Hey guys, finally getting around to making my own gnoblog on here. I've slowly been growing my Ogre tribe for the past couple months, and was finally able to paint up my Firebelly, who is named Kane.
Love the big guy, he's my general in smaller point games, wouldn't leave home without him. I'll get more pictures up in the coming weeks, first I have to get around to finishing and touching up the rest of the lads. Cheers!
MAVV19 Dec 2013
Kane, Bonemasher (Tyrant/SM proxy), and my Bruiser BSB (as yet un-named) just hangin' out.
And some of the lads, rumbling bellies abound.
A little better quality photos. It is hard to get good lighting in my room, so I have to deal with that and a poor camera to put things online

Love it! keep em coming. Ive always loved the red theme, reminds me of the orcs of the outland from WoW.. Good times.
Theres another another guy on here who does a great red army, If i find him again ill post a link, he might have some good ideas for you

Thanks Conogore! Finally got my beasty done, so here's an update on him. All of my Ogres are built and about half of them are primed and awaiting my attention. I just picked up a Stonehorn because I love the model and idea behind him, so he will be my big cuddly stone monster of doom.
I wanted him to contrast a lot with the red of my Ogres, since they live through perpetual bloodshed, while the beasts of the mountain do not. Old/grey is what I wanted and I really like how he turned out. I need to get over him again and fine-tune some things, but for the most part he is done and ready to crush heads with the rest of the lads.
Still need to work on his Hunter master but that will happen when I get to work on my Mournfang riders.
MAVV23 Jan 2014
Finally got to working on these lads. First time doing actual basing work on anything so that's pretty rough, but I'm already learning from my silly decisions. A little touch-up work to do still but they are 99% complete.

Kinda crappy photo, but I finally got my Leadies all red and ready to shoot more elves. My BSB is finished as well, but he's sulking in the background after perishing ignominiously to some Lizard BS in my last game. For shame.

You should post some battle reports! Let us know how those fights are going, input on your tactics and such.

I am now the proud overlord of sixty Gnoblar fighters! Arranged here in a sixty block and two units of ten from my original battalion box. I used everybody from the extras on the Bull/gut sprues, to the hangers-on from the scraplauncher kit, and even a leadbelcher helper. It's going to be a fun game running six units of ten, or one giant horde to hold up a flank. Now, to paint them...

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

The idea of a second stone horn has always peeked my interest, I find your paint job very inspiring. I went with a dark stone for the horns. Yours with the pale horns on the darker body really pops. I want to do the same, make it clear that there are a variety of the beasts roaming the mountains of mourn.

So tonight I finally finished painting my last couple ogres and my 2500pt list for Berserkon is complete. I'll be getting a new, better phone in this next week so I should get some good photos up soon!
Glory to the World Eater!
MAVV02 Jun 2014
The new phone is here and some photos have indeed been taken!
My full 2500pts finished and ready for Berserkon in a week! Army list down below.
Irons +2 not pictured.
The Ogre Lance! 14 Bulls plus my Maw caddy in the middle-centre.
Mournies!
My Slaughtermaster, for now. He was originally supposed to be Heavens, and this model reflex that. Ever since trying out Beasts, I'm not going back.
Krull Man-taker, Banner Bearer of the World Eater!
Ironblaster, after only having blown up once so far...fingers crossed!
MUNCHY!!! The biggest, baddest, easiest thing to kill in my army (next to the sabres)
Anyway, here's the list! It's done pretty well for me so far, going 3-1 in practice games.
With Beasts I've found it's very easy to get at least two spells off with 3-4 dice each, and I have enough options that getting one dispelled isn't a big deal. Munchy has died every single game but one, and then he had two wounds left and got really lucky against some knights, but I love him so he stays (GOOD BOY). My ogre lance has smashed through a cold one knight bus and a steam tank, and held up Empire halberd hordes long enough for the MF to wreck face. No one expects Ogres to rank up but if I need to I can go into a quasi-horde for an immense amount of attacks.
Jimmy02 Jun 2014
I like your list mate, no tricks, very straight up and in your face type of play. Aside from the SM, do the remaining characters always end up in the Ironguts?
Have the losses around the Stonehorn been from one shot things or has it been picked off over a number of turns? I'd like to get some more info on this, obviously it leaves a large portion of the rest of your army intact - is that accurate?

So far the plan has been SM and BSB in the Irons, with the maw caddy with the bulls. Prefferably keeping that unit within 12" of the general/BSB for both buffs and leadership, they can tag-team anything with relative ease. Plus I don't care about the caddy surviving so I can shove him out to chaff/kamikaze hellheart if I need to. I know for the future I want to change up the SM's gear a bit for more survivability. The Trickster's Helm is nice, but I always seem to play opponents that can get re-roll 6s no matter what, and with only a 6++ he gets wounds on him. Although, in four games he has only ever died to dimensional cascade... After a S10 Savage Beast SM attacks a unit there usually isn't much left to kill him
The Stonehorn always seems to get into the thick of things without support, which is mostly my fault. Anything with GWs will topple him (dwarfs, executioners, etc) so I know now to avoid those unless an easy combo-charge is possible. My last game I had to move him up in the face of the crazy pegasus dark elf with giant blade, cloak, etc. He survived the first round but fled and got run down :/ it DID keep that insane lord out of the game though, so his sacrifice stopped almost double his points from hitting my Iron's behinds.
I pretty much consider my Stonehorn as expensive chaff. He is supposed to be scary, intimidating, and draw attention from everything else on my side. He does a good job at that, and does soak up a ton of shooting. I don't think he's died from shooting whatsoever so far, but he does run like a frightened mouse if he loses combat by a couple

Returned from my trip up to Duluth for the Berserkon GT! My record went 2-1-2 with two major wins, one minor and major loss. Placing 10th out of 15, not getting my goal of top 50% of the players but still pretty good for my first ever tourney.
My list was the one above! I definitely know what I need to change up for next time. I love my Munchy but he died in all but one games and gave up a serious amount of points for barely any, if at all, points gained. Beasts definitely shined and I love it still. My one major weakness, the lack of any fire attacks, didn't matter too much. I could have hit some Beasts of Nurgle with it, but he barely made his regen saves anyway! Heh. I had one wound left on a Terrorgheist at the end of my first game, keeping it my minor loss instead of a draw :/ but that was just bad luck. In no game did I feel my generalship was in question, I can't think of a single mistake I made that wasn't dice-centric. Poor Beastmaster, your Trickster's Helm doesn't help against Karl Franz...
My impact hits on one charge! The most 6's I've ever rolled hehe
...and I won a paint set! That was worth the whole trip, haha.
MAVV28 Jun 2014
AH-MURIKA!!!
I bought a Griffon to use as my Transformation monster, very much a WIP at this point. I love the model, very majestic and angry. It's a shame its so bad on the table, otherwise people would see it more often. They will now! He will be my "lesser" casting value buddy.
MAVV28 Jun 2014
+that saddle is going to be where my mounted version of my SM will sit, high and mighty. For when he casts Transformation of Kadon, he doesn't change, he SUMMONS THE MIGHTY GRIFFON! *eagle noises*
MAVV02 Jul 2014
Second Stonehorn finished!
Cute little tail!
Proud granpa Stonehorn
The idea here being this second Stonehorn (with ogre rider and base still WIP) is a much younger pup, with a healthy red coat and a steel skeleton. I'm thinking of naming him Edward, with his slightly crossed-eyes and penchant for dying to a light draft, it will be fun to yell.
Gnoblar_Herder02 Jul 2014
Nice work! Loving the red stonehorn "Edward". This guy will look great when on his base; an awesome two-some for your opponents to have to face. Keep up the good work G_H
MAVV09 Jul 2014
Thanks G_H! I need to get some rocks for Edward's base so I can finish him and move onto my third Stonehorn
I'm finally taking the plunge on making a Slaughtermaster worthy of the Lore of Beasts.
He's going to be immense! I have a feeling that eventual greenstuff belly will take up over half the model, haha. Using the Black Orc standard face with a Skullcrusher mohawk to represent his Trickster's Helm/CoC. His left arm will be leaning a Naginata-esque GW/Sword of Striking so he will always be "WYSIWYG" sneakiness. I'm not sure what to do with the left arm though, maybe just an ironfist...I'll come up with something!
Gnoblar_Herder09 Jul 2014
Excellent! I am looking forward to seeing this LoB Slaughtermaster with "ten bellies".
As for the left arm, I don't know what your planning for the guy but if it were me I would be looking towards the left arm of an irongut (the one that holds the weapon up in the air). It wont be right proportionally because of the size of the SM, but it would work as a basis on which to build with Greenstuff. I would definitely be thinking of having that left arm held aloft, it should frame the model (as in act as a border) and draw the attention into the body and head (and that mahoooosive belly!)
Just a thought G_H
MAVV13 Jul 2014
Progress! The head isn't attached yet just in case I want to repose it, but right now it's looking good. I ended up drilling the feet on him because he wouldn't stand on his own (I need a hover suit). Working on the left arm which will need some pinning too, but unfortunately this behemoth used up all my greenstuff! Hobby paused until I get some more, haha. Still not quite sure what to do with his right arm...something will come up eventually.
G_H I love that nickname! "Ten Bellies" will indeed be what I'm calling this guy, that is awesome. Have a gnoblar

Major update! Edward finally gets his tag-along to finish off the model, and my next big projects get some base coating love. Picked up my third and final Stoney from a buddy who was selling off his collection. I'm going to make the hunter on top holding a GW (like a man!) for as much WYSIWYG as possible when I want to use him with that equipped. I'm having trouble coming up with a name for her yet and nothing has sprung to mind as of yet. Any suggestions there would be very much appreciated (and yes this one shall be a girl).
SM and griffon all ready for paint too. I have to fix up his legs and back a bit more but once I get around to doing that he'll be ready to lead. I got the Doombull from a local shop that was selling all the newly direct-order-only models/boxes for 25% off, and since it was my birthday a couple days ago I decided to splurge on him, a model I've always wanted. The Doombull is next to the FB and Stonehorn for my favorite models in the range. I plan to make him my Maneater champion, or a Butcher w/GW for kicks.
Gnoblar_Herder27 Jul 2014
Would have to suggest Ellie, as in Ice Age...though Manni would be better, but not for a girl.

Thanks guys! I like the idea of Bertha, but the "big" is too standard for my tastes Something will come up. I'm very much into different syllable sounds with my naming, i.e. Muncheeh!!!, Edward!!!, Berthaaa!!! sounds great
Now I have some new additions to my army, thanks to a recent birthday. I am still a baby, but now I'm a baby with Maneaters and a Hunter Samurai!
These guys are going to wreck face. I've always liked the newer Mino models, they're massive bulls with axes and anger! Heheh. They will run Swiftstride/Stubborn which I think is pretty fluffy for the models themselves, FC/+1 mvmt banner, champ has GW (Doombull) with the front rank full AHW, and two GW guys in the back for more can opening goodness. Rounding it out with two wound-taking guys without equipment, and HA on the whole bunch because S3 shooting is foolish! Basically if my opponent is shooting these guys, they're leaving my 2-3 Stonehorns alone
Next up is my new Hunter model from Werewoolf Miniatures out of Poland
I've been eyeing this model from quite some time and finally got around to getting it. It took forever to get here (from Poland, pfft) but I am pretty happy with him. Unfortunately the Naginata broke off at the hand, and all of the arrows broke off of his backpack so I kept those off of him. That was my fault, and no fault at all of theirs or shipping, it was just flimsy and cracked off, bugger. I love this alternate head they give too, he looks downright nasty! I'm using the other head on my last SH rider, for that sweet hair knot.
A little bit of greenstuff to fill in cracks and they will be off to the "to be painted" shelf.
MAVV07 Aug 2014
Not a hobby update, but the best thing to happen to a Stonehorn in a long time. Due to a frenzied overrun, my second Stonehorn, Edward III, got charged in the behind (oh dear) but a Saurus Oldblood cowboy of the 1+ re-rollable, 4++, S7 A5 variety. His coldone did nothing and so did the ogre rider on top (how can you reach that far back anyway?) but EDWARD hit six times, wounded three times, and he failed all of his saves and died right there at my feet. MUAHAHAHAHA victory was achieved! Glorious.
Gnoblar_Herder07 Aug 2014
That truly is a sweet model there MAVV! I wouldn't worry about any damage, it can all be smoothed out with some minor alterations and painting the guy will bring it all back into line.
As for slapping Lizardmen; it's always great when a coup like this can be pulled off! It makes all the 1's and miscasts and self-destructing Ironblasters worthwhile!
G_H
Loran08 Aug 2014
Minotaurs! Lovely models indeed! And now I want to paint Beastmen... Damn you!
The unit is looking great. Minotaurs do have that passive aggressive look (or is it just aggressive? ) to them, so Swiftstride/Stubborn works well with the look of the unit as well! That's a great idea, to have different special rules represented by the units themselves as well. Great stuff, have a Gnoblar!
That Samurai Ogre fella looks amazing! I tried to go check where to order these, but couldn't find an online store, only a Facebook and Twitter pages. That is a stunning model, and I'd love to get my hands on one of those. Would make for an amazing Maneater Captain And like G_H said, when the model is painted, who can tell the difference. Can't wait to see him painted!
And kudos for the Stonehorn thing! That kind of situations are the funniest, and usually most remembered

The lot I finished today. Some bulls got their new basing, Hunter done, and work on converting my second FB with the magic carpet.
So pretty.
The Superbelly! I'll have to greenstuff some more of the clock and fix his wrist a bit, but he'll look fashionable and cool zooming around, burning elves to crispy goodness.
MAVV12 Aug 2014
(there's a little grass in his face, which I blew out later )
I toyed with the idea of making his armor a different color than red, but after reviewing the overall body of the model, most of his skin isn't showing at all. Both of his hands are out and a bit of the eyes, but that's it. The alt head is bald and helmetless, but Yama needs his dragonhelm. So, red his armour remains! I like how dramatic his position is, looking read to draw that katana (as long as a man!) and slice threw some monster's neck.
Taking a bit of influence from Lone Wolf and Cub (not to mention Last Samurai for that red armour), my fluff for this guy will be centered around his self-exile from the Redkin, his journey to Nippon and his adventures there. My fleshhound sabretusks could be explained by Yama fighting chaos/daemons/beastmen there and taming his own demons to fight by his side. My hero!
Gnoblar_Herder12 Aug 2014
Excellent work MAVV; where to start?
The FC Firebelly looks great, where is the cloak from? This model will look excellent when finished.
The Nippon Ogre looks really cool. I am liking the subtle highlights on the trousers there and the red armour works well; in-keeping with the style of such a model. I agree on the pose of this mini; very dramatic, I like this model allot.
Fluff for this hero sounds great and should tie in with the theme for the army, can't wait to see more of these guys. Keep up the good work

Not a lot of Ogre business these days, as my work schedule has escalated through Sept. I did start my conversion for a new Tyrant using the Golgfag model because Zeruk Fistbreaker is DEAD. He isn't painted yet so no picture there.
I have officially started my second army, Dark Elves!
My first elves (ever!) are done and ready to ride down my enemies and be annoying I'm planning on getting, building, and painting one box of minis every two weeks, and these lads just squeeked in the time limit. Next week will be full of a Bolt Thrower, Master, and a Death Hag (who just needs a touch-up) to get some leaders in there.
MAVV04 Oct 2014
The ogres march again! After a large build up of my DE, I started converting my two remaining leadbelchers into bolt thrower carrying heros I'll use some kind of fluff along the lines of a Redkin raiding party attack a HE sea vessel, with the remaining two salvaging their bolt throwers and eventually throwing their lot in the with DE, who were much more accommodating. Prepare for BS4 leadbelcher shooting
