Army Transport

original thread ↗

Just out of curiosity... How/What do you transport your army/armies?

I'm currently using Sabol's Motopool, and so far it has been great.
However, I do think the foam is a tad too dense and the pluck thing works well, I just had to make sure they were the right size, and efficiency ratio.
Also, did run in the the issue of bases falling off because I placed by ogres standing up... so the edges were a snug fit. Not complaining but things I have noticed.

And any suggestions in carrying Skavens? which are lots and lots of 20mm bases? I think dedicating a whole slot for a single rat is inefficient. It'll take way too much space. Would doubling up, base to base be the best solution?

How about the rest of you? How do you do transport your armies. and what has been your experience?

p.s. This is definitely an upgrade from the tissue and shoe box!

Im currently in the shoebox stage! I really want to get some tool boxes and remove the shelf things and insert a steel sheet, then glue magnets on all the bases. Would make a very stable way to carry armies and have no fear of them moving around. Would be dirt cheap too. 3 tool boxes would do around 2k of ogres. And those are the small tool boxes

I've got a few of the GW cases. While not the best, they do handle the job adequately...

However, I won't be getting any more of them. Next up will be the KR Multicase things! While expensive, those babies can fit a ton inside. The thing is though, with the money, you get lots of goodies. The small GW case fits 108 models IIRC, and the larger one only double that. In the KR case, provided you take the foams that are suitable for Space Marine sized models, you can fit around 200 models in the same space as the GW case. And for around the same price, maybe even less depending on where you live and what the postage will be... :P

I've seen the Sabol Motorpool and it's also a nice thing. But, like you said, the foam is apparently quite dense, so not the best option out there :|

You seem to be challenging me for the title of Smiley Overlord with all your smileys
I use a big, indestructible tool box that I bought from Lowes for 20$, got some free 2" foam from a local foam company, cut it up and glued it to some cardboard from Michaels.  There it is, amazing, indestructible army transport for about 5000pts of ogres with some room to grow for under 40$ total and a little bit of work.  And I can put a lock on it, which has yet to come I handy, but someone else pointed it out to me as a benefit.
I'm using small stacking plastic tubs with sheets of steel in it. I then put magnets under the bases of my models and they don't slide around too much.
Use stackable plastic bins.  Put non-skid lining in the bottom and keep my models ranked up on trays.  I have magnetized bases/tray so works fine without them getting knocked around in most cases.
Grabbed one of these as a fake army transport style bag (much cheaper):

Bigger too at 16 x 14 x 10 inches.

I use GW foam inside at the moment but have a roll of insulation foam to cut into and make my own trays that will do loads and cost about £15.

For those wanting something well prices reviews are good of the Tyrant bags:

Looked at 40mm size trays and you get 7 of them and the bag for £41. Decent.

Back in 6th when I was playing bretonnians I took a suit case and put thin sheet metal on all the sides/bottom/top and magnatized everything to it. Worked incredibly well..
for alot of people who only have small armies or armies that arent as a paint to transport as ogres this might be over kill but if you have a large ogre army and you want to keep everything in one place this is a great investment

it doesnt take much to line the inside with soft foam or even foam trays if you are really protectiveand is very easy to add shelves to the inside and segment it to fit more in , you have to top storage which can fit a small ogre army in on its own but if you want larger games or you want to take some big beasties to keep safe then its amazing how much you can get in , also in the tray in the middle i found i had enough room for my army book , rule book , dice , templates (storm of magic book if you wanted to) all the custom counters i made for spells and what-not and if i want to go and do some painting before or after my gaming even with all that in the drawer there is still alot of room for paints and paintbrushes

also the fact that it is tough as hell and about the same height as a chair means that in GW stores where chairs are sparse at best this is a welcome little helper but like i said this is mostly for BIG armies and it is a serious investment im considering getting one myself after my friend lent me his to go to a local tournament but at £80 you need to be 100% sure its not too much for what you need

edit: its about 73cm high with the handle down incase anyone was wondering on size and the top tool box comes off seperately if you want to carry less

The guy who runs the local 40k league started this company up.  And yes, the cases are a little pricey, but they are awesome: durable, modular, and can carry a crap-ton of stuff.  My entire Ogre collection fits with room to spare.
I went really cheap and picked up a double sided gun case with egg crate inside after black Friday. Best $29 bucks I ever spent, it won't fit the  bigger stuff but still worth it.
