Mini Rulebook = Big Rule Book w/out Fluff?

original thread ↗

Hey 40k'ers out there!

I'm thinking about dipping my nose into the far future, but I have a quick question...

Does the Dark Vengeance Mini-rulebook have all the necessary rules to play basic 40k? Or does it only have rules for playing Dark Vengeance, in which case I would have to buy the 40kBRB?

It's the same as with the Island of Blood, ie. it has all the rules. There's also the small "Read this first"-booklet, which is an intro to the game and has simplified rules. But the actual rulebook does contain everything you need to play the game. Only thing missing is the fluff :)

Absolutely has everything you need to play.  In addition, it is a heck of a lot easier to carry around and reference during games.

I also like the iPad version of the rulebook.  GW is actually starting to figure out how to take advantage of functionality...being able to tap the name of a rule and see what it is rocks!  Also the ability to search is great too.

I haven't played 40K in several months since I started picking up Fantasy but it is enjoyable and the Kill Team version is a nice change of pace to get a quick game in at lower point levels.
Sweet! Thanks guys! I'm thinking of just buying a small one off of Amazon, which'll save me like $50 :D

...now, to just explain it to my teary-eyed GW-manager as to why I did that instead of giving them my money directly :P lol

I imagine you'll make up for it with a new army at some point.   8)
Why would you have to explain your choice to the manager? :? I mean, the small rulebook is one of the reasons why I always get the starter set. Of course, with the Island of Blood and Dark Vengeance, the models are just gorgeous, but the mini rulebook has been one of the reasons why I've gotten the sets... I do have the big rulebooks as well, although I've got the Collector's versions so they don't leave the house :P

I just remembered that GW has actually started producing a "medium" size rulebook as well.  Basically a more well bound version of the small rulebook.  I can't remember how much that cost though.

Edit...
Strange, I know they sold them but I can't find them on the GW site.  I wonder if they stopped for some reason?
Eh? Medium sized rulebook? Don't think there's been something like that, at least not for a while :? Currently there's only the small one and the big one. And of course the limited print Collector's Editions, but I think those are all sold out :D

I literally had no idea this existed...

Me too! I have the Collector's Edition version of the WHFB BRB, with the gold-edged pages, and I don't think I have had it out of the box more than once... :)

How much is the small 40k rulebook out of curiosity?

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Hmmm... the things you learn :D

The small rulebook comes with the Dark Vengeance, so technically it's whatever that costs in your local currency (79€). A quick look at eBay shows the prices to generally be around 15-20€, with the occasional starting price being lower :)

Awesome, I will grab one on eBay then! Seeing as I will be wanting to learn the game to make use of my current Marine project :)

I just won an auction for US$33 (plus 3.17 S&H). Which, to me, is a fair price for it. Saved me at least $45-50 from getting the 40kBRB.

Now, I have to wait till Friday till I get my little treasure :D

THANKS GUYS! I've been riding the fence on getting it, but I really should've asked sooner :P
