The Eaters of the Dead

original thread ↗

It's official, the bro hole is prepared for maximum production (you thought I was going to say penetration didn't you). There are now 3 distinct stations which I'll discuss in greater detail below.

Project Cabinet and Paint Station.

Fabrication Station

Media Station

I'll be setting up the light box here permanently, I'll be adding a small PC/Laptop in the future. The laptop pictured... Not cutting it.

Supply Shelf

A lot of things I don't use all of the time, and some things that are just too big to be on the table constantly.

Fabrication Station - Closer Look

This is also used by my friend Derek when he's here.

Display Area

I'll be stacking two more shelves here to contain my Great Host of Decay.

2nd Display Area

Currently this has some items that I use regularly, corks and things mostly.

Drying Area

Paint Station - Closer Look

Project Cabinet - Closer Look

Inside I have plastic containers that contain various client projects, some are waiting on materials/models (Russia is being a particular pain ATM), some are waiting on deposits, etc. But yes, both the cabinet and the closet are both currently full, so commissions are closed until I catch up or get more full time hands on the projects.

In the foreseeable future I will likely be doing terrain, display boards, and commissions. I'll still be doing a few minis/armies here and there, but with the backlog of terrain I have on the books now I have enough to keep me busy well into 2015. I'll be going over the terrain in working on in a later post, now that I have the first run of the tables approved I'll be looking for feedback especially with regards to the various Chaos themed tables.

Loving the bro hole dude!  Wish I had a bigger house to have one of my own!  :D
Stay Frosty

Games Played (New book) = 20

W - 10  L - 9  D - 1

Best Win streak 6.  Current Win streak 0.
Monthly Paint challenges done = 9
Oh  :o Now that is what I call a hobby room. makes my mini desk covered in crud and paints stacked a mile high look a bit pathetic.....

This makes me want to sort out my work area; perhaps next month I will buy a new work station rather than more models (  :| yeh, right! that'll happen!)

As serious as things have gotten I've decided that Mon-Fri is for clients, the weekend however is for my own projects and experimentation. With that in mind I worked on some prototypes, I wanted to make something that I could do on my various army bases and also use for my terrain and display board.

The prototypes are made using cork, small stones and plaster. I'll be replacing the plaster with Super Sculpey for added durability on the working pieces.

Happy with it so far, let me know what you think.

And here's the prototype finished, as usual weathering makes all the difference. I'm confident now that with the Sculpey I'll have a solid set of bases for everything. Also, I think these will really help the models stand out, color wise it should mostly be making my dudes pop. I can't wait to paint up some Corrupters now.

All right guys, it's been a long time so let's play catch up...

First, my computer was struck by lightning. Power surge killed the thing, so until last week I was relegated to my phone or iPad for that sweet, sweet internet access. I found a decent machine on Craigslist, so I'm back for real real, not for play play.

The Commission Business:
I've had to temporarily close commissions, I'm backlogged with terrain and armies (including a HUGE Warriors army for a client in Norway). I'm also doing several tables worth of terrain for the upcoming RockWars GT in Little Rock, AR. I sold the Warriors army that I was playing earlier this year and have decided to start from scratch, I am now doing custom sculpted bases for all of my armies.

I've also decided to drop the snow on my bases, it covers up too many details so I've started working on the list I'm taking to the GT in September, a mono Nurgle Warriors list with the following models/units.

Sorcerer Lord
Exaalted BSB
Festus

17 Warriors w Halberds and FC, bunker for characters (5 wide).
10 Warhounds (2 units of 5)
5 Forsaken
8 Ogres w GW, Mus, and Std (2 units of 4).
2 Giants

The tournament uses a modified version of the Mersey Meltdown rules pack, so we get bonus points for taking specific softer units. Interestingly, Festus is considered soft. So, this list gets the full 10 point boost, I also feel pretty confident I can pull a minimum 2 wins, probably 3. And with the bonus plus soft scores, I should do all right overall.

I've already started working on a display board for the army, it will coincide with the Nurgle themed terrain I'm building for one of the tournament tables. The board is essentially an empire castle ruin, the floor of the ruin matches the bases I'm using for my Warriors (black and white checked tiles). Of course, there's a bit more to it than all that though. At the back of the board is a wall, covered in worn and weathered masonry and piled high with rotten timbers, these holding aloft creatures of Chaos (a Daemon Prince and Chaos Spawn).

The dominant feature of the wall though is the mural hanging at it's center, a painting by Pieter Bruegel, called the Triumph of Death.

The big news of course is that we found a new house, we're in the cleaning and packing stage now, but we'll be moving in two weeks. The house was built in 1929: has 2 bedrooms (with giant walk in closets), living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry, and a single bathroom. The dining room is going to be the play room for our son who is now 19 months old and just over 3 feet tall. Our family really needed the room to grow, so this house is perfect. It may sound small at 1300 feet and only a handful of rooms, the house occupies nearly an acre of land in the middle of town, with an unattached single car garage (also built in 1929) and the most recent addition to the property... an 1800 sq ft steel building I've named the Thunderhole.

This is the main work area, there are two 13x15 rooms in the back. One will be an office, the other is a restroom with a lot of storage space. But with regards to the main area...

The workspace is approximately 30x47 ft! I'll be setting up along the garage side, with more workstations along the opposite wall. I have a 12 x 8 bookshelf I'll be putting on the back/right wall. Then the center space will have some gaming tables, I'm still working out the exact quantity and dimensions for those, but there's other work to do right now.

Consider the rest of June pretty much a wash as far as hobby specific updates is concerned, but July will be updates with a vengeance. I've got a massive Warriors army to work on for an overseas client, as well as my own army (both for the upcoming tournament in September, and for the 2015 season). I've also got one of each flavor of elves to paint, plenty of terrain, etc. Soon, very soon... There will be hobby.

I've been unpacking, assembling, and making vroom vroom noises with a drill. My new workspace is really starting to take shape, and oh I am itching to get to work.

Still need to move the computer and set it up, but no internet connection at the house yet.

Still a lot more to do before I can get back to work, but it feels so good to finally have enough room to really spread out. More coming soon...
