Ordered this out of curiosity, I haven't read the Horus Heresy series but I have admired many of the miniatures Forge World have been releasing lately.

I've been flicking through it just now and my first impressions are: oh my, what a gorgeous book! :D
Definitely worth the asking price! Loads of pages and filled with cool artwork! I'll give the fluff a read over the next few nights :)

Indeed! I also got the book and damn, that's a great thing :D

Only bad thing about it is the growing need to assemble a pre-Heresy (or during-Heresy :P ) army when browsing... :) Seriously though, I do recommend getting that if you're into 40k as it has some stunning artwork :D

I've been coolly following the Horus Heresy binge from a distance over the last two years, but have delved into it more with the decision to start a "mid-Heresy" Emperor's Children army.

I'm not quite up to scratch with all of the novels being pumped out (I will be though!). What is this book, if you don't mind me asking? Is it more of an overview of the Heresy events or a novel? :)

It's an artwork book :)
There's artwork on the events of the Heresy era, as well as individuals like Malcador, the Emperor, Primarchs, etc. and units such as the Justaerin Terminators and Custodian Guard. If you like the Horus Heresy fluff, or just like to see artwork made by some talented fellas, this'll be for you :D

There's another one, or was, as I think it's out of print nowadays; The Horus Heresy: Collected Visions. That had other artwork, although I do think that a some of the artwork is the same, like the groovy picture of Malcador. Or then I might just remember it from the Grey Knights codex :P

I bought this today with a bunch of free vouchers I got. It's a good purchase, it's colossal, well-built and has a good amount of background in it (if spread over a lot of pages) but it has one pretty big failing - the art. There's obviously a lot of really good pieces (it was particularly nice to catch some extra details on existing Black library covers) but here's also an awful lot of really very average ones both in terms of quality and subject matter. There are just SO many pieces of Marines standing around.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.

That was the problem with the earlier art book as well. There is a stunning amount of great artwork, but unfortunately they will never be compiled into one great book. Only little doses at the time, combined with average artwork...

But still, the book is a good purchase :)

Thanks for the insight guys, whilst I'm a huge fan of the 40k universe and it's depth unfortunately (or luckily perhaps depending on which point of view you take) the purse strings don't stretch that far.  Also the rule set just isn't as awesome as fantasy.  :)

I do love the Horus Heresy books however and can gladly say I finished reading Scars last month, great book and I'm always eagerly anticipating the next one.

Might have to add this one to the book shelf one day.
