Another new player has joined my club and so we're all trotting out our fluffy lists to break him in. This has got me thinking more about yhetees and a new idea (for me at least.) Iceshard + Aura of Frost
Obviously Aura is a situational rule at best and can't be relied on like Mark of Nurgle can to reduce incoming damage. But when the matchup is determined by the ogre player it can be the equivalent to the mark on WS 4 opponents, or Enchanted Blades on WS3 and WS7. But coupling this ability with Iceshard seems too good not to try at least once. Additionally if I get lucky and the fear test is failed, the opponent would need 7's to hit!
Anybody with more heavens experience than me ever try this?

I think Its an interesting synergy. It only has one problem... Yhettees suck! Or more accurately, Maneaters are simply better. I'd rather have a bunch of maneaters with a heavens slaughtermaster. It would simply do much better.

From Big Rulebook page 50 concerning to hit roll in close combat, last paragraph.
Sometimes modifiers apply to these rolls, but a natural dice score of 6 always hits and a natural dice score of 1 always misses.
Just pointing out Cool idea tho'! And even needing 6s to hit is rather bad.

Not to bring up the debate on the Aura rule but my group plays it as if you have a WS of 0 then you have no skill with a weapon whatsoever and cannot wield it. The paragraph you reference we apply when Miasma stacks with Mark of Nurgle or glittering scales or any other scenario where a 7+ is required to hit.

Oh I am fully aware of this, but like I said this is a list to break a noob in so I'm handicapping my army instead of my play.

Good point, I didn't really remember what the Aura rule did and just thought it would be just another -1 to hit penalty. Sorry 'bout that. Now that I checked what it does I do agree with you As I too would like to think that if your WS is 0, you simply are unable to swing at all. This of course has been argued enough so I hope I'm not turning this thread into another one..
To comment your idea: yes it sounds fun idea. Yehetees are a bit pricey and die easily, but if you have the models and want to have a laugh, why not?

Yhetees aren't too bad for a cheap swiftstriding unit. Gotta remember, we're pretty spoiled as Ogres - Yhetees in any other army would be ranked a lot higher!
Ogres - because who honestly likes 2 wound heroes?

Oh I agree wholeheartedly. My plan is that if they perform well on the the weekend I'll make a concerted effort to include them more often if only for fluff reasons. They'll go well with the Hunter on Stonehorn I've got waiting to assemble

Yhetees are missing exactly what they were missing in the last book, WS4 and Ld8. Though a ward save or some type of magical ranged attack wouldn't have gone amiss (if only to differentiate them from every thing else in the ogre book).

Yhetees aren't great, but in 8th they can be affected by gut magic. If you have a unit of 8 yhetees swinging 25 attacks at S6 I4 than your opponent is going to be crying.

But for only 6 pts more per model, you can have Maneaters doing the same thing, but better!
They lose out on the Aura, but get +1 WS, which is better. They can choose to take Swiftstride + another skill, or just take two great skills combinations. They have better Leadership, not to mention they actually have equipment options...
They are -1 Ini to Yhetees, but it's not a massive problem; they do also lose out on the Magic Attacks, but that's a fairly niche use for them anyway.

Well, that's what everyone really means when they say Yhetees aren't great - for any other army they'd be amazing, but here they're stood next to a superior unit.

Maneaters are better, however, you can only have 1 unit that has swiftstride and the banner of swiftness, so if you want two infantry blocks that are M7 swiftstride than you would use yhetees. They aren't outstanding, but I have used them and had success. I think their biggest advantage is the fact that everybody underestimates them.

My opponent did not underestimate them, I was allied with the new VC guy facing helfs and brets. Helf player new right away that the yhetees were no match for either his phoenix guard, 40 spearmen or swordmasters with banner of stupid brokenness especially. Add to the fact that after I moved them up (unit of 7) 20 peasant bowmen with flaming attacks put down two models in one phase through some epic rolling (long range, I was in a forest) Turn 2 I tried a combo charge with the yhetees and 8 bulls into the spearmen. The yhetees made it because that's what they can do well, make charges. The bulls failed and so the snowmen brawled for a -1 loss, stuck and got flanked by the swordmasters, the end
