The Rust-Maw Tribe! A Work in Progress.

original thread ↗

Hello Every One!

I Started Collecting and painting Warhammer about 8 Months ago, just recently i actualy started playing the game aswell wich added sooo much more the hobby, in other Words, i love this hobby and cant beleive i started this late in life (im 27 years old).

Anyway, after small buys here and there of other armies i finnaly decided i wanted to make a 2400+ Points Ogre Kingdoms army as i realy enjoy the models.

I wanted to go for a warmer look, so the colour that was going tie the army togheter was Rust, its far from finnished but here is some work in progress Pictures but also some already finnished modells.

Tips and advice about the painting is very welcome, since the most fantastic part about this hobby is that you can Always learn new teqhniques and evolve.

I will upload more Pictures when i have made further progres.

/Jim

Looks great! If these are your first models you have painted then I am very impressed! Your painting style remind me a lot of mine. However I use much less rust and more bronze colours with the verdigris weathering.

Top Notch army, keep em coming

Thank you con-ogre! They are not my first ones, i have painted orcs, lizards and VC in between these ones, this was when i was tryinhmg to decide what to focus on. There are soooo many cool models from GW that its hard to not get carried away haha!

Ogres are perfect for me, not only do i love the model range but i work over 200h a month and i have a kid, so the Low model count realy helps :).

Oops long reply! Just have to say this is a great forum!
Thats some truly great painting.  I especially like the skin and the rust effect, how did you do it (the rust)?
Definitely gnoblar worthy.

Thank you very much dedled, glad you like them :). As for the rust effect i basecoated with mournfang brown, then i used a drybrush to Stipple/stabb on some skrag brown, then troll slayer orange using the same stipple method. This method will let all the browns shine through, making it very enveten and dirty. I then wash it lightly with agrax earthshade. Finnaly i apply ironbreaker (silver) using a regular small brush, but as a drybrush if tha makes any sence? There is barely any colour on the brush and i scrape the ironbreaker of on the edges of the rusted areas with the side of the brush. Its very easy i promise.

Give it a try and let me know how you like the method!
I have to echo everyone else ^ and say I think your painting is awesome on these guys, truly. I am not going to go on about it, but some of the detailing you have done (like the jewel on Golfy) is awesome.

I often seem to miss Gnoblogs (for reasons unknown) and loads of people's great work passes me by. I shall try and keep an eye on your stuff though dude, it is excellent work.

Started and finished my kit-bashed bruiser/bsb today! Will probably go back an highlight some more at a later stage but for now in pleased with it :).

top notch!
I could only advise on 2 things, and they are completely personal preference
1. I would dull down his eyes with something, some very very watered down agrax or sepia. To me they pop to much and take away from the awesome scarring you've done

2. If I were you I would do a light dry brush with a dark brown on your bases, unless you going for that scorched earth/ volcanic soil look. I just the dark brown would ring up nicely with the warm rust without overdoing it like say..,balor brown or XV-88 colour would.

And again, totally personal preference

To add, please go over how you due your tusks, that black to yellow to bone transition. Thats how I want to due my mourn fang/ iron blaster. Looks great and its exactly how gw did it

Thank you for the feedback! Yes you are right about the eyes, will take your advice with the watered down agrax :). The bases are going to be snow flocked when they are all done, they look Boeing now but thats why.

Ah the banana bones lol, i love look of them and i did it my mournfang aswell, i did as follows:

Basecoat: rakarth flesh
Edge highlight (drybrush): screaming skull

Now for the coloring i use a drybrush, i work every color downwards to where i want the least colour if u know i meen, start from the tip, darkest part and brush down.

Balor brown
Skrag brown
Rhinox hide
May add the tinyest amount if black at the very tip. Every color shall overlapp, i usualy start at the same spot with every colour and work down as mentioned above.

Wash everything with seraphim sephia.

Sorry for the long post, im verry tired haha. Good luck :D
