 6 maneaters (converting from ogre bulls) ironblaster butcher/slaughtermaster firebelly and bsb bruiser(converted ogre bull) also have a giant the only model i kept from when i used to play.

Well thats it for now off to mothers for dinner and a few drinks and to watch liverpool v chelsea. As soon as i know how to i will post some pics cheers guys have a great sunday  :D
Eegut and his pack lunch

I can't seem to upload my photos can anyone help with this please? Thanks  :D
Eegut and his pack lunch

What are you using to upload them? Straight from camera/ computer? If so they may be too big (file size). You could add them as attachments (see down the bottom of your "reply" post when you are typing it).

Failing that I would suggest uploading them to Photobucket or better still Flikr and then linking them from there. It's easy enough; copy the direct link off Photobucket and then click on the little picture of the Mona Lisa at the top of the "reply" you are typing and paste the link in. (you can just paste it TBH).

The advantage to Flikr is that the Stronghold now has a Flikr pool so you can add photos to it.

Hope this not only makes sense but is also some kind of help.

G_H
Yes was just trying to upload them from the photos on my laptop as attachments and as you have said it kept saying file to big. Thanks for help will try again tomorrow as i have said i am not the best with computers but will give it a go just off to get some shut eye  :D

Hope to see more from you in the days to come! 10 days off, no excuses :)

A huge fan of the Ogre BSB - I love seeing the older grey skin tone. The metallics on him are superb! Is the rust effect using the new technical paint from GW?

I really like the Abom - the dark, ruddy skin tone is great - given me a nice idea for my two! I've never seen Plague Monks done in a paler colour before, but it looks amazing. I really, really like them. The rest of the Skvane are great - props for having the determination and patience to do them :)

I have awarded you a pet Gnoblar for showing us some absolutely fantastic models :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Cheers for the gnoblar and your comments just-josh

The metallics on him are superb! Is the rust effect using the new technical paint from GW?

No its not the new paint i used dark flesh then drybrush vermin brown then drybrush mecharius orange then drybrush boltgun metal then wash with watered down black i found nuln oil wash made it too shiny then highlight with boltgun metal and finally mithril silver.I know these are old paints but i had them left from when i used to do the hobby they nearly used up so need to get new ones as close to these colours as i can.

I wanted my plague monks to look different and they came out quite good glad you liked them.Very repetitive painting skaven though lol thats why i am doing my ogres now well have been doing my ogres for last couple of months now  :D

Oh..nice! Very nice work there with the BSB! The rust effects on the Ogre dude are excellent and in answer to your question; The Empire guy looks great on the back of the banner! Keep him there as every banner waving Ogre needs a snack whilst laying waste to the armies of the Warhammer world.

Keep up the good work, can't wait to see more.

Clarify for me - is this work you've posted up what you've completed over your time off so far?

Thanks and yes 10 days off is great but its going so quick  :(
I started painting my bsb and ironblaster at the start of april so just been doing finishing touches to them well the bsb still got a bit to go got to paint the empire bloke and add a few more shields too then got to paint tribe symbol on the banner not very good at free hand so gonna practice lots.
I have been slowly painting my ogres since just after christmas before that i was painting skaven like mad but they never seemed to end.I never thought of doing a gnoblog before never been good with computers but was reading lots of other people and was amazed at the conversions and painting so i thought i would put mine up to see what people thought and the replies have been great so thanks to all  :D

I have already painted 14 of my 16 ogre bulls just the back two on the right left to paint and i have painted 5 of my leadbelchers too before my 10 days off i have painted the leadbelcher on the ironblaster this week and the two shields on the bsb the orc and vampire counts one and the armour plate from the stonehorn

just got to paint my 6 mournfang 6 maneaters the ironguts i have done a few but need to finish them started my butcher and firebelly and convert a bull to my tyrant i painted these fences and walls this week

and painted my home made hill i made it so i could put one in each corner or or two together on each side of board or have one big hill in middle of table

and this is my skaven army not painted any of this since christmas was starting to see skaven in my sleep :D

Well thats it for now just gonna have breakfast with my grandson then see how long it is before he tires me out have a great day all  :D
Eegut and his pack lunch

Nice ironblaster, sharp and crisp. Dig it!

YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/Connman613
Holy black death! That looks like a lot of rat scum there! No wonder you are seeing them in your sleep. It looks like allot of work getting them guys painted...puts me in mind of Night Gobbo's but harder as they are more colourful.

The Ogres are looking great. Like the old skool skin tone on your guys and the leadies are looking great.

I really need to put some work into terrain and buildings etc. To date I have done none for fantasy, something that must change and change soon!

I know what you mean about time off slipping away. I had a week off a wile back and as soon as it started, it was over; with only half of the painting done that I had planned.

Keep at it, it's great seeing and reading your updates.

G_H
Well actually managed to paint some ogres tonight once i dropped me grandson off even though he totally tired me out  :D
Painted all the armour and some of the weapons dark flesh ready to build up to rust effect had tried doing it a different way but came out rubbish.Painted the weapons boltgun metal then stipilled vermin brown over them then orange but didnt look good so recoated the armour tonight.Next time stick to way i know less work in the long run  :D

Painted these guys tonight to skin is rakarth flesh then a wash of athonian camo have to do this several times but only done once on these so far trousers are naggaroth night one side and macragge blue the other and dark flesh on all armour and weapons too

now my bed is calling me good night all should hopefully get a fair bit done tomorrow pleasant dreams  :D
Should be having a battle with friends at mine on sat will be using all my new terrain will take some pics if i remember and let you know how it goes  :D
Looking good so far. Looking forward to seeing these guys come to fruition.

Thanks guys will hopefully get a bit more done later. Wife off work today with me so she might have plans.Couple of questions tho while i got time.

1. I am making my maneaters from bulls so dont know wether to paint them same as my ogres or paint their skin all different so it looks like they have come from all different parts of the warhammer world to join my army i am doing 6 of em so will this look stupid or just make em stand out better ?

2. Not gonna do the bases till i have painted all of em first cant think of a theme tho minds just blank i always just paint my bases brown and have static grass just want the bases to really set em off any ideas ?
Lovely looking ogres so far mate, keep up the great progress.

I would stay away from anything very green on your base, if you use flock make sure it's a burnt grass with that red in it. I think gw called it scorched grass. The straight green will steal the thunder of the overall model otherwise I think.

YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/Connman613
More painting done today vermin brown painted onto armour and weapons

also painted the skin on my last 3 leadies well the first coat and a wash of athonian camo

At work atm on break I will post a pic of all that I painted up later when I get home  :D

Could only really happen to me 10 days off and went to work this morning and turned up for the wrong shift lol got there an hour too early but worked out ok in the end the shift i did have was a lot shorter than the one i thought i had so a big  :D

This ogre is hungry just gonna get ready and go out for a chinese buffet eat as much as you like i can feel 4 or 5 plate fulls of yummy food just waiting there for me have a good day all  :D

Will post pics of all that i did eventually paint in my time off later

dtk

Well i am totally stuffed had 5 plates of food and then 6 puddings (really sweet tooth love my puddings)
So here goes this is all i managed to paint in my time off these are all the models i painted or painted part of also painted the hills and the walls and fence

these ironguts were already painted but the armour and weapons did not come out how i wanted so started again have only painted dark flesh so far

these ironguts i painted all in my time off the were just undercoated black before my time off

one coat on the skin and trousers on these leadies

painted these mournfang and 2 of the ogres trousers still lots to do here tho

started painting my heroes and converting an ogre bull into my tyrant first time using greenstuff

painted leadbelcher on ironblaster and finished putting it together

also painted a few shields on the bsb

this is my favourite irongut so far really happy with way armour has turned out

need to start concentrating on one thing at a time now i think  :D

dtk

Loving that line of mournfang. Never forget how scary is for an opponent to see. Everyone in my gaming group shut their pants when 2 are coming at them. Can't imagine 6

Trouble is i fight 2 mates who both play orcs n goblins and they both have 2 doom divers and they love targeting my mournfang :(

Had a great day at work today do you ever have one of those days where everything goes well and every one you meet is polite well thats what happened today. I am a bus driver by the way and am used to people just being rude to me and getting cut up by other road users but not today i had to pinch myself too see if i was awake lol.
Back to my painting now got to try and finish one thing at a time but i cant seem to do it also need to think of how i am going to do the bases but minds just blank atm.
Rummaged through my loft last night and found my old ps1 with a few games had a quick play on parasite eve and resident evil cant believe it still worked
Well no pics today cause no painting done have a great evening  :D

dtk
Awh that damn artillery. I am blessed with the fact that my gaming group doesn't actually use that much of it. If they did I would have to drastically change my strategy. I could never get away from the mournfang though, love them too much fluff wise and play wise.

YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/Connman613
Not much painting done today just painted vermin brown and orange on the armour on these ironguts

and started adding bit more detail to trousers and boots

have great evening off to sleep early start 5 am  :(

dtk
Why is it when i am at work i can come up with all these great ideas for my ogres while i am sat in endless traffic but when i get home i have totally forgotten or they dont come out nowhere near as good as i imagined them to be.
Well off to get me grandson today and going to millets farm to see all the animals and feed the ducks just hope it doesnt rain too much. Then to me sisters to see her new dog she just got her second springer spaniel so its total bedlam up at her house atm.
Maybe a burger king for lunch supersized of course.Need to get some greenstuff so i can start doing my maneaters so many ideas and i am running low on paint too.
Four of my mates are at warhammer world doubles this weekend so good luck to them they are gonna keep me posted 2 are savage orcs and the other 2 are high elves and dwarves.
Have a great weekend all happy gaming and painting or whatever you are doing  :D

Not much painting done this week but been concentrating on doing the bases.Got some bark from nearby woods and have been letting it dry for a week now

cut it to fit bases

painted black then drybrush grey got a few more coats to do and add grass and maybe few creepy crawlies aswell if ii can make em

trouble is i got to now cut all the ogres off their bases to put em on new ones and try not to cut myself as i nearly always do but all the extra work will be worth it i think

gonna try and make some pools of water in the rock work aswell has any one got any ideas how to do this help greatly appreciated thanks

dtk
Save some of that bark and enter my competition in the coming weeks. Could win you some gw supplies and a Bragg the gutsman. :)

YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/Connman613
The bark basing looks great! I did not think it was that easy to make such basing but it is! The tyrant looks awsome too, love all the spikey bits.
If you are thinking of putting pools on the base I would build up a "ring" of greenstuff to contain some liquid resin/ water effect to make sure it doesn't just run off before it drys.

If you are thinking of putting pools on the actual rock (bark) then that is slightly harder; because it's harder to create a pool which you can fill. You could just build up layers of gloss varnish. Rubbish edges to this can be covered with snow/ mud/ stones etc. Failing that it might be worth thinking about the pools when choosing the bark pieces that you are using so as to ensure that there will be something that the water effect will be able to sit in and set....or again, gloss varnish could work.

Don't know if that helps at all.

Tried my hand a making a fur cloak out of green stuff for my tyrant

not a very good picture i know will try and do a better one soon.
Also got 3 leadbelchers on new bases now i wish i had thought of this before i stuck them to their bases they look so much better now than before as you can see from next 2 pics a before and after

gonna concentrate on doing the leadbelchers and finish my tyrant and see how they look when all on new bases got to learn to finish units before i go onto another cause nothing seems to be getting finished.
Well i am back off to work now just had a 3 hr break another 5 and a half hrs to drive then home for a ice cold beer  :D

Cloak turned out ok will see what it looks like when i paint it.
Just got in from a game at mates house 2000 pts v orcs and goblins here is list i used

Slaughtermaster lvl 3
Firebelly lvl 1
Bruiser bsb

15 x Ogre bulls FC IF
6 x Leadbelchers
3 x Mournfang Standard Bellower IF HA
Ironblaster
Stonehorn

dispel scroll on slaughtermaster and bsb had banner of discipline

V

Black orc warboss
Goblin shaman lvl 4
Savage orc bsb

30 x Goblin Archers with netters and 3 fanatics
35 x Black orcs
35 x Savage orcs
2 x Mangler squigs
Doomdiver
And that bloody big spider thing they got too think i got numbers right here but have lost list somehow but its close enough

Very good fun game lost stonehorn and mournfang by 2nd turn spider killed mournfang and mangler killed stonehorn but horde of ogres with all 3 heroes in turned game round and killed savage orcs then goblins then ironblaster killed spider and they both charged black orcs managed not to kill a single thing with 4 rounds of shooting with my leadbelchers dont know if thats some sort of record lol but a win is a win so happy  :D
Sounds like a bloody mess! Losing a stonehorn and a majority of your mournfang I. Turn 2 is never a good start. Glad you came back from it. People forget often that it's the ogre block that is truly the scariest thing on the field

Cheers buddy.
No painting today just getting ready to go watch mates band playing at local pub so lots of beer and loud music perfect night out.Have a great weekend all  :D

dtk
Had a great night out last night had a few too many beers so nice relaxing day today once headache went away did a bit more painting and made some more bases stuff coming on quite nicely now.

FIrst lot of ironguts on new bases

First 6 ogre bulls on new bases

All 8 of my leadbelchers on new bases now 3 just need a bit more doing then this unit is finished

Fisrt mournfang on new base still lots to paint on this just wanted to see what it looked like on base

and managed to get the 5 ironguts and 6 bulls off their old bases without cutting myself   :D

dtk
Rust effect is looking good on the first models, the metal on them is looking really good. You seem to have them bark bases on lock now, so they are looking great.
Interested to see more of the Mournfang as I have a bunch of them to do and any inspiration is always useful as they are not my strongest point, painting-wise.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers G_H i am very happy with rust affect on ironguts and will put more pics of mournfang up as i do em got 6 in total so its alot to paint :D
This sat got a few mates coming to mine to have a few games one will def play OnG one will play dwarves or high elves depending on his mood lol if hes grumpy as usual the dwarves will be out and the other player is trying to do a wood elf army but will be proxying the models before buying em so i will try and do a proper battle report for at least one of the battles and we might have a 4 player 2000 pt triumph and treachery game if we get enough time. :D

Quick question does the skin look better on the irongut or leadbelcher the only difference is leadbelcher has an extra wash on it

cheers

dtk  :D
Managed to get some more bulls onto new bases today and add some grass  :D

got told off though for using my wifes favourite knife to cut em off old bases   :D

dtk
Wow, the question you asked ( which painted model is better) is really, really hard to answer.

I would say that the leadie is better. The gut looks more solid but the wash really adds some shading to the model (and that kind of dirty look) which I think works really well.

I may be tempted to just use the last colour you used (before the extra wash) just to highlight the most raised bits; very peak of muscles, eyebrows, lips that kind of thing. They don't need it mind, but that would be me.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

The next lot of bulls on their bases are looking great. With all these bases complimenting the army you can really see them coming together...their opponents with be pooping in their shorts when these guys rock up to the table...can't wait to see more of the MF Cav.

G_H
Cheers G_H i prefer the leadbelcher too cause skin looks more dirty the irongut looks to clean and who has ever heard of a clean ogre  :D

Put another 4 ogre bulls on new bases last night the command group

i like the way they are all slightly different hieghts and some are at slight angles makes em look less uniformed more of a rag tag bunch still got another 8 bulls to do but am probably gonna make these into maneaters.

Put another 2 mournfang on new bases too

still lots of work to do on these guys and another 3 to put on new bases too will prob try and finish these in junes painting challenge and finish my 3 leadbelchers too.
Looking forward to sat as mates are all coming round mine for a big battle hopoefully will be 4 or 5 of us so lots of carnage and lots to eat for me stomper crew  :D

dtk
OK i thought i would take stock of where i am atm with my ogre army and what i have left to do and some ideas i have .

Really happy with the way my bases have turned out gonna buy the lizard men jungle swarms and use the snakes and lizards from them to add just a little extra to the bases a bright bit of colour also got some giant rats i can use too and on other bases will put some shields and broken weapons and maybe a few severed heads.

So got 6 ironguts to put on new bases now and finish painting all 11 ironguts , 3 more mournfang to put on new bases and then finish painting all 6 of em ,got 3 leadbelchers that need a bit more painting bsb is now on new base too.

This leaves me with 8 ogre bulls to convert to maneaters got lots of ideas for these some from looking at other peoples gnoblogs so here goes with what i want to do going to do a dwarf slayer one a viking/marauder one a goblin fanatic one a scottish one an empire knight one an orc one and skaven one.

Next i want to  build an ironblaster from my screaming bell that i have never built and have it being pulled by the rat ogre or 2 will have to builde the canon from scratch and was gonna use the bell for one end of the canon so you can see it will be a huge cannon but will hopefully look cool.

Also my mates and i want to build our own monsters out of whatever bits we got and i have a few ideas of what i want to do.I have a giant that i am never gonna use so i could put him on my thundertusk/stonehorn or maybe put a gnoblar launcher on the thundertusk/stonehorn actually gonna make it throw gnoblars a bit like a doom diver but mobile or maybe build a gnoblar scraplauncher on the giants back trouble is i have all these ideas but never get round to it thats why i have put it here now so ive got to start it but need to finish all my ogres first any ideas of what else i could build please feel free to say.

We are limiting it to 500 pts max and we also have to make up the rules for them too.I did originally post this idea some where else but decided to put it here to keep all my stuff together well thats all that i have got planned for now plus i am maybe gonna buy the arachnarok spider to use as a stonehorn after seeing some conversions done using this model well thats the next year of my life planned out lol  :D

dtk
Lots to digest there!

First, good luck with this epic war at the weekend. I hope that your ogres perform well and smite these lesser realms. If I could make one suggestion it would be to implore you to take some photos. The one thing that can really translate when describing a tale of conquest is actually seeing the table (nay battlefield) and seeing the fatties lines up against their (often grey plastic) foes!

Onto the ideas. I like the sound of the converted bell, I would suggest thinking about base size though just in case you ever play any games outside of the circle of friends you have. I am not exactly sure how big a screaming bell base is; but I am pretty sure it has a base all of it's own, which means it isn't the same size as a standard base for a stoney or tusk etc.

I love the idea of the giant carrying the scraplauncher. But then I love giants. I honestly think it is one of the best and most convertible and diverse models GW makes. Which does beg the question; Why will you never actually build a giant with the kit/ for your army? They are super fun to play, on the grounds that you set out with the idea that it wont do anything you want it too and is not worth it's points unless you are happy to use points for a "fun" factor. Then it is worth more points than it costs!

You could just convert the giant to be holding the Ironblaster cannon and this way he could count as an Ironblaster ( and with a magnet or two in his feet) also count as a menacing giant if you pop him on another base.
A 'tusk with an Ironblaster mounted on it would be cool and could still count as a 'tusk in friendlies.

Finally, Mournfang looking good so far. I am liking the bases you are doing there and agree that the varying heights of the ogres does add to them. This is something I need to think about myself as mine do look a bit static and "flat" base-wise.

I have only recently started contemplating making better bases for my ogres so your base work is giving me inspiration and ideas to try and improve upon my own.

All-in-all looking good so far. New ideas/ projects sound exciting if you do get round to doing them. But "pictures" would be my word of the post....get some good pictures of the games you play, we don't 'alf love 'em here!

G_H

Yes as always i have lots of ideas  but not the skill or patience to do them but thats why i have put here what i want to do so its here to remind me and hopefully as i start some feedback good or bad will help me carry on and do it.
The reason i dont use the giant anyway is its all ready built as a chaos one and every time i did use it in the past it died not doing a thing.
Will def take some photos this weekend of my battles and try and do a battle report too it just adds so much time to the game but hopefully mates can help out here too if not i wont feed em or give em a beer lol  :D

dtk
If it helps at all; when I have taken photo's of games in the past some of the "better shots" were actually taken after the game.

Whilst this is a bit of poetic licence, it does mean that the photo's can be set up to look really good, but also convey what was going on in the battle. Someone reading the bat rep wont know the difference and it does help to get a good shot, close up, of all the action...but this time without the dice, tea cups, beer bottles, pizza boxes, rule books, tape measures etc scattered in-between all the models!

Just a thought. I have never had too much problem getting people to re-set a challenge or scene as they tend to want their models to be shown in the best light. This sort of photo, mixed in with some real in game shots tend to work well, if your mates are up for it.

G_H
Thanks for all the tips G-H will try and get lots of photos.
Only 2 mates coming now and both are OnG but will still be fun the table is set up ready and i am having a large ogre breakfast.
Have a great weekend all happy gaming painting or whateva you are doing  :D

dtk
Ok had lots of fun today played 2 games against OnG and somehow won both so really happy have written some notes on first battle and taken a few photos but not got time to post now so will write up a battle report with pics tomorrow and then give a quick summary of second game  :D

The table set up and ready for war

Set up of armies complete
From left to right there is a doomdiver behind wood then large block of black orcs then the goblins then savage orcs with a mangler in front then the big ass spider then another mangler with the other doomdiver just behind

The view for my enemy
From left to right 3 mournfang then a sabretusk then 6 leadbelchers then 15 ogres with all 3 heroes in then sabretusk then ironblaster and finally 3 mournfang

i roll a 2 4 5 for magic i keep trollguts and bullgorger and change braingobbler to spinemarrow no point keeping braingobbler with all those frenzied and immune to psychology units and fireball on firebelly of course

orc player gets ere we go and foot of gork  for so shaman and goblin shaman knows all the spells

I go first move everything forward.Fireball at a mangler he dispells it cast trollguts on big ogre unit and bullgorger too.Shoot the leadies at mangler get 19 shots only cause 1 wound woo hoo great start.Ironblaster aims at mangler overshoots and hits the spider and takes of 4 wounds now thats more like it

Orcs now passes animosity moves one mangler 8 and one 9 forward and black orcs turn to face mournfang. Casts foot of gork double 6 kills 1 leadbelcher takes a couple of wounds on his unit end of magic phase.
Shoots sabretusk with gobbos it takes a wound and the gobbos on spider miss.Doomdivers aim at both mournfang units one misses totally and the other deviates onto the sabretusk killing it

turn 2
Charge mournfang at spider and they make it.Move sabretusk to 8" from gobbos and out come the fanatics which kill it poor kitty.Move other mournfang forward 3"to hopefully charge next go and big ogre units moves forward 3 and now has 3 fanatics in front of it whoops.Fireball kills one mangler and spinemarrow cast on mournfang in combat with spider.Shooting leadies kill other mangler 14 shots gets 3 wounds and the ironblaster kills a black orc. Combat mournfang beat spider 2 impact wounds caused no wounds too either side in rest of combat spider passes test and stays

Savage orcs fail animosity and have to charge mournfang black orcs attempt to charge other mournfang needing to roll 10 but fail one fanatic goes thru big ogre unit kills an ogre.Casts poison on savage orcs. Shooting gobbos take a wound off the ogre bulls both doomdivers aim at mournfang one hits one misfires and cant shoot kills one mournfang and yes you guessed it they flee. Combat spider kills a mournfang savage orc bsb kills a mournfang last mournfang aims all attacks at shaman on spider and kills him yay then savage orcs kill mournfang and overrun 7 "

turn 3
Charge ogres at gobbos but fail miserably only going forward 4 but thankfully miss the fanatics mournfang carry on fleeing only 2" from edge now . No spells go off rolling really bad but shit happens i suppose. Shooting the leadies kill the spider 14 shots 5 hits 2 wounds and its history and ironblaster kills a black orc omg how many ones am i going to roll today

Savage orcs fail animosity again and roll a 6 so have to turn to face nearest enemy and charge goodbye  leadies fanatic goes thru ogre bulls no wounds. Casts re roll to hit on savage orcs. Shoots ogre bulls with gobbos and they cause 2 wounds both doomdivers aim at ogres too and cause 2 wounds. Combat unsurprisingly the savage orcs beat the leadies by 10 and i run 6 he chases 2

turn 4
Charge ogres at black orcs thru a fanatic causes 5 wounds and ironblaster fails charge at gobbos rally leadies and mournfang no spells go off and i win combat against the black orcs by 3 he passes test and stays

Savage orcs charge leadies gobbos charge ironblaster casts ere we go on savage orcs shoots both doomdivers at mournfang takes 1 wound so no panic test  :D . Combat he wipes out leadies and overruns 8" and yes you guessed it gobbos beat ironblaster and it runs away and they catch it ogres then beat black orcs he runs away 8" i chase 6"

cant find photo for this turn

turn 5
ogres charge black orcs and catch em so all dead no magic goes off and no shooting left

savage orcs quick reform and move towards middle of table he says hes got a cunning plan he moves gobbos slightly so they can see mournfang . Casts big foot of gork on 23 and i luckily dispel it with double 6 gobbos shoot mournfang no wounds caused

cant find photo for this turn either maybe got to caught up in the fight i forgot to take it  :)

final turn
mournfang charge gobbos ogres turn to face doomdiver gonna try kill it with fireball it doesnt go off what a surprise but i cast trollguts on ogres mournfang beat gobbos they flee i chase end up 4" behind them

gobbos fail rally and flee thru fanatic 3 die savage orcs move forward he casts big foot of gork and it kills 5 ogres wow i hate that spell but luckily it doesnt go off again and i pass ld test thank god. Doomdivers both aim at mournfang and both hit causing 4 wounds last mournfang passes ld test and that is game over

this is all thats left plus another doomdiver

i get 1221 victory points and he gets 735 victory points so in the end i think it came down to the massive unit of ogres being so hard to killbut if foot of gork had gone off once more he would of won but thats life and a victory is a victory wether its by an inch or a mile  :D
The second fight i used same army list and heres the other OnG list :

Orc warboss shield on a wyvern
Savage orc great shaman lvl 4
Savage orc big boss xhw
28 x Savage orc big uns xhw stand mus
44 x Night goblins 3 x fanatics netters
27 x Black orcs shields stand mus
Doomdiver
Mangler squig
Mangler squig
Arachnarok spider

Did not make a battle report or take photos on this one we just thought bugger it and charged at each other to see who would win.I did win i had leadbelchers a sabretusk and the big ogre unit left and all that was left of orcs was bout 20 goblins. Game did start really badly tho when he killed 6 ogres with big foot of gork i really am starting to hate that spell as much as their doomdivers. Best unit in game for me was leadbelchers they took a charge from the spider and won combat and chased it down. He charged my big unit of ogres with his wyvern and the savage orcs but only wyvern made it and the ogres won combat and it ran and i caught it too we did not use many tactics in this game it was just a fun fight  and once again gobbos killed my ironblaster :D

For reasons known only to the gods of chaos, I read this then failed to comment! Duh!

Excellent bat rep. Pictures look great and really add to it; so how did you find the O&G army overall? They are very random so this should add to the fun of facing off a greenskin horde!

Cheers G_H i enjoyed doing it even if it added extra time it was worth it. As for facing O&G they are the army i fight most 2 of mates play em but we only usually do 1000 pts so was a nice change to play a bigger battle and i have won most times usually due to something going wrong for them lol but as you say that makes it fun they are so unpredictable. :D

dtk
Finally finished my leadbelchers once whole army has been done will add a few things to the bases

Next to paint is these three mournfang my june painting challenge

Started on the one on the right done some more detail on the fur and repainted the head a darker colour and patches of skin

Cheers MAVV heres a picture of the brush next to the ogre cant remember where i got it from but its got a 5 on it hope that helps

i used a bigger brush because i did not want to be to precise which could of looked a bit false so i just loaded up the brush and just went where ever the brush took me and any mistakes sometimes just look better  :D

Cheers buddy yes the blood does make so much difference my army is quite dull coloured to some of the amazing ones on this website but that was the look i was going for still a few more things on bases too  :D

Nice work.  :)  Love the colour scheme on the Mournfang.

Cheers Jimmy yer the mournfang looks a lot better than it did in the first picture i was lazy and just drybrushed it but then decided to go back over it so painted all the fur grey as carefully as i could then all the edges white it took along time but worth the effort  :D

dtk
Got man flu feeling like shit but still did a bit today.
The last six bases for the ironguts waiting for some big fat ogres to step on em

and here they are thats all my ironguts on new bases now

all i have got to do on these now is finish the banner  :D

dtk
Those bases really do finish the Ironguts. What colours are you using for the blood effects? It looks really nice this way, not too much and not too less blood on them. Keep up the good work!

Changing the subject a bit at work today a bloke got on my bus who looked like gandalf he had very long white hair and beard so as he got on i took my wedding ring off and held it up to him and said i have kept it safe and he just said f--k off you twat how rude lol  :D

Some people; no sense of humour!

G_H
Yes some people have got no sense of humour i do try my best to get people to laugh when they come on my bus but most of the time its wasted but its worth the effort when you do finally get someone to laugh and start their day well  :D

All skaven and ogres and battlefield now sold just come on to say thanks for all the help and encouragement you have all given while doing my gnoblog i dont think i will be coming back to warhammer im not gonna bore you with the reasons why and how this happened but i am now looking for a new hobby and i am tempted to buy a wooden model of hms victory and attempt to put it together enjoy your gaming guys so long  :D

dtk
Looks like i cant stay away lol even though i have sold everything i am tempted to come back and maybe just buy a box of ogre bulls and see where it takes me. Might of been a knee jerk reaction to sell it all but was let down by some very close friends and family who where all my playing partners so if and when i do start collecting again it will be just to paint and convert models that was the side of the hobby i enjoyed the most.Going away for a very much needed holiday to egypt soon so will wait till i am back to start again.Think i will write a short story about the demise of my ogre army, maybe a lone ogre survives and vows to take revenge and that can be my inspiration for starting again life is too short to not be doing the things i love because of other people

dtk :D
I have to say that I for one, am really pleased to see you back again! Seriously I loved your last incarnation of the Ogre massive. A new one would be another epic build, especially as you will have learnt so much from the army that preceded. Also, you have the opportunity to make each model within the new army a little unique or individual as time may no longer be a factor (if playing games is not the goal). A completely individual and totally converted army is always an amazing sight!

If you need anything to get you going again, PM me and I will sort you out mate, honestly, don't be afraid to ask if it's in my power then it's yours.

It is often the case that in life we have to step away from things (often everything) to find out what is important. Truly important. It's a valuable lesson that is often hard learned. I hope things improve and your future path is a much brighter and more enlightened one.

Really pleased to see you back mate.

G_H
Cheers G_H kind words as always.  :D
Got my holiday soon then when back i will start anew. Have not thought of a theme yet but there is no rush maybe when i am away sat on the beach drinking cocktails it will come to me but there is no rush this time. Gonna take it nice and slow it might even just be one model a month but that just means i can really go to town on them.

dtk  :D
Been busy thinking of what theme i am going to do for my ogres got several ideas but need to think of something that i will actually be able to do but i wont be starting till end of sept and will prob just buy one box of ogre bulls to start with.
Here goes with some of my ideas
I love the film zulu so thought doing them as the british soldiers but trouble with this idea is the rifles and how to make them.
Also love anything to do with the Romans the bulls and ironguts would be normal rank and file romans bulls with shield and spear/sword and guts with two handed swords and axes then i could do maneaters as gladiators all armed differently and maybe have heroes dressed like the senate.
Another idea was to do them all as people from horror films ie freddie, jason, frankinstien, dracula the list goes on (could be a crazy halloween party theme)
all the above are great but nothing to do with warhammer so if i wanted to keep it in the warhammer world i would like to do them all as savage orcs but with a bit of comedy got a few ideas here but dont want to spoil it if i choose this option
or do them all as dwarf slayers
or chaos got lots of ideas for this too but need to know my limits on converting but as i will have all the time in the world cause not playing just painting for fun now

dtk  :D
