This will be my second gnoblog to date, my first being the creation of my ogre army and this being what i get up to month to month painting and building. Most of the blog will be the random models and units i paint up for varying armys and games. Anyway less drivvle from me and onto what ive done this january and what ive still got on the desk

The all important hq choice, flying hive tyrant. So far this army has cost me around 60 sterling to buy, there was a trygon in my bitz box so that was quite a big saving, when i got the models they had been previously painted in red and bone some of whitch is still visable however it was a consious choice to keep it there.

those orks are still in the same condition as they were last week, totaly side tracked with island of blood skaven. will add up a few pics later this week, need to get back to trying to paint up the rat ogres-Army painter dip inbound .....

got island of blood skaven set finished off now, they look realy good if i do say so myself. Its nice to get an army together that i realy enjoy building painting and collecting as ive started at least six in the last few months. Going to see this army up to 2k points. just uploading the pics to photobucket now..

this is a very good little model, especialy since it comes from the starter set, as the models in the army progress threw there careers i figured they will have accsess to more warpstone goods, so the higher the rank the greener the model

WoW This army is looking really good. I don't know where to start! The Rat Ogres look excellent, I love the Warpstone glow effect on them. The weapons teams are really good, again I really like the glow effect. Clanrats/ slaves are equally good; I had to give up on my attempts at a Skaven army as I just couldn't face painting all those tiny bodies.
This army just looks excellent, have a Gnoblar for your troubles!

Thanks for the kind words, the army is realy easy to paint up and the effects are realy simple too. ive got a good few rats on my desk at the moment so on the next batch i will do a little guide to the painting stages and a one on how to get the glow look.

The skaven look really good...I like that the blue pallete brightens them up, while the painting style keeps them looking , well ratty
Some advise on the clanrats if you have the motivation...As they are all very monopose models they tend to look too regimented for a horde of ratmen, I would look at not using slotted bases and positioning them in different positions on the bases. I did this for half of my 80 odd island of blood slaves and wish I'd done it for the rest. Also strips of 5 are a lot easier to remove from the unit as these guys die in droves.

One of the issues i do forsee is having huge units all looking the same, im going to see if i can scrounge up some diffrent weapons and look at doing some unit fillers too, possibly using other races as slaves, like green skellys or possibly adding in twenty or so beastmen gors (think thats the little guys) possibly doing some chunks of warpstone too as little fillers. ive got sooooo many ideas just not enuf time to make them all happen. Thanks againg guys for the comments the motivation realy helps with it ive managed to progress the next unit a little

Black rats!! i know every skaven army has some of these in it. the models have all been re based as when i got them the sand was a little scarce. so far this army has set me back £15 for the island of blood models plus this month i spend £50 whitch got me a plauge furnace and 50 more clanrats, ive used only 45 of these due to damages and i dont need any more standards or musicians at the moment

very much WIP. these guys are now blued up ready for the realy painfull addition of skin colours, it takes two coats of ratskin flesh per model............will be needing more coffie. will add some updates when that stage is done

Nice work! I'm loving the Plague Monks...but what models are they? I don't recognize them as Plague Monks, but then I have never actually had any so I could be wrong. these ones look much more "animated" than I remember them.

hopefully getting a drop of paint on them tonite, all ten are built primed and ready to go. they are made from plage monk lower body sliced with a razor saw then a ghoul from the vampire counts range put on top, with a plauge monks head, the join was hidden with a selection of bones and bits from the kits so it looks more real. very fun model to do and it keeps with the scale of the new skaven range as the current monks are soooo dated. also buils up another 40 slaves with a couple of conversions in there with a weeks holiday coming up i hope to have some good results

ahhhhh, ive just swapped my warmaster figs for a ton of skaven stuff, theres enuf to fill up my entire army, everything from grey seers to clanrats. been slow on the painting as been on holiday for the last few days and the skaven have lingerd patiently in there box, may get to them on wedensday this week. the thought of doing another 40 clan rats is not so appealing.

its the 40 clanrats after that, that will really take the wind out of our sails From someone who has already slogged through a skaven army, the reward is worth it at the end when you see your fully painted horde! The army then becomes fun as you start adding all sorts of skaven contraptions.

just spent the last week moving house, ive not had a brush in my hand all week but ive got a new painting desk, much better light thanks to a daylight bulb. all unpacked ready to go tonite, going to try and get the second wave of skaven dipped. My skaven phase seems to be coming to an end, usaly i will leave the army when im still enjoying it a littl so as not to get burned out then come back to it in a couple of months. Ive a feeling i could be doing something orky next, but if rumors are to belived they are getting a new set of models in a couple of months time i may just wait to see what they bring out.

New desk and lighting Not jealous at all.
I have been hearing these Ork rumors...I am hoping that they are true, because I am hoping to use this release as an opportunity to sell my 13,000pt deathskull army off I need to re-coup some money so I can really plough some serious cash into my Chaos Dwarf army. Even selling at a loss I should make £1300, hopefully.
Like you I am coming to the end of my "Ogre run". In need to take a break from them for a bit before I get despondent with them.
Good luck with your latest endeavour, what ever it may be...can't wait to see some pictures of what you decide to do!

thought i would give the slaves a diffrent colour fur, ginger! it will break up the browns in the army but stays with the theme of the force by having pink skin and blue cloth, notice the warpstone fueld eyes

Pre dip plauge monk, all ten are to this stage now. ive given them a healthy obsession with warpstone so its literaly growing out of there fur. later this will tie-in with the palauge catapult and other related stuff. Ive also got some of the new nurgles rot to try out on these after they are varnished

Got them pesky rats finished off, based and boxed up to free up space on my now nearly empty desk. Ive got the herald done too even dipped him in quickshade, just waitiing for a new can of matt varnish to arrive and will show you the results. Once i get the camera back from wherever ive lost it again i will take a pic of the finished monks too. I did a tester with the nurglesrot and found it to look somewhat pants so did not bother with the rest of them

^Agreed. I really love the whole Nurgle thing, I have often considered starting a Nurgle army but always given up as I just don't see where they would fit in with my games/ hobby stuff.

granted the model looked truley awefull when its first dipped but once dry it gets a coat of matt varnish and its sooo much better, i did do a little tidy up work where the dip pooled a little too much but overall the models is passable and will stand out a little from the rest of the force

Now its a fresh month and a fresh pledge for april. Ive treated myself to some new orky walkers in the form of a box of kanns and a new deff dread, going to aim to do these plus finish off another kann this month. Its not a lot to do as such but it will be a nice little break. After that ive got a marine army secreaming to be let out of the box so i would like to get a test model fer it, thinking of iron warriors but for the imperium. I did want to do pre hersey bet i cant justify it right now-feel free to sponsor a squad for me

Same squad but from behind. Ive not attatched the feet as its easyer to do it as i stick them to the bases to get all the angles to fit correctly. ive also built up the deffdread-no pics as its a straight out the box build

well im realy phyced for the new range of ork models coming out so i thought to do them justice i would realy get this army off the ground again. a green tide to start cant be bad. hopefully this month i can get them to gameing standard at least. anything after that would be veeeery impresive.

ok going to have a big mug of coffie, white with some sugars in it then realy try to get some more work on these orks before momentum runs out. theres 70 plus o the desk right now. built basecoated and the cloth work finished, onto 140 plus pairs of boots!!!!!!

Heres a little stage by stage painting guide, some of the colours are gw old range of paints but im sure they could be easily swapped out for a new range of colours. I find it easyest to build and bast the model first. spraying a can of gw chaos black to undercoat him. speed is key hear as theres literealy going to be 100 of these guys. next up is the clothes and base whitch can be done at the same time. Grab a larger dry brush that your comftable with then apply a dark grey foundation colour to the areas mentioned, i think it was adeptus battle grey i used. once this is dry or if your batch painting u get to the end u can add the next colour. a lighter shade of grey. drybrush this on to the same areas only as a highlight. Astronomican grey was used hear. Next up the leather can be done, its a little fiddily and takes ages but go fo a nice rich brown-think i used a mournfang for it.

this is the finished product-its a good neat gameing standard, whitch for orks is fine as ive got literaly hundreds of them done and to do, its quick easy and effective. the sking gets a light drybrushing of knarloc green. teeth and bones get dhneb stone with a sepia wash. pick out any metals u may desire with a little silver. lightly apply ryzas rust to some of the metal work. im may have mentioned it but the leater gets the base colour re applied then a highlight with a lighter brown mixed in to it.

As you may expect during painting up the tut boy ive been working on the rest of the horde. in this ive totaly managed to mess up the boys in the final stages by going way overboard with the weathering and gore, ive literaly thrown away around 25 boyz that were finished. so the horde is very far behind. such a shame

been super busy at the moment. my last day off i spent putting out fires on the island i work on, this day off ive had to check no peat was still burning, followed by teaching people to dive followed by teaching people to snorkle-all of whitch i love doing but is getting me nowhere fast in regards to painting. for this months chalange i set my self to paint up the remaining few orks to make fifty boys, then build up another fifty and paint up twenty of them. ive hada lucky break in regards to building them as most just needed a little tweaking and they were ready to go. ive got the fifty strong squad finished now and three of the twenty painted up. so for the last few hours of my day off im drinking coffie (lots) and going to get a full five orks done and onto the shelf-its going to happen...........

yes i got them done in the alloted time, only just tho it was around 11 once i got them all sorted out. currently on the desk is the tail end of the twenty orks i wanted to do this month. in real time they have all been washed too. Motivation is a little lacking for them so when they finish i think i will drop into another project, possibly ork tanks, some of the new ork range, skaven, ogres, spacemarines or possibly a new batch or orks. who knows what will get done.

Heres the heavy support choices rolling in. got all these models from trades and bought a few of them from other forum members. they are part assembled and painted, well theres every stage of stuff done to the to be fair. Planning to re paint it all to fit in with my army a little better. time to get some converting done and a bit of repairing too.

@jimmy. new ork kits have on the whole turned out superbly. fully interchangeable and in my opinion they have the most emotion of all the current armys. Prices have been average as far as Gw goes, possibly due to competition from other companys. ive still to get hold of the new codex and have a game or two with them so i cant comment on them in that respect. Overall they seem a solid army to choose with the options to please most gamers and a average price tag. Lets not forget the more dedicated hobbyists have access to a small range of forge world stuff too.

In order to make all the models a little diffrent and more ramshackle ive decided to add extra plateing to the sides this makes it look enclossed and works well with the deff rolla as it seems more bulkyer, and defo more orky

I did notice the aquila strangely enuf, will try and keep it in there. I do feel a bit sad to have to repaint them, they are of a good quality too-tho they wont quite fit in with my force as is so they must get a lick of paint on them.
