Ogre MSU by Bad Dice

Ben Curry shared his thought process when building an Ogre MSU list in todays podcast on Bad Dice. Check it out.

Looks pretty good - I would say that it lacks a certain amount of shooting/magic capabilities though - also outside of the Tyrants and ironblaster there doesnt seem to be a good way of dealing with 1+ and 2+ armour saves (gorgers help but only if the target is killing blow-able).

I should add that I tend to run an ogre msu list myself - but its only successful when i include large amounts of chaffe (3 sabres and 4 units of ten gnoblars) since deployment is everything with armies that rely on manouverability to defeat their opponent (as msu ogres tends to)

I'm thinking of running a MSU build and also think a few cheap, small units of Gnoblars would be desirable as chump blockers and redirectors - still can't think what he would want with Gorgers and an almost complete lack of magic

Yeah having 7 chaffe drops has been incredibly useful for my MSU ogre list - since 9 times out of 10 I will out deploy my opponent.

I would agree with you but I also think its important to not spend too much on your units - none of my army list entries costs more than 250 points (And those are my 2 units of 5 ironguts with all the trimmings) even characters. In my opinion there is no place for a slaughtermaster in an MSU ogre list at 2k for example (or even 2.4k)

For my magic side of things I use dual firebellies, one with a scroll one with the hellheart - and the flaming attacks are great for knocking regeneration off things like hell pit aboms before your ironguts swing in combat, and the breath weapons are so useful!

I was more thinking along the lines of dual Firebellies or Firebelly/Butcher combo both rigged to sit in and support small units

It was exactly that high cost that was putting me off the idea of twin tyrants he was suggesting in his list that's three or four units really

I'd drop some Ogres for a couple 2x2 units of Leadies and maybe make at least one of the Ogre units into IG to help deal with high T and armor enemies. Otherwise this looks a lot like lists we were running towards the end of 7th ed with our old book just with a couple new toys!

Im surprised the list didnt have a few gnoblar drops - they are cheap and no panic.

I enjoy the podcast and the whole MSU focus they had - despite Im not a MSU kinda guy. The dual tyrant idea was interesting.

Its an interesting list but I think perhaps the Dual Tyrant thing is a bit of a lost cause because effectively they don't bring much to the table outside of leadership that another unit of Ironguts does.  I echo the statement about the Leadbelchers as outside of magic this list has no way of dealing with enemy chaff drops and re-directors and they can potentially undo the Ogre army.

No Ironguts to deal with tough/heavily armoured opponents is a concern for me and as much as I like them I don't think Gorgers are quite worth the points.

Great to see the MFC darts though, they're very effective in this sort of list and simply cannot be ignored.

Pretty cool list though seeing as he only did it on the fly.

I was also happy to hear about the scouting ME but did he want to take two units with scouts? I recall thats not allowed.

a unit of 4 ahw, scouting, ItP ME is great - the gw would be wasted I think as they will die before striking and the price is not wroth it.

Any list rocking 3x 3 MF would be good I think.

The tyrants could be useful I think with GW but the few attacks hitting on 3+ is just not enough wounds.
