Rasta Ogre

original thread ↗

Hail everybody, first post here. Since I don't play much anymore I thought of sharing some models as I finish them, more to come. I really dislike the thundertusk's head (he can't eat by itself and that bugs me), hence I used the stonehorn one.

I'm new to resize-fu so you'll have to see the hosted pics.

Farewell, for now
You Stone Tusk looks pretty cool.
Against most non Ogre players they would assume it's a thundertusk though. That said I think the model would be fine to use as either in most games.

...and as a fan of the thundertusk head I can confirm it grazes on th foilage of trees and any bushes larger than its tusks ;)
My Armies:
Empire
Ogres
Thats hilarious well done!

- Keep an eye on Gnoblar Herders gnoblog, he has some Rastafarian ogres on the way as well!

I actually know a system to let my opponent know what it is: I tell him before the game starts. I stopped with fantasy tournaments in 6th edition and the plague of unpainted armies here is rampant, so I just don't give a damn :)

AGREED! Today had a guy proxy his cannons for pieces of paper....Really starting to annoy me..

BACK TO YOUR GUYS, Keep up the updates man, keep this gnoblogs blood flowing, any news is good news :) I resort to posting about my dinner sometimes, but its how things go around here!

Forgot to welcome you to the gnoblog community as well, so happy belated welcome! haha

Keep up the Top notch work

I actually love this idea/ theme...have you made a whole army based on this Rastafarian theme? If not you should; they look awesome.
As an aside I have just built a unit of Buffalo soldiers (complete with dreads) but TBH they are not as good as yours!
Please consider doing a whole army like this if you haven't already...it does look the business

G_H
All the army is recruited between black dudes with dreads. To be honest the locks look too smooth, since I apparently can't sculpt, but  I realized that only when I started with the paint.
Awesome! That is a really fun idea and the work is just fantastic :D
I can see these guys jamming along during a long march :P

I'd love to see more of the models, so keep on posting them :)

Those rasta ogres are just superb!  Utterly love them!

If it helps; just make small cuts/ lines with an exacto knife all the way up and down the dreads and they will look more hair-like (a la Chaos dwarf) it appears to have worked for my Buffalo ogres;

For more detail I am happy to pm stuff to ya. Well worth it because this army theme rocks mate!

G_H
Will try. But does it work on already set green stuff? I've already done all the dreads I need (and then some)
I have never tried, bit I don't see why it wouldn't work. The smallest of cuts/ marks are easily picked up and stand out when painted, so if you do make a few cuts the length of the dreads then with some paint and wash on I am sure it would work.
Do a test model (dread) and see.

As soon as I find the willpower to do something other than photos I will try, meanwhile:

These guys look amazing! I wouldn't worry about the "texturing" of the 'locks. They look cool as they are, give it a try by all means, but don't stress about that too much they look great mate!

Would love to see more of this army as it is painted...esp, the Jamaican flag as a standard the yellow green and black just looks darn cool and aren't colours I have ever seen used together too often in other armies. Just keep doing what your doing!

G_H
Nice idea on the second ironblaster! I'd like to see a bigger cannon tho I could see some types of people being like " it's just a leadbelcher on a mournfang" lol but it's definitely the first time I've seen a conversion like that :) like it

Well, it actually is a leadbelcher on a mournfang :)

The ironblaster model is too peculiar to be duplicated, so I decided to use the second Rinox head on a really big cat for the other one. It was just for fun since I played two cannons in just one game, I like to have friends.

@Gnoblar_Herder the flag was a pain in the ass to paint for many reasons. I suck at free hand and I'm too lazy to put some tape. The only greens and yellows I have left and not hard as rock are some 90s pots of emerald gr and sunburst yw, which are now of grotesquely thin consistency. Sometimes useful but discomfortful (is it a word?) on a black primer. The other ones are gonna be primed white.

This is just a random thought but you could (obviously don't have to lol) look into cannons from other armies that are larger than a standard leadbelcher cannon and strap it to that mawfuka lol (see what I did there lol) just to make him look a little more ironblasty than "a leadbelcher on a mournfang" :) still like him tho
Lookin' goooooooooood!

I was half expecting the BSB to be wearing one of those generic Jamaican style hats that (according to Hollywood) every Jamaican wears :P But I guess the helmet works as well ;)

The rest are looking ace as well! Keep at it! :D

Or, maybe, dual wield?

@Loran I suck at sculpting hence no hats, but I wanted to
Favorite part is that BSB. I have been looking for some ideas and this seems to fit the bill quite well. Thanks

Also the man-eater with the turned pistol is hilarious. GANGGGSTAA

I believe the loose woollen hats worn by Rastafari are called Tam's. They are often coloured red, gold, green and black to signify unification and the principal of "one love". It is said (but with no evidential foundation) that the colours are the uniting of the African tribes and the bringing together of the 12 tribes of Judea.

I was once lucky to have a staff team who comprised solely of people of Afro Caribbean origin who explained allot of traditions relating to both Jamaica and Rastafari, it was real education for me,  and I greatly miss working with those guys as the days just flew by and we had a really good laugh (if that is possible at work).

G_H

I like the Leadie on the Mournfang...It certainly looks like a moving cannon....and the cannon is the size of an empire one.
Maybe strapping a 2nd cannon on could explain the multiple cannon balls the Ironblaster shoots? Not sure it really needs it though.

Hehee! There's my new knowledge of the day :D As some great thinker of the past has said, every day you learn something new is a good day :) Not sure who said that line, or what the actual line was, but there's a truth right there!

But yeah, learning about different cultures and traditions is always useful. You never know when something you've learned a long time ago can help you in the future :D

@riker: I know the feeling about hats. Only hat I've so far managed to sculpt to a standard that I've liked is a beret on a Catachan Jungle Fighter model, and it wasn't exactly hard :D But the only way to learn is to try new stuff, so maybe I should give it another go :)

Keep at it, these models are great! :D

Long time no see, boredom and Black Mojo's defeat in the tyrant royal rumble made me do some more ogres. The mournfangs are still missing the banner, the bulls are done for good
