What To Get Next

original thread ↗

Hi guys, I've got a good solid core army for Ogre Kingdoms and was wondering what I should purchase next to add to my toolbox for making lists. I'm running in an escalation league so I won't NEED more guys for a few months, but would like to hear people's thoughts on where I should go from here.

I've got:

  • 1 Tyrant with GW
  • 1 Butcher/Slaughtermaster with Ironfist
  • 20 Ogre Bulls
  • 8 Leadbelchers
  • 4 Ironguts
  • 2 Mournfangs
  • 1 Giant
  • 22 Gnoblars
  • 1 Ironblaster

You can never go wrong with a Stonehorn :D Or two more Mournfang to make that unit super chompy.
I agree with MAVV. Either a Stonehorn/Thundertusk or a couple more Mournfangs :)

Now, I can't say from personal experience, but reading other members' posts and battle reports, as well as having watched a couple of games that had Ogres, both choices are great in the game. And as they're both considerably larger than other Ogres, they work great as centerpieces, especially the Stonehorn/Thundertusk :D

You seem to be challenging me for the title of Smiley Overlord with all your smileys
3 Sabretusks!

When used properly these guys will win the day for you. Jimmy made a nice overview of how to use them in different situations.

+1 for tusks

I don't think you can ever have too many ironguts.

Try proxying MEs to see how they suit your playstyle. Not everyone likes them especially because they fall down to a stiff breeze but the right builds applied properly can be game changing.

Here's what I think you should get in order of importance:

1)a bruiser BSB(you can convert one out of an ogre, banner, and some bits)
2)a box of Ironguts(when you put a character or two in there you what the unit to have 9+ models)
3)2 sabretusks for redirecting/WM hunting
4)another box of mournfang and or a stonehorn(because hitting power can crush units and win games)

and maybe a firebelly or another butcher.

There are two answers to this question really; the stuff you want to improve an army and the stuff you want to paint. I am a sucker for the latter (hence why I have 48 bulls, 4 giants and no build stonehorn/ thundertusk).

So, for the army I would get a Stonehorn.
Definitely get more Mournfang.
For the 'guts to be any use you could do with some more.
I would add a second Ironblaster for bigger games.
As others have said; a couple of kitties will serve you well.
Firebelly to bolster smaller units or 'leadies.

For painting well, the world is your oyster! A gorger is a nice little project, especially if you go to town on the base. Why not have a crack at some Yeti's? Or better still do some O&G river trolls and use them as "counts as..." yeti's. On that score some converted Dragon Ogres are really nice to paint and if you change the bases they could be Mournfang.

If it was me, when in doubt, I always add another giant. I wont be satisfied until I have as many giants in my army as Ogres....not that I will ever be able to use them. But they will look good in the cabinet!

All right well the fluff I have for them is in ages gone past their tribe, devoured an entire tribe of Yhetees, and have had a strong connection with the wintry mountains ever since. Their skin is blue, but Yhetees themselves hate them instinctively.

So for theme, I went with the Thundertusk, because I wanted to use the ASL aura to effect. My next purchase after that will be some chaos warhounds to convert for Sabretusks, cause I hate the current sabretusk models, and probably another box of ironguts.

Then will be getting bragg the gutsman model to use as my bsb (chop the top off his weapon and it makes a decent standard).

The fenrisian wolves of the 40k space wolves are also wonderfull models instead of the godawfull normal sabretusks.
Got more ironguts and the wolves as suggested. Gotta  paint these bugers since i just have one bull painted.
