I have a few questions on this, as iv been told a few different things. . Lets say Ogres charge in they are 4/4 and get str 4 impact hits x 1 unless the charge roll was a 10 or more then they get d3. Do ironguts have str 4 also due that being there base. or do they get the str 6 from greatweapons and if that is the case if i cast a spell that gives +1str would there impact hits be str 7? Also when do you take the str into effect ? if i cast +1 str on a unit until start of next magic phase.. next start turn they charge at str 7and hit. but then during Close combat they would be back to str 6 due to not recasting in my magic phase. do the hits go str 6/7?

Impact hits are based on the model's strength, plus any modifiers such as magic or ogre charge. Weapons do not count (so the ironguts do not get their strength bonus on impact hits). Don't forget that ogre charge adds another point of strength for every rank beyond the first one, so if you have a 4x4 block of ogres, they are going to be resolving their charge at strength 7.
Here is how impact hits work (in turn order):
- Group of ogres declares a charge. - Charge amount is rolled. For sake of the example, lets say a 9 was rolled. - Magic phase occurs. - Shooting phase occurs. - Close combat phase starts. - Each ogre in the front rank causes one impact hit at their strength (plus modifiers, explained later) - Regular close combat begins.
So, with this order established, you now get to see the weird stuff that can happen during the magic and shooting phases.
Lets say you make a charge, then during magic you cast wildform on that unit. The impact hits are now at strength 5 (plus ogre ranks).
Lets say you make a charge, then during magic a comet falls and wipes out all but one of your ogres. You now make a single impact hit, despite the number of ogres that originally charged into the unit.
Lets say you are playing against skaven and charge a slave bus. During their shooting phase, their cannon wipes out all but one of your ogres. Just like the comet, you now only get the one impact hit, regardless of how many ogres originally charged in.

Further note: Make way happens *before* impact hits, so your characters can be the ones to deliver the impact hits.

I thought charging units cannot make way? What about that challenges? I recall they occur before impact hits so that your ogre impact hit is inflicted directly to the model answering(or issuing) the challenge.
I like my man eaters with shiftstride so they get a ~30% chance of ogre charge - their S5 base with a potential rank is just brutal ; )

If I remember correctly, impact hits, like stomps, are resolved like shooting, so you cannot direct an impact hit at a particular model in a unit. (someone will need to verify, I'm at work with no book)
Also, You can make way when charging, and impact hits happen before everything...again, wait for confirmation.

Mr Cthulhu is correct impact hits are resolved as shooting BRB. 71 So no targetting characters. Hits resolved at base strength so no greatweapons bonus but magic adds to base strength so 1 bullgorger cast in resolved at S5 + 1 for each rank

You can stomp into a challenge, but that's about it. Unfortunately the impact hits are resolved before the challenge is issued

I am sorry to bring this back up but would rather do that than start a new thread. I know weapons do not affect impact hit strength. But do items like Greedy Fist and Giant Breaker affect the strength of the impact hits? Had this come up saying where my opponent said it was base Str and those magical items did not affect it.
Thanks.

I believe that they do as they add strength to the characters profile. Giant breaker specifically says it adds +1 strength to the profile. as for the greedy fist it a talisman and not a weapon so yes to the strength increase.

Yes, magic items / spell effects / other special rules will affect Impact Hits. Only effects due to Weapons are excluded.
Note that when performing Stomp / Thunderstomp, you will also exclude the effects of special rules (like Flaming, Killing Blow, etc). So while it is possible for the Firebelly to negate regen with a Flaming Impact hit, his Stomp is not flaming.
I once had a Firebelly win a challenge vs an enemy character that had a 2++ vs Fire by Stomping for two rounds.

Anything which directly effects your profile Str value will effect your Stomp and Impact hits. Special rules will also effect your impact hits.
Weapons don't work because they only work when you make attacks with them, stomps and impacts aren't made with weapons.
