Congrats guys, well deserved wins.
Zolas, would you share how you did the tusks on your hunter's gut plate? I have tried over and again to do bone and it always ends up stripey or blocky. I can never seem to get that "brown at the base fading up into almost white towards the end" effect...
I'll be honest on tusks I don't normally have this much success. But here we go.
The whole skull and tusks based in
Ushatbi Bone then washed fully in
Seraphim sepia.
I then highlighted the entire skull and tusks with
Ushabti Bone again. I didn't leave much brown at the end of the tusk here approx 1/5.
I then Highlighted raised areas of the skull and approx 2/3 of the tusks in a rough 1:1 max of
Ushabti Bone and
White scar As a final Highlight for the teeth and tusks only I then used
White Scar approx half of the tusk down allowing some points to pierce through a bit further. This allows a very deliberate difference between the bone and teeth/tusks.
Finally to allow extra contrast I carefully applied
Agrax earthshade in deep recesses eyes some deep parts around the teeth and finally very care fully at the base of the tusk itself to give a big contrast to the white.
I did also put some
Nuln oil to further amplify the above.
2 points to go with the above. First I tend to use a fair amount of water in the paint mix especially for boney and white paint. I find it better to do thin streaky brushes here and build up the white as I go up the tusk.
Secondly a fine brush is needed. I used a standard brush as this model is quite big. But a smaller brush and lots of streaks brushing to the tip of the tusk should help get the desired effect.
Personally I think that using a fair amount of water in your mix should help you prevent your stripey / blocky results. I justs means building up thin layers.
I hope this helps. I'm not very good at explaining these sort of things (I tend to waffle!)
