Bullgryn/Ogryn usage in OK

What are peoples thoughts on this?

We have a giant thread discussing models that have potential to be used within Ogre Kingdoms as versions of Ogres, but what about the new releases from 40k?

I think with some conversion the Bullgryns could easily be used as Ironguts, especially in a themed army (such as Ghark Ironsking/Chaos Dwarfs/Skaven/Dwarfs/Empire). Simple arm swap to get rid of the gun (conversion required on the shoulders) and get rid of a few insignia...could be cool, no?

Regarding the Ogryn models - they make obvious Leadbelchers, but again with e a few weapon swaps etc, they could be used in a variety of ways. If you haven't yet seen the models - look here:

Is anyone thinking of attempting this general awesomeness?

Haha, you'd basically be playing Ogres. I mean sure you'd lose, but...so do Ogres You'd even have a special character! WIN!

I plan to have a go at using some of those mask-less heads in my Ogre army, see if they fit in OK with the Ogre heads.

Nork's head is pretty characterful, could make a decent Leadbelcher with a minimum amount of work:

The heads and boots are certainly more inspirational than the ogre ones! I am not so sure on how to make the body parts work but it got potential! : )

Those boots certainly do look better than the shoddy ones we have to make do with. Putting his arm with the knife into fantasy wouldn't look too out of place if you mangle the armour a bit

I am sure I will be using some of these models to add into my chaos dwarf army and as such they will work as Maneaters as well. I know I can do something with these guys and some greenstuff given the chance!

For the most part, too thin for my tastes, but there are some key bits scattered in the kit I can see myself using.

OK converts over to 40k really easy, easier then any other fantasy army.

Iron Guts, and Bulls stay the same, more or less.

Bulls with ironfist gain 6+ Inv, Ogre Charge Rule still gives impact hits. They exist in 40k just are RARELY seen. Gain furious charge or some such to compensate for the lack of rank bonus.

Iron Guts get bumped up to 4+ armor (Standard 'heavy' armor in 40k) and they are done. Not as scary due to the difficulty of getting them into an assault.

Gnobblers, no change at all needed, and in fact become more useful as a shooting screening force for Ironguts.

Mournfang Cav... 2+ with 6+ invul, no shooting, or 3+ with a pistol. Big model, sounds good to me.

Ironblaster: Str 10 AP 1, 1 shot, reroll 1s, 48 inchs, Chariot.

Scraplauncher: This is harder, but same template size, just strength across the board. AP 6

Leadbelchers Str Four, Assault, AP5, d3 instead of d6 shots.

Maneaters are easier to manage, just convert ogre pistol into effectively a bolt pistol, and done.

Butcher/SM become Psykers, level 1, and 2 respectively. Divination, Telepathy, and Bio

Fire Belly: Pyrokinetics

The big beasts become MCs and pretty much remain the same.

I think they'd be viable as well. Although I think power would shift to the Bulls over Iron Guts, with the Bulls becoming a tar pit to keep Leadbelchers and Maneaters out of combat so they can shoot up stuff.

I have actually begun a conversion, I will gladly open the Google Doc for viewing if people are interested. I am just doing a one for one conversion right now, which I think will work ok. Although Ogres are going to get shot to hell, to big for most cover, and no armor :-p

@Nemo: Would love to see a 40k ogre army. Probably not viable as you said...


The armour of the bullgryns is similar in its 'cleanliness' to warriors of chaos, so maybe even chaos ogre stand-ins?

I'm going to take my conversion out for a test run. I think it is 'viable' just difficult. Right now I am leaving the everything more or less how it is in the Fantasy Book, just converting terms, locking in armor, and AP on shooting.

Once I see how the 1-1 conversion goes, I will work on 40k-ifying it a bit.
