Potentially Lethal's Fire Starters

original thread ↗

Hi all

This is to chart the progress of my Fire Starter clan.

I have only played 40K and only come back into that after a long, long break.

So Space Wolves and Blood angels for win... not really ;)

What's got me into Fantasy is the store challenge at my local GW shop.

Buy 600pts worth of Fantasy army in the first phase, then two phases of no more than £50 per month - all to be built and painted in an IronMan type challenge playing a few Triumph and Treachery games along the way.

My first purchase was:
1 Firebelly
1 Ironblaster
2 Mournfang Cavalry
6 Ogres

this amazingly works out at under 600pts :D

I will bulk this out with

6 Ogres
1 Butcher

then

6 Ogres
2 Mournfang Cavalry

I think this is a good enough start for the Tribe, but it will be built up as I go along into the formidable force it actually is :)

Will post some images of boxes later ;)

Well these are the boxes for the first part of the shop challenge, got to get these built, painted and played before the end of January, eeeeeek!

I'm such a slow hobbyist, will have to step up a gear for this one, luckily I didn't choose an all Gnoblar army ;)
Looking good! Great range for your first month to keep you interested painting-wise. And very sensible additions from that point onwards. Any consideration for some iron guts?

I was thinking of changing one of the Ogres for one Ironguts but don't know the benefits well enough yet to know if that's worthwhile - 6 out for 4 in

Will definitely be getting Ironguts when this challenge is over for the Tribe though
You know that saying 'every cloud has a silver lining'?

Just been signed off work for two weeks...

Perfect opportunity to get ahead with my December pledge and store challenge 😃👍

Got to sort a few things out today, but have clipped the Fenrisian Wolves off the sprues, all ready to be cleaned up and glued - will add pics later as it is too sunny to sit in the house ☀️

10 Wolfies ready to put together, coffee and lunch in town first, then start reading the rule book for Fantasy play and book a beginners table at the local GW store 😃

Constructive afternoon, not Ogre based but part of the December pledge completed
Decided to get two boxes of Ironguts rather than two more boxes of Ogres and use the box of Ogres as two small units, then have a large block of Ironguts with the Firebelly or Slaughtermaster in it, still not made my mind up on that one

and that Butcher/Slaughtermaster, really tempted to run a second Firebelly to fit the theme of the Tribe
Started on the six ogre bulls

Should finish them tomorrow, and hopefully start on the Mournfang

Would be pleased if I'd built all the models by the end of the week
As usual work gets in the way of what it pays for :)

Got a new commission for a website and that has taken up most of last night and today, the next two days are a bust as far as hobby is concerned, tutorial tomorrow and out for the day - family - on Sunday

So Monday here I come, might see if I can get a couple of bits cleaned up off the sprue and ready to glue on during the evenings but that may be as much as I can get done

I did get my first ever game of Fantasy in yesterday afternoon at the local GW shop, I took Skaven over High Elves and we went through a sample game where the Skaven lost a couple of Rat Ogres and the High Elves were decimated much to his chagrin and the rest of the shops utter delight :)
Nobody warned me how fiddly an Ironblaster is to make when a few whiskies have been downed.

Will post pics of WIP tomorrow as have stopped before I cut of anything important :)
Four Mournfang built

Ironblaster bits put together ready for spraying

Ogre bulls ready for spraying can be seen in the background of the post

Once sprayed that will be me actually completed my December challenge, might add fixing my three drop pods to the challenge list as a bonus challenge if I do get round to spraying the models, wet and cold, need it to at least be dry :(

The 4 mourn fang makes me jelly. I want another box to make it 4. They look substantially more badass that way

Got another box coming as a pressie later this month to make it six in total :D making two of three or three of two or a blob of six - much probabilities...
i think thats exactly what I'm going to do as well. Just pick up 2 boxes. As much as I need more ogres, they are too badass to pass up

Think this may class as my first Ogre Kingdoms army ;)

Looks like I should be able to base spray this lot today :)

Then I'm going to build up the battalion box that's sitting there waiting

Well that is the December challenge finished :)

Will get on with the battalion box first then see what else I want to do :)
Latest bit to the tribe is a Bruiser with BSB - it's not magnificent but built from spare parts from the Battalion box and Mournfang box - some Milliput to smooth out at the top of the banner :)

I dig the bsb! Keep em coming. Can't wait to see some painting! :)

Conor you will be sorely disappointed with my painting - I was never that good and I've just started getting back into this lark after 12 years absence, so I'm not holding out much hope for magnificent painting skills until 4 or 5 years down the road

Adding the fact that I've completed rebuilding my three drop pods that had a transit accident (I dropped them ;))

Almost finished building the Battalion box and from it I made 4 Leadbellies, 8 Ironguts, 3 Bulls and a custom Bruiser with BSB, just to add little bits to them to make them cooler
Just finished off building the Battalion box - so that is all of my December pledge finished plus the bonus pledge completed - will have to think on for next months pledge as well

Brother in law got me what could have potentially been a great present for Christmas - pre-built Tyrant, 4 Leadbelchers, 8 Ironguts, 4 Ogre Bulls and 42 Gnoblars - only problem? They have also been painted to a really good standard, but not the paint scheme I was going to run with :( not sure what to do with them really? Keep them as is and add some fluff to cover the discrepancies? Or strip and repaint? Fluff seems to be the easier way to go ;)

Looking forward to the next package to arrive :D
