2500 Tourny list with optional 25% storm of magic

original thread ↗

So, my local Tournament scene is doing a 2500 tournament with a special twist, up to 25% of your force can be Storm of Magic Monsters (close proxies are allowed). Taking this, I've got the following list idea that I'm working under

Tyrant General
   - Heavy Armor
   - Enchanted Shield
   - Greedy Fist
   - Other Tricksters Shard
   - Giantbreaker

Bruiser BSB - heavy armor, great weapon
   - Dragonhelm
   - Crown of Command

Firebelly lvl2
   - Gold Sigil Sword
   - Dispel Scroll
   - Ironcurse Icon

8x Ironguts
   - Full Command, Dragonhide banner

9x Ogres
   - Full Command, ironfists

10x Gnoblar Trappers
10x Gnoblar Trappers
10x Gnoblars

4x Maneaters - Scout Stubborn
   -FC, Gleaming Banner, 4x XHW

Sabretusk
Sabretusk

Ironblaster

Storm of Magic Section

Sabretusk Scout
Giant (cause, yeah)
Truthsayer, Level 3 Lore of Life

So, the plan was to drop the Truthsayer in the gnoblar not trapper unit, hide him behind my gutstar and laugh and laugh. Any other ideas, thoughts on the list? I'm not 100% on the Tyrant/BSB loadout.
To be honest I think your list looks pretty cool. There are a few things I'd change, the first is the Gold Sigil Sword on the Firebelly. If your aim here was to increase his initiative for the breath weapon then the Gold Sigil Sword wont work. It only increases attacks made with the Gold Sigil Sword to initiative 10 not his base stat. You can however take the Potion of Speed which will achieve a higher initiative breath weapon attack once per game, seeing as you can only use the breath once it's a cheep and effective way to strip some regen before you start hammering away at the enemy.

As for your concerns regarding the Tyrant and BSB I'd probably change their loadouts. My BSB almost always Heavy Armour takes either the Enchanted Shield and Talisman of Preservation or Sword of Striking, Enchanted Shield and Talisman of Endurance. As our army really needs the BSB re-rolls keeping him around longer helps him out infinitely. To be honest though your BSB build isn't that bad but why would you take the Dragonhelm when you can take the Charmed Shield and Dragonbane gem which costs the same, achieves the exact same effect AND offers you the additional bonus of discounting the BSB's first hit on a 2+??

As for the Tyrant I can't really offer much in the way of advice there. If I had to give him a build though I'd probably take the following.

Tyrant
Ironfist
Sword of Striking (or other 15 point weapon/item)
Armour of Destiny
Crown of Command

or

Tyrant
Great Weapon
Armour of Silvered Steel
Talisman of Preservation

As he is your general and main source of high Ld I'd want to keep him around longer with a ward save. This is how I'd go about it, hope this gives you some ideas.
Thanks for the input -

The reason the firebelly has the GSS is to get him swinging before the Tyrant and BSB (the BSB who got the great weapon... later in the list build) and because his Enchanted Item slot holds the ironcurse icon to help deal with the large number of war machines in my area - but I can move that.

And I have this thing about investing in ward saves for characters - I neglect to do it and regret it later. Its just a personal thing, but, I seem to want to always do it (It stems from usually running Maw and betting too hard on Trollguts,  I think).

I do want the Tyrant to have Sword of Striking and Strength 6, means when he hits a tough 4 block on the charge, he's likely hitting and wounding on 2s, rerolling 1s. Its hi-freaking-larious.

So, couple of minor tweaks, list is the same except:

Tyrant
Sword of Striking
Armor of Destiny
Giantbreaker
Ironcurse Icon

Bruiser:
Great Weapon
Heavy Armor
Charmed Shield
Dragonbane Gem
Crown of Command

Firebelly -Level 2
Dispel Scroll
Potion of Speed

Non trapper gnoblar unit up to 14 (I had extra points)

Turn all sabertusks into storm of magic monsters with Bane Claws :)
If you want the FB to swing before the Tyrant, try the Initiative potion: remember, giving the FB a magic weapon removes the effect of his flaming attacks.

If you want the best survival gear for the Tyrant, then statistically it's the Trickster's Helm and Talisman of Preservation (though this actually works better on the SM since he's immune to poison).

Is the Truthsayer the Zoat?  He would be my pick.  A level 3 life wizard who also happens to be Monstrous Infantry?  Yes please!
Really? Ugh, no more magic weapons for my firebelly should someone else actually know that rule (I thought he just always had flaming attacks?)

And no, its not Zoat, I don't have anything resembling a proxy for him and the Tourny Organizer requests we at least act like we have something resembling the model. It's just a random conversion truthslayer hanging out with my Gnoblars. It'll actually not work that well, but so long as I get to place one more ogre back on the table I'll call it a win

Ah, a shame :D  But the truthsayer isn't bad at all either.  Regrowth IS nice, but don't forget stoneskin (T6 ogres?  *shudder*), and even the sig is handy.

Yeah, outside special rules don't effect magic weapons, so a FB loses his flaming.  Things like the razor standard or flaming banner don't have an effect on magic weapons either.
